2 of these 5 issues are purely that you bought a basically base model that doesn’t have features a higher model in the class do have. If Toyota included everything in the low models they’d have nothing to up sell.
@ravensfootball522 жыл бұрын
When talking about things like leather seats, larger screen, electronics and what not I understand. You don’t expect those on lower trims. However when you restrict access to the bed by designing it with a flaw where you then have to shell out another 400 for a part that they have then it’s greedy and annoying. That button they added on the side of the bed is such a simple gimmick that it’s silly it’s not offered on all models. I loved the look of the truck, interior, but there are some major oversights they made and it’s unacceptable for that asking price. I can’t even get color match body parts on a limited. Hope they fix these with a minor tweak next year
@Skidaddl2 жыл бұрын
@@ravensfootball52 I agree. I own an '07 Tundra Limited that I bought new. Have really been waiting for this new truck. There are many great things about it, but with some of the oversights (for example, you need to go all the way up to Platinum for power tilt and telescopic steering wheel - 15 years later!!), I may keep waiting. This might sound picky, but as a builder/renovator, that missing corner on the rear step bumper is almost a deal killer for me. It's INSANE that their only solution is a pop out step for people like me who can be jumping in and out of the box multiple times a day.

Great video as usual Jon. I got my 2022 Platinum Edition last week and love the truck however a couple of quality issues already. The blue ambient lighting on the passenger door is not working, and the driver side Platinum badge is lifting off at the leading and trailing edges. The badge issue I have heard about but the door LED lighting failure I have not seen yet. It is very discouraging to have these quality issues especially after my truck was held 60 days on a QC hold at the port or railhead take your pick. Hopefully no other surprises to come. The dealer has me scheduled on the 31st for the warranty work and I'll try to add any comments with what they find. Makes me nervous I'm not going to lie; I've owned more than 20 new vehicles in my day, and this is the first time I've had any quality issues of any kind. I only have the Twin Turbo V6, but everything that I've read and watched about it is that it's basically designed to improve horsepower and torque. The gas mileage is the same as straight gasoline because of that. It also results in a loss of the rear underseat storage. Most of the people who have driven it like it quite a bit, but dislike the loss of that storage. They also enjoy the off the line power, but I haven't really had a lack of power off the line, in fact most of the time I feel like I have a little too much power off the line since my wife is pregnant and it is a bit of a rough start for her. (And no this isn't my first high horsepower vehicle, I'm coming from a 2020 Camaro 6.2L V8 with 510 HP (had some mods) 24 MPG city and 33 MPG hwy (93 octane))

I work for the plant and have issues. Great truck but bed rattling and other noises annoy me. The center console rattles horrendously and I have window tint bubbles on one window. But these aren’t long term issues. Keep in mind the launch of this program was a bit rushed and without good resources due to COVId and material shortages. Our materials group has had a hard time keeping up. Once stability is found you will see a lot of these issues go away. When you rush a process you risk quality issues. Just count yourself lucky it wasn’t a turbo issue which have been reported.

For the window seal issue, mine actually gets pulled by the rear windows when I roll them up so I can't roll them down (being fixed when parts arrive, hopefully tomorrow), the air vents are another annoyance of mine because you can't really adjust the air to go up or down, basically just side to side because it only moves the center fin, I do have a limited so I have the tailgate button, the best I can assume is that it's more of a luxury feature like GMCs little center top cutout that is mostly only on Denali trim, I would also prefer my "mustache" be the same as my actual grill color (it's like a premium gray with sparkles in it) instead of brushed aluminum as it would look much better (still trying to get an answer from my dealership if they are capable of painting it to color match), I think the chrome on the doors being the same gray sparkle would also look better as well. I am overall very happy with the truck, those are just some minor annoyances. I think they did an excellent job with the power train as I got an average of 24.2 mpg going between Jacksonville, FL and Cape Canaveral, FL. My normal hwy average is 23.7 mpg and my normal city is 18.7 mpg (consist over each tank for 4000 miles).

Jon, do you think the issues with the engine that I keep reading about regarding the Tundra will carry over to the Sequoia? I put a deposit down for the TRD Pro and now I'm having second thoughts when I read that owners of the new Tundra are having to wait long periods of time to have their trucks repaired. I keep thinking I'll pull the deposit and re-consider in a few years once they've ironed out all the kinks. It looks like you have a wire coming out of your console, could that be the source or the rattle because it's probably causing the lid to not shut properly. Nice truck Jon

The console is designed with a gap between the tray and the rest of the console that is the perfect height for their cable package that they sell for $73 (Southeast Toyota). I imagine they did this because of the all the USB ports inside the console.

