After looking at what Atheists did(in USSR) AND ARE STILL DOING TO CHRISTIANS in the Soviet Union, China, North Korea and pretty much every single atheist countries in the World, are you seriously saying this? Tell me about ANY Atheist country that isn't killing and massacring believers. ANY. And remember, it has been just a few centuries since Atheism started raising and it has already done far more damage than every religions has ever done in the human history.
@samuelwaller49242 жыл бұрын
@@mathewjose4753 there will always be bad people doing bad thing to other people for bad reasons like race or beliefs, nothing will ever change that. The only difference is no one is deluded by religion. Also, you are 100% wrong on atheism causing more damage than religion. Name even one mass killing done "in the name of atheism", I can name hundreds done in the name of religion. Atheism isnt a single belief, it is a lack of belief in one specific part of life, ie religion. You are extremely prejudice and I hope you can see that and change your views.
@mathewjose47532 жыл бұрын
@@samuelwaller4924 Yes, many people do bad things in name of religion. But there is a difference between IN NAME of a Philosophical position and BECAUSE OF a Philosophical ideology. Can we both agree that Christianity doesn't support mass murder, r*pe, violent subjugation of minorities, etc.. Can we both agree that Christianity supports many good morals? So those people are doing those bad stuffs IN NAME of Christianity, not BECAUSE of Christianity. Infact, in reality, they're not even following their religion. Now let's look at Atheism. Yeah, there are many types of Atheism. I apologise for not making it clear which Atheism am I talking about, I was talking about Militant Atheism which is the type of Atheism followed by most "New" Atheists. Militant Atheism is the view that religions are outdated, causes more harm than good to the society, and should not exist anymore. This view, has caused MILLIONS of deaths and unfortunately, even today, so many people are systemically persecuted because of this. Do you want we to name mass murders CAUSED by Atheism? I remember being religious, too. I had this sense of being a puppet to some invisible deity who held the other end of the strings, and whose whimsical decisions were beyond my understanding. When I was able to shed religion over the course of about a year (also a choice I made on my own), that sense of puppet/puppetmaster disappeared. It was very liberating.

The one thing that was said that really sounds like me was the notion that despite the fact that everyone around me thinks different than me, I know I'm right. Yes, very arrogant of me. It's not that I am utterly certain that there is no god out there, it is that there is clearly not sufficient evidence to believe there is a god out there. Every once in a while I think about making a video that does not attack or debate a belief in god but rather dissects why most individuals believe in a god. I would talk about how it usually begins in early childhood with scary promises of heaven for belief, and hell for disbelief. Promises constantly reinforced by generally respected individuals who are well-meaning, but who have not analyzed the factors that formulated their own beliefs. And so they not only pass on the seed to another generation, but fertilize it with myth.

I've often thought about taking an in-depth look at the ways people in general will rationalize belief in god in daily life. Whether it has to do with missing the bus for a job interview "I guess God thinks it's not meant to be" (or what have you), losing your wallet, getting robbed, getting pregnant or whatever. Do these people really think they talk to and get responses from an omniscient being? Do they not realize that they're talking themselves through everything, but giving credit to something that is not apparently part of reality?

***** It is my understanding that there are many deists who are humanists. Upon your advice, I checked the wiki entry for humanism and it supports this entirely. It says: "Humanism is a philosophical and ethical stance that emphasizes the value and agency of human beings, individually and collectively, and generally prefers critical thinking and evidence (rationalism, empiricism) over established doctrine or faith (fideism)." Nothing about emphasizing the value of human beings or preferring critical thinking over faith would prevent a deist from being humanist. With that definition even a generalized theist who did not practice a religion or have faith could be a humanist. I am sure humanism and atheism often go hand in hand, but it is untrue that all humanists are atheist.

