IMO the shimmer effects sounds like heaven. and the non-linnear reverb sounds like a lo-fi slapback delay or has a lo-fi vibe. Great video as always!

Brilliant Leon, thank you! I love my AX8, but the H9 was one of the few "pedals" I kept from my previous (Pre-AX8) setup. I kept my Boss DD-500 as well, a great delay tool. One of the everlong issues with the H9, of course, is with all the various algorithms there is seemingly an infinite number of possible sound configurations...which is where you come in to clear away the clutter to get a great sound! This requires much patience and talent which you have, thanks again!

Eventide has the golden algorithms. I'd rank the pitch shifters in my H9 even higher than Axe Fx. Lesser pitch shifters mess with the timbre in undesirable ways. Eventide's pitch shifters sound so musical that the listener will think they are listening to a synth.

I used to read forum discussions where Italo was being berated for the lack of GUI within H series Eventides. Though I agreed with both sides, the VSIG editor opened access to 100% of the capabilities. I began to customize my front panel, building my own custom access control. The functions are where the real wizardry takes place, however. And that’s where it gets complex. Every algo is viewable. Everything can be reverse engineered. There are numerous mathematic formulas within a patch, if you’ve seen scripting, C++, or other computer code languages, it’s very similar. At that time I was deep in 3D CAD, building characters and animating them. My new renderer was procedural, so textures and lighting needed to be programmed. Houdini & mental ray are advanced level. My brain sore, patience thin, I declared F this. Just want to play. So today, 7:30am, I had no reason to get out of bed, but this video. First time I get to see an H9 GUI. You often demo the Axe products. These are interfaces that someone had to build at the code level, determine which controls you had access to, and align them and define control limits. I see what people were ranting about. I see the allure of an H9. I get it. Axe are so user friendly. However, inside a single processor H series box are about 1000 presets built by or for studio engineers recording pros. You’ll get a mix of tools, helpers, subtle twists on sonics, all the way to crazy shifters, slathered in diffusion. The full gambit. I have a different view of each preset you show. A completely different set of access controls, limit definitions, and results vary. With the line level processors, parallel processing is much more common, so a Dry track in conjunction with the Wet result must be blended, similar to the Mix knob. To round out the units, samplers were included in early 500 series variations. 3500, 4500, 7500 meant the unit included a sampler. Then they went dual processor. Orville, 8000 included a 500 series unit on side A. As time continued, Eventide H series fell out of favor, except for engineers, and a handful of hard core programmers unintimidated by scripting. I often try to identify the appropriate person, someone who likes the hard road, and I’ve always suspected you of all people would enjoy an open architecture. Even if you don’t like the code level access, you’re a powerful enough user to ‘break’ the unit, to coin a phrase. An open invitation, you’re always welcome here as a guest. I am one of a family of 4, with 3 kids of my own who are grown and out of college, one recently admitted into rehab for heroin addiction. A multifaceted experience, risk free. I’ve seen all sides, I own a construction company, specializing in medical flooring. Never made that ‘Outside’ video, but I will because I’m proud of my work as ‘just some dude’. Approaching 50... I know your Dad is somewhere in range of us, my older brothers were influential in this chosen path, but we always enjoyed music. I could’ve kept it simple, but I would have struggled to do so. Thanks for your continued contributions to the YT community, by all means get that Tripleplay routing into the Axe... you’re going to love what you’re hearing, and let the sounds guide your hands, let your soul do the talking. -Jim O’Donnell

Thanks for this Jim, and I hope your son is getting the best care available. I'm very keen to get hands on experience with an H series and V-Sig as it seems like the possibilities are seemingly endless. A question - do you know how the undulator algorithm actually works? I've been trying to reverse engineer it in the Axe and while I can get close there's a few parameters which mistify me.
@Eventual4205 жыл бұрын

Definitely a great pedal but with only being able to use one effect at a time (other than those that have multiple in one which isn't many unfortunately) it's just too limiting especially for the price with the Max being $700. Other options out there can do so many different things at once for less money.

Great video. As much as youre willing to show off on the h9, id love to see. Ive had this unit for a number of years now and its just a tweakers delight. Not exactly what im into really, but it can really set a soundscape and a mood. I use mine mainly as a delay. The one before the amp. I think it gets away with these type of things because theres just so much tweakability. I also love the fact that you can set up a chopping kind of tremolo with an envelope. Always looking for new ideas. Thanks.

In my opinion the Harpeggiator is the killer app for the H9. All the other effects are nice enough, but I don't know of another (non-Eventide) pedal that does what the Harpeggiator does with the same level of depth and quality. Plus it's one of those incredibly rare effects that isn't your normal OD/chorus/delay/etc. but is totally useful.
@LeonTodd5 жыл бұрын
So glad someone else enjoys it as much as I do! Only thing that I've found to do it is the arpeggiator in the Axe-Fx, but that's a fully fledged modeller not a tiny little pedal like the H9

Dig the H9. I have 2 but I'm tempted to trade them in for something that's just easier to use. During a song, who wants to whip out their iPad? Also, their interface (both on pedal and on app) seem like they were designed by an engineer. I'm not a professional musician. I don't have hours and hours and hours to tweak and learn. I don't want to practice my pedal skills. I want to practice my guitar skills.

@@rustygrant a great example of usability is the Line 6 Helix - AFAIK they hired a UI specialist to design the layout rather than leaving it to their engineers. Big improvement! Would love to hear your thoughts on usability in guitar gear and what your faves are.
@rustygrant4 жыл бұрын
@@LeonTodd I took a look at the Helix in a GC. It LOOKS usable on the surface but I honestly could not figure out basic utilities - assigning effects to each of the different pedals. I think the mistake a lot of these companies make is: 1) they hire people who are way to wonky 2) they don't consider most common use cases and over emphasize super users.

IMHO when you put the mix of the reverb to 20% (like you did at the end) it is still very high in volume. I'd try to set it to 7-12 to get it more focused and not too washed out. It'll sound better in a mix too (unless you're going for pads then go for 100) With reverb less is most often more. Really cool Demo though 🤘

@LeonTodd5 жыл бұрын
That would be a monstrous rig. If the FM3 has the megatap delay block it will be able to do most of this stuff. However, one nice thing about the H9 is that each algorithm is pretty much set and forget, whereas you'd need to build something like the undulator from a few blocks in the FM3.
