Have started tracking my money again. I first started 25 years ago, renewed my interest after going to my bank for a loan and really not knowing how much I was spending on each area. This time I am doing it in a spread sheet. I have divided the grocery into the food groups and there are other groups related to food eg eating out. I can now see that around 1/3 of my grocery bill is for fruit and vegetables. Other sections include transport, phone and clothing, etc. Make the sections suited to your own lifestyle. I started the spread sheet 12 October 2019.

Nice. Tried to save here. Didn't use electric lights beyond the few minutes it took to get ready for sleep after returning. Took bath in water bucket or sponge bathed. Didn't use phone. If had coffee out , it was a meal replacement. Tried to make sure of having one warm healthy meal a day. If possible, bought discount mens clothes because female clothes cost double or more, wore shoes with holes, tried to get up early to walk, and did manage to save 50-75Percent of after-tax after work-expenses, didn't go to doctor unless so ill/injured could not function and ...if I travelled home or did stop over for a small vacation to recoup, I made sure the plane ticket value was more than covered by price differential of bulk purchases of beans and things that were expensive in the country i lived away from home but every two to three years an emergency , some weird combination of circumstances would wipe all out. So finally after a couple decades or so of trying, I got exhausted...and after obvious criminal incidents (possibly these happened before when those weird situation combos occurred but i had not made the connection with criminals) against my family. One has to wonder if we weren't mistaken for somebody else as it seemed like a vendetta with multiple breakins and vandalism..even going so far as animals were injured. Very sick and sad. Now it is into decade three of this...and finally, have given up, but it is no win for the vandals...if you drop a truck on a caterpiller and you destroy it...no shame to the caterpillar never to become a butterfly and hardly a win...and if after crushing it with the truck and it still lives, sort of , and its reactions are that of a defective...and the truck thrower thinks it is somehow proving the catepillar is defective....it is the truck thrower who is a fool, game over...no matter how many times the catepillar us tested..the truck thrower lost...it should not have been a game or character/strength test but since the truck thrower played it, they lost....it is not a win for a muscular body builder to try to rough up old women or children, for shame...you lost a game that should not have been a game...and as for the finances, criminality and ignorance, ignoring what is happening to your fellow community members...and making excuses about inferiority when they have been crippled (took more than a couple decades, near three decades, not even a couple rounds of cancer, or losses from radiation/earthquake did it, nor disappointments and hardships with life, no it took a truck in the form of bizarre activity and disruption of communications when downed for me to give up into bad habits...to hell with trying for any future, it will only be vandalised away. Have not completely given up...still no phone...but i would at least like a proper meal and sleeping place since trying to save to go back to uni or help mither with property or anything else will simply see it wasted and vandalised (new grammar form?) away. Society pay attention to the causes you contribute to. Individuals must take responsibility but consider things do not happen in a vacuum. Don't assume so negatively and care and help your neighbors, don't just ignore and make up excuses that somehow they are inferior and have no right to a cup of tea...you have no f**king idea what they have been through.

Here is how I control my spending: On a piece of paper, I write down every forthcoming expense that I have for each month, and the amount it will cost. I list rent, auto insurance, car note, utilities, phone, and credit card bills. I try to use my credit cards only when I have to, and to ensure that I don't use them, I put them in a jar for safekeeping and leave them at home. And what I am going to do each shopping trip is to make a list of what I need and buy only those items. Also, I try to use cash as much as possible. No overspending, either. That list I post on my refrigerator is enough to remind me. And I remember to keep some spending money for myself. I don't go clothes shopping very much, except for must-haves like underwear and socks. I buy one shirt and one pair of pants every couple of months. And I keep driving to a minimum. I still drive to and from work, to the market whenever I need to, and to see my girlfriend on the weekends. And no going out for lunch either - I make my lunch the evening before and take it to work with me the next day. Those trips to the fast-food and carry-out places were really killing my wallet!

Think of a credit card as a loan.Don’t use cash to purchase items. Use your credit card but only if you have the money to pay it off immediately. If you don’t have the money in your checking account then don’t swipe the credit card

What they say in this video is a big misconception and the reason why so many people are in debt. Instead of teaching others how to use a credit card properly, people who don’t understand just say “oh credit cards are bad”
@carultch5 жыл бұрын
The difference is lack of discipline with use of credit cards. Credit cards make your spending virtual, so you don't think about every dollar you spend. If you use it correctly, you will benefit from the perks, at the expense of both other customers of the credit card company, and other consumers who use cash. Credit card companies offer the perks as a loss leader, in hopes that they can pounce on you the instant you either cannot pay off your bill in full, at the end of the month, or neglect to pay it on time. Credit card companies take a piece of the action of every transaction. But you don't directly see this. The merchants who take their cards pay these fees. What this really means, is that the merchants have to mark up goods to cover this cost. You pay cash, you are paying the merchant the full amount, without them having to cover the interchange fee for credit cards.

Interest rate is the number one enemy...if the world don't apply interest rate...people will live in harmony without worried about debt anymore...
@carultch5 жыл бұрын
If there were no interest, no companies would ever lend money. And you wouldn't find free bank accounts anywhere that don't charge a monthly subscription, or take a piece of the action of every transaction. The banks pay their bills because of interest as a return on their investment of the money they lend. The banks lend money in hopes to make a profit. Banks would loose money on the average no-interest loan, because lending involves risk that the borrower cannot afford to pay it back.

I have two cards. 1 one is strictly for a monthly cellphone bill from verizon that saves me about 5 dollars each month, i will pay the bill anyway so took the card and it is only used on the phone bill. 2 my other card is for gas only and things my job needs me to pick up on the way which of course i get reimbursed and get it sent to my bank account which i pay right away. I seen early on that if i spend my card on other things i had a tendency to procrastinate about how I accumulated so much, even though i have the money to pay off, i feel subconsciously better if i leave it at that just to make my cards work as little and as regular as possible without me having to question myself. I know many of my friends that spend the card and are in debt because its easy to spend money that you do not see taken out of your bank account and thus harder to justify paying off, its a mental game the credit card companies end up winning many many times, its a good thing there are a few that do not get taken advantage of though.

Responsible people know how to use credit cards properly. Credit cards are not bad: they are just tools. Does cash give you cash back? Does cash give you free airline flights? Does cash give you free hotel stays? Be smart. Be responsible. Learn how to use credit cards wisely and you’ll end up with more money in your pocket than just using cash. Also if used properly they will help quickly improve your credit score. Credit cards are no different than alcohol or cars: if you abuse them they will burn you, but if you use them wisely you will get a lot more enjoyment out of life with them.

This will be different. Lol. I love credit cards. BUT always pay balance and never paid interest. If I pay debit card or cash I get nothing. With credit cards I get points. :)

Even if you pay your credit card s off at the end of the month are still being charged interest daily.

R N, the clock is ticking, but once you pay the balance in-full, it falls back to “same as cash”. If your credit card offers a cash-back percentage, then you’re able to make a few hundred dollars annually. It’s worked for me.

Investing: yeah, it's not like we can all do it. First of all, unless you're in the industry or studying for money-related jobs, you don't get taught how it works, how to get into it wisely, etc..

It's super easy to do it now; check out M1 Finance. I had an account set up in less than 10 minutes. You link it to your bank and start with $100. Look here on YT for videos about it.

Stay single! Best way to save money, because your someone will always spend, and you'll spend. Kids are expensive too. The only people who need credit card are people who don't need one. Example. Most credit cards will refund your trip paid with that card in case that airline goes bankrupt etc. Visa cards they don't have that extension. So you end up losing money in situation.
