The way I plan on taking care of myself today is that I’ve been taking a rest from the things I have planned today to build up energy and motivation to do those things (which are drawing some of my OCs that I didn’t get to draw yesterday, reading a couple good nonfiction books, and watching some shows either because it relates back to one of my special interests (and yes, I am autistic) or for the nostalgia factor). Then, I’m going to use that motivation in bursts throughout the afternoon and evening so that I don’t waste all of it on one thing. I’m a perfectionist, and so sometimes when I draw my inner critic will often speak its mind until I find whatever I am drawing to be perfect or good enough, and that takes a lot of energy out of me, so that’s why I’m taking breaks in between my hobby participation sessions.

I sure could use a confidence boost. Not the best storyteller. I am a listener, but maybe only because I tumble on my words and get discouraged when I need to talk. Self care is no issue. If someone loves me for my money, power and looks, that isn’t genuine love. While some good qualities can reinforce attraction, ultimately love should be unconditional-accepting me as I am, flaws included. To those insecure about their looks: *you can look handsome or gorgeous at young age but it will fade away once you become old.* This world is temporary, and chasing power, money, or physical appearance is a waste of time. After you pass away from this world, these things lose all meaning. Instead, focus on overcoming life's challenges and strive to be the best version of yourself.
@Psych2go2 ай бұрын
That’s such a profound and meaningful perspective. Genuine love goes beyond surface-level qualities like money, power, or looks-it’s about accepting and loving someone for who they truly are, including their flaws. You’re right that physical beauty and material success are fleeting, and focusing on what truly matters, like personal growth and overcoming life’s challenges, has lasting value. What are some ways you’ve found to shift focus from external qualities to inner growth and becoming the best version of yourself? I’d love to hear more!
@PrawilnaMordka2 ай бұрын
I highly recommend not to love anyone unconditionally. Unconditional love could lead you to a lot of suffering and even to your doom. We definitely should cut off from toxic people instead of staying with them no matter what and let them drag us down with them. The only exception is when you are parent. When you decided to have kids it is your duty to love them unconditionally and support them until they become resourceful and independent.

I've noticed that many of the people who I know who are considered confident, such as the girls in my Yr 7 class weren't usually plain or simply confident. The girls in my Yr 7 class who were called confident by one of my ex friends can now be better classified as somewhat cocky or arrogant in retrospect, instead of confident, even show offs. Confidence gets used too broadly and indiscriminately when more suitable adjectives are more applicable, such as cocky which is seldom used. I never thought the biggest clique in my Yr 7 class that was made up of seven girls were ever cool, or any of the girls in my grade for that matter.

I realised for myself that first I needed to care about some fundamental needs and slowly climb up Maslow's pyramide of needs, enought to be able to work and care about myself at all. Joy and self love followed after that. Before that it has been mostly desperate and demotivating attempts to do something for myself. Been a long and sometimes desperate path, but now it finally seems to be getting better also for myself. All I am trying to say is, don't fall into despair if it isn't working for some times. Take your time, don't force it and try never to loose faith into life. Sounds cliche but which I could had comprehended that earlier.
@Psych2go2 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience-it’s incredibly powerful and relatable. It’s true that sometimes we need to start with the basics, like taking care of our fundamental needs, before we can work on joy, self-love, or higher goals. Climbing Maslow’s hierarchy is a gradual process, and it’s so important to be patient with ourselves along the way. Your reminder not to fall into despair when things don’t go as planned is comforting. It really shows that personal growth takes time, and it’s okay to take things step by step. How did you keep yourself motivated during those tough times when it felt like progress was slow? Your insights could really help others who might be in a similar place.
@milenkodukic89422 ай бұрын
Wouldn't say I was really motivated at that time, rather just had to endure it for a while. For me it were various supports of either my closest family and friends and various doctors that kept me afloat. Finding the energy, courage and trust for betterment was a rather long and oftentimes just pessimistic process. I would say that finding a support and self-help group was quite the turning point for me. It was the place where I truely felt understood and also got to experience that I am not alone in this. It was also the place where after a long time I felt like I was of some value to the people around me, as my insights and honesty helped them as much as theirs helped me. I also got to learn how to detect some of my issues, acknowledge and ultimately openly talk about them. From there on it has been going upwards for me and I could even scoop some kind of self esteem out of it, to help trust and motivate myself that things can better, that I can talk about it and that ultimately I have some control over it. Now I just hope that I can manifest that mindset and not fall back into the old ones at the next bigger crisis.
