I'm interested. All I ever hear about is fry bread and tacos with chilli. It's good but I'd like to learn of other dishes. I think though most of what they came up with was back in old days with what the government gave them. The only other dish I learned of that was created from these items was something made from flour and coffee I think. A thick sludgy mixture made from fried flour and I'm not sure I coffee was fried also and then water added or coffee drink made and mixed in with flour.

Seeing the oxtail soup almost made me tear up... My family is also from Shanghai, China, and we've always cooked this soup during winter. Sometimes we will also top it with milk or heavy cream. The Shanghainese Borscht is a great example of how western and eastern culinary cultures mixed and evolved into something new. Thank Beryl for spreading this awesome dish!

This Lentil soup my favorite.. My Lebanese mother made same soup. However, my mom always pureed it before serving, using a food mill, and we added lemon juice to our bowl to our taste. She would have loved the hand blender I use today. I lost my mom 24 years ago. You should try Lebanese style Green Lentil and Swiss Chard soup. As I get older, I feel my mom is beside me when I cook her recipes. Thank you for all your lovely videos and your amazing contributors.

Just for reference, cassava is also known in US as manioc -- this is a common item to find in the South American shelves in supermarkets, at least in New England. Recipes written in Portuguese use the terms interchangeably, some areas of Brazil call it cassava and some areas call it "mandioca", and some places like the state of São Paulo have a big overlap where both words are used.

If you're ever doing another soup video, I would highly recommend the Friesian peasoup called jetta or snert(this is also the Dutch terminology) In my opinion one of the best soups there is and over here it's eaten like a complete meal because it's a very rich soup that basically has everything in it what a well rounded meal would have. My grandmother's recipe is the best there is to me, I have looked but not found anything better or similar on the internet. I would like to send you the recipe, but I'm gonna have to to find out where to submit. Only found your channel recently and I love it! Have already tried a few different recipes! I first came across that African "granat"/"ground nut" recipe for that soup in the Los Angeles Times some 35 years ago (though they called it a stew, not a soup). I've been making it 2 - 3 times/year ever since! I add more veg and definitely a chile pepper or two as well, minced up, because that's what the recipe I have calls for. The nice thing about using lentils or peanuts, is that when either them is served with rice (brown is more nutricious) it makes a complete protein. That way you can get by with much less meat, dairy or fish to get the protein your body needs.

Wow, the Brazilian soup must be delicious! You know, this texture of a broth mixed with flour reminded me of another Brazilian dish called "pirão", that is a fish broth thickened with cassava flour and usually served with seafood, rice and fish. But we don't consider it a soup, that's so crazy! Also, the Bantan looks like such a nice idea! I thought it'd taste kinda greasy because of the cooked bones, but you didn't even mentioned the soup being oily or anything... I'm honestly surprised! And curious to try it 🥰

Was there something green that was added to the tomatoes and onions in the ground peanut sauce because it looks green, but there was no mention of any green herbs in the recipe description layout

I made the Chinese soup when it first came out almost 2 years ago? It was amazing and I put the cabbage on my shopping list to make it again 🙂

Que bom que não é a canja de galinha e sim uma receita diferente e regional. O Brasil é tão grande e diverso que mostrar receitas regionais serve até mesmo pra nós brasileiros conhecer.

Great to see the Iraqi chap in Scotland. Lentil soup is a Scottish staple - though made with a ham bone - so it's great to see his take on it. I'll have a go this weekend.
