One with the right skills and tools could likely build a functional one if they want. As far as guns go, there are a lot less real ones to pick at. Especially an alt universe game like Fallout, it might have been adopted. Most guns getting turned down are more will of the brass than anything else. Plenty of bad designs have been adopted by nations due to various factors. All it takes is one good kickback in the right place and a sub-par gun becomes adopted. Even still, the Jackhammer was ultra-rare in Fallout, same with the G11. Hell, FO is so different they didn't even adopt the AR-15 as the US standard infantry rifle in favor of something that looks like a G-3. What´s important to mention is that the Jackhammer was far less far along in development, and while all of the other examples had companies working on them, the Jackhammer was designed and worked on by a single man. The Jackhammer was still in early prototyping stage, and was for example held together with Allen head screws in some places, which definitely would have been changed for a full scale production model. Along with this, the design would have been changed to save weight and ease manufacture. So yeah, I kinda wish they´d mentioned that, as it sorta redeems the design, as it didn´t have all the kinks ironed out yet.

As a long time gamer turned to gun enthusiast, I'm actually impressed by the selection in this video. The WA-2000 and the Thompson were my two favorite video game guns of all time, and when I became a gun owner and looked into buying either of them, my heart sank. Like the video showed, the WA-2000 starts around the $21K-$28K price range. As for the Thompson, an actual proper one with full-auto capability is gonna START at around $44K in bad condition, and ones in great condition can get as high as $145K. I found it amazing you can buy a semi-auto .50BMG like the M82 for less than half the price of a WA-2000, and the M82 and similar .50BMG semi-autos are gonna run you about $9K if you get the heavy af steel ones, or about $12K for the light weight carbon fiber models out there (they sell about 4 different variations at my local gun shop). Even those are way outside of a reasonable price range. So what've I bought? Well, I built my own 5.56x45mm AR-15 (no kit, just pure Frankenrifle) of about a $1,600 value for about $900 (building your own and buying parts during sales is the way to go), and my current project is an Enfield No.4 Mk1* that some fool sporterized (thank God they didn't chop the barrel or scallop the receiver). Bought it for $200, and have been restoring it to factory-spec, but also outfitted it with a 4-14x44mm first focal plane scope, and have made my own custom hand loaded ammo, and this thing is shooting 1,000 yards now with what I'd call "combat accuracy," all under $700 total. Video games got me into guns, and I couldn't be happier, even if a ton of iconic video game guns will never be mine. Was pretty funny that games had me convinced Glocks are awesome, but first time I held one, I know my face immediately turned to disgust; the grip is one of the worst grips I've ever held. Ended up favoring the Sig P226 - those things are sa-weet! Sig P365 is also a great pistol. While I'm upset with Springfield Armory, I also can't deny their Springfield XD is also a pleasure to shoot. My favorite handgun so far, though has been my .40S&W Astra A-100, which I've never once seen in any game or movie. Basically a heavy, all-steel version of the Sig P226. The steel frame can let you ramp up the .40S&W to some spicy handloads, significantly more powerful than .45ACP and about the same speed as 9mm, but with a big ol' 180gn bullet. Not as high cap as 9mm, as the gun is 13+1, but damn, looks classy af, is pin-point accurate, and has enough power to drop a black bear, making it a great defensive auto loader to have on your hip hunting in the mountains. Anyway, great video. I could talk both guns and games for days, lol!

They skipped over the most interesting thing about the G11 - it has a 3-rouind burst fire mode that was designed to be capable of sending three bullets downrange before the user feels any recoil. This burst was so fast that if the first shot was a little off target, at least one round would hit and an on-target shot had a high chance of putting all three rounds in the target almost all at once. They never figured out how to properly deal with the heat buildup of a mostly closed firing mechanism, but some of the system designs survived and might be used in future weapons. For the record, I first encountered this gun in Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain. I had a large book called Modern Small Arms on my coffee table at the time, and it was pretty cool to use an exotic gun like this in the game and then read about in a book on real guns. Also, the G3 in that game was borderline OP, but was super fun to use.

The G11 was almost adopted. It made it through endurance trials, troop trials, and was greenlit. Really the thing that stopped it was the fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification of Germany. Less need for defense, money needed for reunification infrastructure and projects, and also surplus AK-74s from East Germany, and the adoption was cancelled.

About the OICW, it also bears worth mentioning that even the XM25 has been criticized by it's weight and bulk for it's rather niche application; airburst grenades really are something that sounds really cool but hard to apply in practice.

XM290 - aka, "Whoops we made a war crime." For those not aware a part of the Geneva Conventions is no explosive bullets, grenades have a minimum size they need to be to count as a grenade. The one on this weapon did not qualify. So it was an explosive bullet, and yeah you could program it to explode above a target. You could also program it to explode IN the target.

Generally, in this context, the weapon's existence is basically no different than a theory. We have physical examples, but the guns themselves were at best used for a brief blip in time. If a gun isn't available for military or commercial use and exists only as a handful of extant firearms that can't (or won't) be fired, then it's no different than if they only existed as a theoretical design.

I first came across the G11 in Jagged Alliance 2, where it's this unique almost-SciFi rifle with a burst mode that kind of goes _srrrppp_ and makes enemies's heads explode in gore. Accurately presented in-game as being fiendishly hard to repair or find the right ammunition for.

The Jackhammer doesnt get too much attention nowadays compared to the other entries since the AA12 and Saiga 12 are pretty much the go-to "fully automatic drum mag shotgun" for msot videogames and even then it has to compete with the USAS-12 too. It looks really cool/futuristic but sometimes too much to feel grounded like the G11, OICW or WA2000 which still show up every now and then, guess it's popular streak ran out just like with the FMG-9.
