Thanks for the information. I am 28 years old. I have been living with a diagnosis of acetabular dysplasia 4 years ago. This disease is accompanied by osteoarthritis in me. Unfortunately, I did not get a positive result after long physical treatments. One of the exercises that can relieve my pain was to relieve m.iliopsoas. Apart from that, I relieved the pain by losing weight, giving up long walks, wearing light heels and using NSAIDs. I know that hip replacement will be the inevitable end, but if you are reading this comment, can you please share video for actebular dysplasia patients? Thank you Doctor🙏🏻💕
@AleFabbriProjects2 жыл бұрын
I am 48 and I have dysplasia on both sides. I live with this problem since 15 years already and I also ought to work and dance in the meantime... I also get relief from iliopsoas stretch excactly like you. Flexion has became painful, with the passing of time, even if I always have been flexible. Since I have been a dancer for a very long time, and I am still a dance teacher, this pain has been a quiet destabilizing problem. I just want to say, move gently and keep moving in the most gently way. I am trying to avoid hip replacement, and at the moment I can still tolerate the pain. What is important is to avoid excess of work and weight (never carry weights or walk for too long, take pauses...) For the rest, your body will tell you what is best, with the help of a physiothrapist, of course. Did you try moving in water? In summer it helps me a lot.

In general, as long as the pain is only while doing them and as long as it stops as soon as you stop the movement, it should be okay, but always make sure you are cleared by your doctor first.

Hello Dr Jo! I just Subscribed to you channel. I had Arthritis diagnosed by X-Ray in 2013. I am a Classical Pilates Mat person and therefore do mobilizing and strengthening work for my hips daily! My biggest problem is the discomfort when walking, and any exercise that loads the joint really aggravates the condition, for example balancing on one leg. If I only do a few repetitions on each leg say for 5 second hold it does not seem to aggravate the joints. Also, the chronic stiffness in my low back/hips is a problem, for example when doing a Pilates Roll Up the most affected hip does not co-operate and that leg lifts off the mat. I have been thinking about using a rubber band around my legs and doing abduction exercises! Hope you see this note and perhaps respond with thanks.
@AskDoctorJo3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subscribing. Resistance bands are great for strengthening, and might be worth trying if you are cleared by your doctor.
@colinhenry24873 жыл бұрын
Dr Jo: The Doctor is not trained in strengthening and conditioning the hips and refer you to a Physiotherapist. Unless the Therapist has a special interest in Arthritis of the hips, and how to effectively deal with it, they all offer the same exercises, few are Pro-Active. Been researching it for several years,

Never had an MRI or a scan, had very little help off doctors here in UK. I physio exercise I been given but it's the rate outwards that hurts and groin pain and if I walk or stand too much its hurts a lot. Can you advise?

Dr Jo, I was wondering if I could get your insight into a question. 4 years ago, I somehow strained my hip flexor while doing a simple runner's stretch after a recreational ballet class. Two PTs diagnosed it as a hip flexor strain and I rested and did exercises. The area is still very, very tight, and pops/hurts quite a bit when I dance. Can the aftereffects of a strain linger this long, or should I start looking into more serious issues at this point (maybe labrum issues)? As always, thank you for your wonderful videos and sharing your knowledge!
@AskDoctorJo4 жыл бұрын
You're welcome. Strains don't normally last that long. It's probably worth checking in with your doctor to get some imaging done.