I have similar issues with my Limited, but the worst for me is the wind noise. Is not too bad, but for 60K you would expect a quietest cabin. I still love the truck.
@ronpearce71982 жыл бұрын
I agree with your issues. For $60,000+ you should not have these types of issues. This appears for the most part to be quality control issues period. It is really too bad, because Toyota has always been known for quality vehicles, built to last for years and 100,000 miles with few issues. I am seeing and hearing many of your same sentiments from a variety of social media platforms. Their turbo issues, which you have not experienced, and the way Toyota has handled and responded to customers has been ridiculous and not like Toyota at all. My personal theory is, they have pulled all their good engineers to address the coming EV age. That has left new inexperienced engineers, people who have no clue on how a truck to sport utility is actually used to design these. Plus aerodynamics and trying to squeeze every last ounce of mpg out of them. A lot of people today buy trucks and never, ever use them as intended. I have driven trucks since 1974, towed, camped, boated, hauled stuff, etc. I understand exactly where you are coming from. I have already seen people trading in their 2022’s and going back to Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Dodge. The industry is hurting right now, as a lot of areas of our economy but, that should be even more incentive for the manufacturers to build the best quality vehicle, especially for the prices they are asking. Hope Toyota is listening to your channel and other social media venues and will act upon it.

Good things to point out. Just got a 1794. Overwhelming options. Really nice truck. Just wish the salesperson knew more about it. I asked if it had overhead display, they said yes. I asked if it had the iforce max engine they said yes. It didn’t have either one. Love the truck but very disappointed that it didn’t have two of the things I really wanted. And was told it did. So, don’t just ask, check it good before buying for what you really want.

I’m sorry I can’t do that Jesse… Hey Toyota… help… I can do these things Jesse. OmG!!! It’s the second option Siri. 3. The back end sits low. I raise it up with the air ride buttons and after 25-30 mph it goes back Reopen

I like my 2022 tundra. And I see little reason to have many features. My sr5 has a button on the key fob button. I’m 6’2” and can get in the truck easily. Who the hell doesn’t use the tire to step up. Step sides were always silly. My only concern is that the tow hooks aren’t available if you need them. I do agree with the weather stripping issue. I did get many premium features which maybe helped get the truck put together better.

Agree on point 5. Had the FoRd ecopoop engine, it catastrophically failed on me at 65k, and had to be replaced. Went with a V8 Tundra that has been pretty flawless, so yeah, #5 no V8 is a deal killer, oh, and had update our fleet this year. Toyota lost out on 20 trucks due to lack of a V8. GM and Dodge are LOVING that did that right now.

1) aggressive safety features such as rear passenger seatbelt alarm. And if you turn off the bumper sensors or rear cross traffic alert it stays lit up on the gauge cluster. 2) no design feature to get into the bed easier or not even leaving the bumper edges to do so. That accessory step should be standard on all trims from factory. 3) every time I go into the truck it asks my cellphone to acknowledge or ignore Toyota truck and if I allow it access it asks for the pin code… very annoying Toyota should get rid of the pin code and driver profiles… or at least let you turn it off and leave it off 4) no front recovery hooks 5) I have the rear passenger window moulding weather stripping problem with it popping out and a knocking noise in rear passenger door every time I open and close it… not the end of the world but annoying.

My 21 Taco TRD Sport was like this. Poor fit and finish. Poor quality materials and quality control. I ended up getting out of the truck before 15,000 miles. Never had a truck with more rattles in my life. Easily marked up plastics. Scratches on interior materials would seemingly appear out of no where despite being careful. Weather stripping would rattle around the windows if they were down and the glass in the door would rattle if it wasn’t fully open or closed. Very harsh P to R, P to D, or R to D clunk. Had the dash replaced from warping. Steering wheel and cowl replacement from being out of round. Would rub on each other. Leaf springs started squeaking after the first oil change. Rotors resurfaced and new pads due to vibrations. To be honest it kinda left a sour taste. I looked at the Tundras but it really didn’t seem like it would be any better plus having seen the common issues people are having I passed. In a new Titan now and I couldn’t be more pleased. Hopefully you and everybody else get your issues and complaints resolved and Toyota can learn from it.

My 5 dislikes. 1. It's too expensive. 2. It costs too much. 3. Too pricey. 4. Out of reach for at least this buyer. 5. The amount of money needed to purchase this is too damn high. That out of the way about the only issue I care about that you showed off is bed access. All the rest are just a matter of aesthetics. As far as the engine goes, once upon a time I was bothered by no V8 but these days I actually wish it had a diesel. It is really, really hard to tamp down desire for a duramax or an ecodiesel given their phenomenal fuel efficiency. 35mpg in a half-ton driving 65mph? Yes, please. I also wonder what the 9 speaker sound system is like in these. People want to talk about the JBL, but what's the 9 speaker system like?
