I have been doing the same thing. Mine is long and dark, so to avoid the “grey line,” my hair dresser adds a few baby high lights when I go for a trim and suggested a shampoo and conditioner for silver hair. It’s helped. I can attest to Collagen being beneficial. It goes in my morning coffee and I don’t even notice it. 😊

@@sophh1585 Yes,grey does not automatically equal "old"! My naturally silver hair (started greying in high school) that i FINALLY let grow out is just beautiful and i get way more compliments on my natural colour than i did from any colour i had put on my hair. I'll never dye my hair again.

I started taking collagen powder on your recommendation. I didn't notice a difference until I had been doing it for two months but wow. EVEN hair loss stoped. My stylist was amazing at the transformation. You saved my hair. I have added Tati's Halo hair booster and that has made it even better. Finally, a prewash hair mask called "elasticizer" from Phillip Kingsley is amazing. I took i to my mother's beach house a couple of weeks ago and all of my daughters, I have four and my two nieces were instant converts. You really notice a difference in bounce after you use it. Finally, I am using a Kerastase leave in night conditioner. My hair looks 20 years younger than it did four. months ago. !!!!

I am part of a community of thousands of women who have decided to embrace their natural gray hair and it is extremely freeing. Gray hair does not make someone look older. It is actually just our society that perpetuates that idea. My skin actually looks more vibrant and younger with my natural gray hair than when I was trying to dye it to cover the gray. In my personal opinion, when you had the gray hair against your skin, I thought your skin looked amazing. It is completely society perpetuating that gray hair equals old. Young women go gray all the time but we don’t know that because young women have been taught to dye their hair. It is completely a personal choice and I am not against hair dye in the slightest! I am just against society making women feel that their natural selves are lacking in someway.

I would say that it looks amazing on many women but it does make some women look older. I look much older with gray hair so I prefer to color it. To each his/her own🌺

Agree! I think most women don't want to look 'dated' or older than they are but there is a beauty in accepting the age one is. I am 58 & don't care about looking 10 or 20 years younger. What is the benefit? I want to look like who I am: a healthy & active woman who has lived 5 decades. Also, the thinning hair can be an issue re:hormones & aging but in my case, I have always had fine hair, it hereditary & I accept that. I am on low-dose thyroid meds, so I'm glad I'm not chasing a goal of thicker hair with supplements. I just keep my hair trimmed above my shoulders regularly.

When I quit smothering my scalp in chemicals, and finally embraced my gray, my scalp flourished, my receding hairline started sprouting new, baby hairs and my entire head of hair thickened up considerably. It could breathe again.

I quit coloring 3 years ago and it was the best decision I made. My hair is so thick, healthy and shiny with zero products or styling. My hair feels like it did when I was a teenager before I started messing with it. I do have a few streaks of gray but I think it looks pretty. My husband has no complaints. Also...your natural color always matches your skin tone.

I had to stop coloring my hair because it made my hair fall out like crazy. The last time, I lost at least half my hair. Most of it eventually grew back, but even with monoxidil, it isn't what it was.

Going gray left me with thick hair as all the breakage grew back healthier and I constantly find baby hairs. One of the many positives of going gray is that not only do I save money, I save time and the air drying has brought new luster which is hard for gray to achieve. Now experimenting with growing longer after having a Bob. Each month I ask my husband if I have achieved "witchdom" yet! LOL

I took a leap ant cut my hair above my shoulders (somewhat of a chin area length bob). I think that was hands down the best thing I've done to look more youthful. I think I look much more stylish with shorter hair.

I so agree about hair color! I’ve been doing my own hair since I was a teen and I still do it by myself, and get compliments all the time. When I was young I used to love going really blonde and then one day I grew it out a bit and I was told it looked really good. So since then I feel I look best with dirty blonde with ashy blonde highlights, nothing too extreme or brassy, and I’m very happy with it.

This is a great video! One thing I have found to add shine to my hair is argan oil. Just put a little in your palm and rub throughout your hair. It won't weigh it down and looks great.

I ditched the hair color 3 years ago! The absolute best decision ever it's so liberating not having to color every 3 weeks. However, my silver sparkles require purple shampoo like Purelogy as regular maintenance. My favorite hair mask is Kerastase.

Kerastase is the bomb! Totally transformed my hair from straw to silky. I loved the masque so much that I ended up ordering one of their shampoos, a serum that you can leave on overnight...and you don't have to rinse it out in the morning if you don't feel the need to. I also love their thermal protector. It might be a little more pricey than products I've used, but now I don't have to keep buying so many different things only to use one time, then find out they don't work for me. In the long run, I think it will be more cost effective, plus just a little bit goes a long way and I have very thick hair.