My dad would buy a newspaper every day and i would read the box scores to see how many hits my 3 favorite players , Willie Mays , Roberto Clemente and Pete Rose had . One day in the newspaper , i saw the 4 step evolution illustration of ape to man and i thought , well it must probably be true , and didn't question it . Then a few years later Jesus saved me and i became a born again Christian and my eyes were opened , and i realized that Jesus is the truth and evolution is the biggest lie ever forced on us . I suspect God could be an idea and belief people invented to cope with life because it can ease stress and fear and answer the unknown. People in the past were much more ignorant/uneducated than we are in this day and age. So when the witnessed feats on nature and science they were astounded and/or scared. The concept of God eased and explained that for them. God is all powerful and controls things in ways we don't understand. People need an explanation for things in life and for the difficult and important questions that people don't know the answers to people believe that God is all knowing. And that's enough to ease their anxiety caused by their ignorance. People want to feel loved. God loves you unconditionally and will forgive you for anything. People need to feel safe and protected. God is powerful and will protect you. People need to feel a purpose in their life. God has a plan for you. People need to special and valuable. You are made in God's image. People need explanation for good and bad things in life. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. People are afraid to die but they want an escape from the pain in life. So they believe they go to heaven forever when they die. People need their lives to improve. So they pray to God hoping and thinking God will help them. Religion is the structure of worship that takes advantage of this belief and gives people a sense of belonging and controls people with outrageous rules.

MY 5 GOOD REASONS TO PROMOTE ATHEISM : 1. THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS "THE KINGDOM OF SLAVERY" , If you don't worship them they will not score their points of imperialism so they can have their little paradise . 2. IF WE PROMOTE ATHEISM BY RESPONDING TO SOMEBODY WHO SAYS "THANK GOD" with " OH I DON'T ... I BELIEVE IN DEMOCRACY " people will experience much less suffering . I DO NOT WORSHIP A LORD , KING , OR GOD BECAUSE I BELIEVE IN PROMOTING A GOVERNMENT BY THE PEOPLE FOR THE PEOPLE ...NOT A KINGDOM. 3. IF YOU DO NOT WORSHIP GOD OF THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN YOU CAN FOCUS ON OTHER INTERESTS AND WIN KNOWLEDGE ABOUT A SPECIFIC AREA THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN. 4. By giving thanks and praise to your friends , family members, and fellow workers people will become more motivated and more united in support of freedom . 5. Say No to worshiping a Lord, King, or God in order to prevent violent crime, war, divorce , injury and incredible daily harm caused to people so the imperialists may earn their points of imperialism . Let's win for freedom ! Let's end the suffering caused by organized religion... thank you for your awesome video Hemant Mehta .

Yeah, I would change out the idea of promoting atheism with promoting reason and critical thinking. I mean I didn't deconvert because a friend said "Hey, Seth, you should be an atheist like me. I feel theists need that first step and that is, to question if their god exists. I became an atheist by coming across a video DarkMatter2525 and watching and that's the first time I ever really questioned the existence of god. By promoting atheism (DarkMatter making videos) it led me to question which led me to be an atheist, if DarkMatter didn't promote atheism and didn't make videos I wouldn't have taken that first step and questioned and I'd probably be a theist right now. I think promoting atheism is well worth it.

Recently, I was sitting with my dad, watching some show, I think it was Monster Quest or something. Anyways, they mentioned evolution, the missing link thing and all that, and my dad just kinda gave this incredulous laugh. Shocked, I asked him, "What, you don't believe in evolution?" "Nope," he said. "But it's been proven." Again, he laughed. "It's a THEORY, Tracey." I then went on to explain the difference between what he thought the word "theory" means, and the actual scientific definition. Then, I explained the scientific method to him, and then I began telling him about the mountains of evidence there is for evolution, and that, not only does it explain so much, we can actually predict certain patterns now, thanks to our knowledge from the theory of evolution. I told him how inspiring that was to me, I told him what I thought, and I told him that I am an atheist. "Man," he said, when I was done with all my ranting. "You're smart." "Thanks." "A lot smarter than me." "Don't say that." He shrugged. "It's true. I mean, I don't believe it, but I just- I was raised differently. That's all I can say." "That doesn't mean you can't still learn," I argued. But he didn't want to talk about it anymore. That conversation taught me that it's very important to make sure that people know what's true. Science should not be held in the same regard as a belief system based off of nothing. It should not be something that people carelessly choose to reject because it's been equated with its antithesis. Knowledge is more valuable than faith in this world, but so many people still don't "believe" that. The thing is, though, truth and logic are actually fulfilling in their way. You don't have to surrender your critical thinking to have that fulfillment, either.

