My favorite memory is listening to Gretchen Goes to Nebraska on the way home from New Smyrna Beach south of Daytona . My 3 year old son was a little sun burnt and sacked out on my lap . We loaded a bunch of surfers and their boards in the back of my truck and my son thought that was the coolest thing ever . The music ...the great day at the beach and my son asleep on my lap was almost magical . I'll never forget that...32 years ago . PK

Man, I can tell you have the same passion for music and the ocean that I have. I just recently moved to New Smyrna Beach and coincidentally I just got through saying King's X this evening in Mount dora, florida. They were amazing. I've been trying to see these guys for 30 plus years and finally got my chance. I'm also from Texas originally in love 3-piece Hard Rock / blues bands, whether it's Stevie ray, ZZ Top in the old days, cream, or Robin trower, Johnny winter. And of course then there's Kings x, the hardest working group of awesome guys in rock and roll. When they play Goldilocks this evening there wasn't a dry eye in the entire auditorium. I'm afraid they are getting close to the end but I know they do need the money and they love what they do so they'll probably surprised us all and play until they're 80s. By the way, those kind of memories that you mentioned are what I love. I've got tons of those memories and I could die today and say that I've had enough fun and great times in my life the last 10 lifetimes. It doesn't mean I haven't had some tough and difficult times as well, divorce, addiction, other issues, but I always kept persevering and like King Zach's never gave up. Thank you for sharing that it really made my night after watching them play

Many years ago, I saw an ad in the back of a dirt bike magazine for a band named King's X. Never heard of them but thought, 'they must dig bikes, I'll check them out.' Go to the record store, they've never heard of them but, take my number and say they'll figure it out. This is pre-internet... About a week later, they call me. They can order it. Go back, order the cassette, pre-paid I think almost $9 and,,,, wait. Over two weeks later, I go to pick it up. SOOO, worth the wait! For the next 10 years, there was KX playing in my truck every time I sat down in it. Still a big fan but, I've never seen them live. Need to fix that before I run out of time. I saw a recent video of them in Atlanta. Ty had on a Fox shirt, so I guess he still keeps up with moto. How about you Mr Todd? Do you know who Jett Lawrence is? Anyhow, a lot has changed over the years. Young players have it MADE! This video and thousands like it put the songs under your fingers right now and without a lot of effort. King's X: one of the few bands to give fans their money's worth each gig. 3 1/2 minute tracks turn into 5-6 minutes of musical bedlam. Yeah, I'm overstating it. However I can't stress enough seeing them live is worth the price of admission. A few tracks off of Mr Bulbous: Fish Bowl Man, Marshmallow Field, and Smudge. I actually came late on King's X. I have their first 4 studios and live record on Metal Blade. I stopped there, but I do listen to their respective solo projects like Poundhound and KXM featuring Doug and Ty's work. I don't recall owning Jerry's stuff but I've seen the occasional CD (as in his first solo effort).

YES!!!! I’ve always said X was grunge before the genre existed. I was handed a copy of “Out Of The Silent Planet” on cassette in 1987. I wore that tape out in my Pontiac Fiero, speakers in the headrest. I couldn’t get it loud enough! Been a huge fan ever since! Growing up a Rush and Triumph (and Zebra) fan, I love a great power trio! Ty’s chords are as complex and interesting as Lifeson. Jerry’s drumming is super solid and Dug…there are not enough words in the English language! Killer bass tones and his soulful, emotive voice…

Great picks for songs. You did a great job of mixing up the styles to show how diverse Ty's riffs are. Thanks for the post! Loved it

5:25 this riff is one of the few things that I actually learned how to play on the guitar before I gave up on it entirely and I think makes for such a great riff when you want to impress others, but the surprise here is that the riff is not actually that challenging to play once you learn what the trick is... "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" to the max

Absolutely great review. Dogman has one of the most crushingly solid grooves from start to finish.

Enjoyed your vid and I absolutely love King's X. I have seen them far more often than any...ANY other band. Again, enjoyed the video and you did a nice job on the covering of those riffs.

Glad to see the love, I discovered King's in the early 90's and was blown away by their songwriting. Even now after all these decades later when I listen to their songs I still get that sense of awe. And both Ty and Doug always have the most gorgeous sounds. My favorite band by far.

One of the keys to Ty Tabor’s unique sound was his use of the early ‘80’s Elite Strats with the TBX and MDX circuits (the latter being the active midrange boost Clapton still uses in his Strats). The pickups had dummy coils in them and and those guitars had an interesting push button method of pickup selection.
@ericolson3265 жыл бұрын
Not exactly the same as Clapton MDX -- the Elite had half as much gain and the boost was focused on a lower frequency -- but as my father used to say, "close enough for government work". 😁

Leon, you've got some solid taste in music, friendo. Dogman was my first King's X song I heard, that main riff will never leave my head.

Well played, you guys. King's X is so awesome and yet underrated. Maybe you could do something about Killing Joke or Living Colour?

Grew up in my home town of Springfield Missouri. Watched these guys at all the local venues back in the day. They were all amazing even back in high school! Originally band was called The Edge. Great bunch of guys! Bravo!!!

I lived in Pearl Mississippi(Ty Tabor's hometown) back in the mid-late 90's. As a musician myself, I never met Ty but I played with people who knew him. I once played at a coffee shop that his uncle owned at that time. Great job Leon.

I always dig it when Leon starts playing Dogman when demoing gear. :) Goldilox and Freedom (the Ear Candy version) are two of my favourite songs full-stop, not just from the King's X repertoire. Amazing vocal harmonies as well as killer riffs.

I hung with Gerry and his son while they were recording over at John DeServios' place one day it was just when he was getting back into playing again after his accident /injury. He is the nicest guy I have met. Really genuine, great soul. Great drummer too. His son has a great, smokey, bluesy voice too. Also a really great person. So is JD.

One of the greatest bands... PERIOD. Even though they never have "broken" the "top twenty" or received any substantial radio play. They're so different and so humble, a great bunch of guys, seen them 7 times and believe me it's not even enough!!!👍 KING'S X RULE.

Ah...ah.. what about "it's love"?...mind you ,it disappeared in a flash once folks got the album and heard "legal kill" and " Mr. Wilson" but .....for a WAY too brief moment, the did chart!