Thank goodness, I was given an advanced colorist with Wela she told me auburn would look best with my skin tone. She is so right, and mixes 4 red colors. I use sulfate free shampoo and conditioner from Dramatics salon in nyc. I also use Kerastase shampoo & conditioner for color treated hair. I use a leave in before I blow dry and Olivia Garden styling brushes. Also, please gals only wash your hair once a week. Over washing is striping the natural oils and can dry it out. Yes, I can testify to this! ⬆️ My hairstylist also advised using shampoo just once a week on my fine, highlighted hair. Also recommended trying an updo towards the end of that week if it feels uncomfortably oily. My hair is now much less brittle, even after this blazing hot summer! I would've likely never tried that without pro advice.

I disagree about silver hair making a person look older. After you hit 50 and, most especially, 60, wearing a very dark brown even if it's your previous natural color, ages a person greatly. Wearing your own natural silver, or salt & pepper is far more flattering. If you wear your natural color, it brightens your face and works better with your skin. And, the bonus is wearing silver in a modern cut means lots of men compliment you. I didn't anticipate the extra attention. I get compliments on my silver color all of the time, and no one ever complimented my natural color. Truth.

I am almost 75 and my natural color is medium brown. During quarantine a lot of gray came in and I looked so much older! I have a young looking hair style, to the collarbone, and my stylist keeps me at light to medium brown. One thing the gray does, though, is gives me natural highlights!! They come in as kind of a blondish/brown color. She has told me that if I just let all the natural gray come in, it would definitely age me and would be very coarse and wavy. If I wanted to have it look shiny and smooth, I would have to go see her, anyway! Some people have coloring that can handle natural gray, I just don't 😊

I wash my hair in rainwater. I use castille soap and VO5 hair dressing. No other products in my hair, but I do take vitamins for hair skin and nails. My hair got MUCH thicker when I got all the conditioner buildup out of it! It also grew much faster, and I haven't had split ends or hairfall in six months.

Hi Erin, Thank you for this video. I'm 64 and my hair is quite long (think Jane Seymour). It is natural honey blonde that has gotten a little darker as I have gotten older. I don't color it. My hair still looks blonde and any gray that is there blends in with the blonde. I use Johnson's Baby shampoo (life long) and discovered a wonderful conditioner on Amazon. It is called Paula's Choice Smooth Finish Conditioner. I tried it because it is fragrance free and perfumes bother me. This conditioner has made my hair super shiny. If I could attach a picture I would, but I just wanted to let you know about this wonderful conditioner. Sometimes with my shampoo I will dilute it with water and either put a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil in it or jojoba oil then shake it up and use. It is a moisturizing shampoo that you can use daily if you want to. Have a great week! xoxo, Karen

For some reason i dont know why but my hair is quiet thick and long. Even my Drs are baffled . My mum had chemo and only lost a little hair. Really hard to believe but very true. My sister through chemo lost all her hair. But she said she was to sick to care. Sad. But shes back to pretty good health considering. I put coconut oil on my scalp. I also use flaxseed oil. I do a deep cleanse and condtion once a week. . I get trims every 9 weeks but with covid havent been able to.. i ve been slack with all self care atm. Its really important for you ladies to look after yourselves. I love Erins videos. I really am so happy i came across her.

An important step after using a clarifying shampoo is to use a deep conditioner that, optimally, you can keep on for 20 minutes, then rinse with cool water. I started doing this about six months ago consistently and the difference in my hair is remarkable.

Nipping down here to the comments section mid-video...Erin, your point on consulting our doctors is an important one! Case in point, ashwaganda is a potent herb. I used it while under the care of a practicioner for a season and benefited greatly. Fast-forward to a later time, I added ashwaganda on my own for the day and had a terrible bout of insomnia. While we are each our own best health advocate, it is good practice to assemble a compatible team to move forward safely!

I love Argon Magic shampoo and conditioner. With the conditioner, so it’s not too heavy, I put one plus a little more squirts in a plastic glass (I the shower) and add water to almost to the top and shake it up good. Then I pour it over my head and leave it on for 2 minutes while I brush my teeth. Next I rinse my hair really well. Next I towel dry before using my hair dryer and styling my hair. This leaves my hair soft and light and not heavy or greasy feeling in a day. Been doing it this way for 50+ years.