I've got a thought or two to share on this... Not all, but the vast majority of "KZbin atheists" think of themselves as part of a movement. Atheism isn't a movement though. It's just the conclusion that you don't believe in any god. This movement isn't just atheistic, it's anti-theistic (meaning it's an active opposition to belief in the untestable, religion & the supernatural). I've seen no example of a person involved in this movement that isn't actively opposed to religion. We positively assert that religion is a bad idea & a harmful practice. That's a claim I make myself & happily accept the burden of proof. The reason I make this point is because I'm sure there are other atheists out there who simply don't want to be part of this argument. There's a fine line between anti-theism & bigotry. I've tripped over it in my past as have many of the key speakers in the movement including Dawkins, Harris, Thunderf00t, TheAmazingAtheist. etc. I'm happy to tread on that thin ice because I believe it's the right thing to do, but I don't expect that from any other atheist. Closeted atheists are often badgered by anti-theists (movement atheists) because they call themselves agnostics. The "atheist community" is often quick to point out that their definition of the word is skewed. That's fair enough, but maybe they just don't want to get roped into this debate. Agnostic sounds softer. I want to see more atheists out of the closet & more anti-theists define themselves as what they truly are. I want to see this because I think there would be far more affirmed atheists if they didn't feel scared of associating with our somewhat belligerent debating style & because I think if there is a movement at all, it needs an affirmative assertion to rally behind. Most of us are more than just atheists, we're anti-theists. A burden of proof is on us & it's an easy burden to bear.

It's important to promote atheism is precisely the same way it is to promote mental health awareness. Religion is a mental problem by definition, simply because it is the practice of something very irrational. People who have imaginary friends but aren't members of a church (of any religion) get sectioned. The only difference is the trivial fact that certain beliefs are labelled as "religion". All you religious trolls out there, go ahead and try to dispute me if you dare! >:D

Just wanted to let you know I've been enjoying the videos. I'm what you might call a "new born athiest", and after much reading, thought, pondering, and simply asking "what do you REALLY believe" I've broken the shackles of my Catholic upbringing and feel FREE. I still have a lot to learn and the "dealing with death" issue is a hard hurdle to jump., but life (THIS life) has a whole new meaning for me.

The immediate thing I think of when someone asks how does religion harm people is this. When people refuse to give their sick children medical treatment because they are going to cure the child with the power of prayer and faith healing. If faith healing worked why are the hospitals always so full? I mean medical bills can get ridiculously expensive, if faith healing worked why would we need hospitals?

Firstly, the Bible is actually a collection of 66 books. And as a Christian, I do read plenty more than just the Bible. I currently have a whole list of literature I plan to read in my life. It's far too much to get to all of it in this life, but I will try. My list (actually lists) range from Christianity, other religions, economics, history, politics, foreign languages (particularly Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine Greek), and numerous useful life skills. Also, I'm an Aerospace Engineering major so I also have a section dedicated to aerospace literature, mathematics, chemistry, physics, computer programming, Computer Aided Design, and a few other related topics. I divide all this into 3 categories: 1) grace, faith, and Religion, 2) Aerospace Engineering, 3) Personal Improvement. Praying, going to church, reading the Bible, reading Bible-related literature, reading literature about and from other religions, and learning Biblical languages (as well as Qur'anic Arabic for the Qur'an) are all part of just one section.