Hi Erin, I started taking Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth as part of a cleanse and a side effect was a major improvement in my skin, nails and especially my hair. I've been taking 2 teaspoons of DE every day for 2 months. I've added it to my coffee to easily incorporate it into my diet and it has worked wonders. The texture of my hair had been dry and would fall off due to issues with stress, menopause and my thyroid. I could never do anything with my hair which you accurately mention is such a huge part of a woman's identity. After 2 months, it's fuller, healthier and the breakage is reduced significantly. Discovered that DE is an ingredient used in Hair/Skin/Nails supplements because it's silica. Even better, it has 0 calories and a large bag (avg 5lbs) costs between $10-$20. I have a mix of c3 and c4 curls. I use joico damage control conditioner and I use big sexy hair conditioner. I only shampoo 1 time a week and condition 2xs a day. And I use the sexy hair split end serum.

A really great "clean" conditioner that makes my hair so soft is Carina Organics from Vancouver. They have scent-free options, as well as natural scents such as lavender. Another great brand is Oneka from Quebec. Also wonderful! They have a natural cedar and sage version of their conditioner. Aveda is now adding synthetic perfume, so I steer away from it.

I haven’t colored my hair in a year, initially in preparation for what I knew would be a period of unemployment, but which has stretched much longer due to the pandemic. My heavy damage has been growing out and far less grey than I expected had been growing in. My hairstylist said the grey on top blends in with my natural highlights and the patch on the front can be hidden if necessary with a creative part or makeup (mascara or eyeshadow). As experiments go, this one has been pretty positive.

I'm letting the silver come in my blonde hair so now it's a kind of beigey colour I call greige. I can't tell you how many times I've been complimented on it. It might make me look older but stuff it, it is so much easier on the health and condition of my hair, not to mention, my wallet.

Thanks for saying that about grey. If you want to be gray, then fine, it's lower maintenance, but some people look way older with it. Personally something that light, even platinum washes me out . I don't really think you need to join a movement to go grey. Just do what you want, but I can't even wear a grey shirt much less grey hair.

Be warned, biotin can also cause big yeast infections. I never get them and I had the worst one after taking it for a couple of days.

Hi Erin. I recently found your channel & I'm addicted!! I was so surprised to hear about our similarities. I too, love make up,fashion, etc. I wanted to share a few things with you about some of my favorites. I have color treated hair(I use henna) which means I stay away from harsh shampoos. Alot of shampoos seem to pull out the color or leave my hair very brassy. So, I normally use Davines Alchemic Shampoo (copper). I also use Minu shampoo/conditioner from Davines. And usually I use Davines hair mask once a wk. I recently tried Perfect Shine clarifying scalp scrub by Nature Lab. I absolutely love it.

Your hair looked so good with that first "red" it was more like strawberry blonde, it made your face look so soft, I think you went into it with a bias already in your mind. I challenge you to go back and look at it with an open mind, your right the platinum and light blonde, but the light gray looked very pretty on you.

I have been through chemotherapy twice in a five year period. Hi, I love the hair color app. The way you find out what your best shade is, is not by the veins in your arms... but by your eye color...you have grey-blue eyes and so ash colors are best for you I have Brown /copper pupils, so no matter what I do or how I bleach it ...always shines red from the root! I can bleach the heck out of it...My natural hair is GOLD!/Red...BTW... I think you look good with some red in your face! Also, when you are younger blonde is great ...when you get older (Personally the lighter your hair the more aging it is. Nothing screams I am an old person like gray hair...Even in the times of Cleopatra women figured out how to color hair with Beets carrots... roots and berries...ps. I was a hairdresser for 30 years.

I think the best hair color is the one you are born with. I became sensitive, very sensitive and broke out and itchy with hair color. I was not liking gray roots at all. Looks aging. I started using Madison Reed last year because it is without PPD and resorcinol which are 2 big serious allergies in dyes. I have absolutely no problem and the argon oil in it really helps the condition of my hair. I'm 57 and totally not ready to go gray. It's a personal choice but for me the Madison Reed is very good. I think asking our husbands if they like the gray is like asking them if our butts are too big. LOL Most are not going to say yes so they don't hurt our feelings. For me the cost of a salon trip was 85.00 every 6 weeks. Now it's only 25.00 with Madison Reed. I'm happy.

I do a natural mask myself. Olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil and your favorite conditioner. Mix all of it and apply it with a brush. I use a regular painter brush (bought it at Home Depot for $1.12). Apply it to roots and ends. That's it. Work wonders !! 👍💕