+Wow 117 I enjoy learning and do everything to bring God glory. Knowledge of other religions helps me to be more effective in sharing the gospel of Christ to a fallen world. Knowledge of economics helps me to be a better steward of what God has given me. Knowledge of history makes me more informed about how things came to be the way they are now. Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat past mistakes. Knowledge of the politics that govern this nation allows me to vote more wisely on matters because I better understand the issues and their consequences. Knowledge of foreign languages allows me to understand God's message in Scripture in the original languages (some things are always lost in translation). Also, learning languages such as Arabic allows me to be a more effective witness to Muslims and more credible because I will be able to read the Qur'an in Arabic. More languages = more opportunities to share the gospel. Aerospace Engineering, and related skill sets, allow me to earn an income to live in this world and give towards ministries that progress the Kingdom. All in all, do everything for the Lord. I'm immersed in things that help me in this way. I avoid the sins of this world and learn from the mistakes of others in this world.

This is my opinion, i dont care how much hate i get. This is what a think is true and dont get mad try to understand it Im an Atheist for a simple reason, humans were at the beggining of the world just like other animals. They started to become alot more intelligent, they made a society and discoveries. 1 day somebody asked: "What is point of life? If my life is a struggle and hard to live i can just suicide." People probably were arguing about that when one day somebody was like: "HOW ABOUT WE MAKE A REASON TO LIVE" and boom Christianity if you are bad you go to hell and if you are good you go to heaven. If you just look at all religions they really shouldnt exist :/

"All tremble at violence; all fear death. Putting oneself in the place of another, one should not kill nor cause another to kill." This was said by Buddah. There's no religion attached to it. It's basically the Golden Rule in another form. Point is, religion is not required for human well-being. Not only that, but we are a social species that has evolved to be most successful when helping one another, so morality is essentially in our DNA.

Story- yesterday I was working with a couple of friends and one person who I will called Charles (even though that isn't his name) in school, preparing for a competition (we are really behind this year because we are starting to see each others political sides and get annoyed at each other for reasons like this). So we were in there and the discussion went to gays and when I asked Charles why gays shouldn't get rights, he said, "because God-" I stopped him and said, "I'm an atheist, give me a reason that gays shouldn't get rights that doesn't involve God." Charles paled and just blurted, out of reasons, "sticks don't mix" now, everytime I see Charles, I say, "sticks don't mix."We aren't even going to talk about what he said when I asked his why straightness was the proper thing, or the fact that Charles refused to discuss with me about lesbians.But yeah guys, apparently all gays and lesbians alike can't live cause "sticks don't mix"

Can you make a video that would help my friends see the faults and stupidity in religion ? Because all my friends are Christians b/c my school and the people running my school promote it, and my friends' parents kept shoveling it down their throats and I just wish so badly for them to think for themselves and not just listen to their parents. They also apposed gay marriage b/c their straight parents talk them it's not the Christian way. This would really help me and others out!

Thanks for another interesting video. You may, in some cases, be missing a step or two in the recovery from religion process. In my case, and probably for many others', quitting religion was like quitting smoking or alcohol. Some people can go cold turkey, but most need to taper off. I quit the Catholic church once I was 18, and no longer subject to parental authority. I then went on to the most liberal Christian sect, and one that appealed to an educationally oriented person, unitarianism/universalism [the first flavor is intellectual with hardly any theological content and the second is intellectual spiritualism]. As I matured, I became more skeptical and secularist, until I reached the stage of agnosticism. This isn't the place to rehash the debate about atheism vs agnosticism, but it seems that for some people, both liberal religion and agnosticism are necessary steps to achieve atheism.

I believe I had a mystical experience when under 10 years old. I realized there is no god. I was on my grandparents farm and realized nature is all there is. Nothing else. Throughout my life I have meditated and studied many religions only out of mild interest and to keep an open mind. I found the peace and joy of meditation and contemplation filled my needs. By studying the Egyptian religion of the Pharos, Greek ,Roman religions ,as well as some modern religions I found that I was not missing out on life experiences. I think people should be able to believe in what serves them well.And if religions suits the personalities of certain people good for them. I believe life experiences is all that matters and when life is over that is the end.
