Bypass is also Baldwin b7577 1 3/8- 16 threads, 5inch OD by 10 inch $27. The filter base by Baldwin is OB1308 By-Pass Lube Filter Base $58 to $88 threaded 3/8 NPT. Baldwin filter and base both appear to have pinhole restrictions. Pruno

I was looking for a small size filter and had no luck under 10 micron, may go with the B50 size because this truck filter is overkill. Thanks for the part numbers and price from RockAuto. After checking the Beta Ratio from Wix, this filter is 5u @ 50% & 14u @ 90% efficiency.

Same issue here. Unless you want to spend $500+ for an amsoil full flow & by pass system, a Baldwin bt341 is the way to go. No it won't filter to 2 microns absolute, but it's affordable. Wix is advertised by many sellers as a micron rating of 10. But that's the nominal rating. The Baldwin series of the bt341 for small 4 cylinder engines, the b50 for mid sized applications and B164 for diesel pickup size engines is hard to beat for the $. The filter size he bought does filter better but is way oversized for my 1.8t vw. I've got 240,000 miles on it. I'll be installing a full flow filter relocation kit with oil cooler. But a by pass filter instead.

My best cleaning filter is the Australian Jackmaster Classic. They claim 1 micron if you use their elements. If you can get down to 2 microns thats pretty good.

They are cheap but dont clean .oil.None of the spin on filters clean oil. My 64 Rambler came factory equipped with a spin on bypass filter. I was changing the oil as soon as it looked dirty which was often. Put a Frantz filter on and it never got dirty again. Never changed oil again.engines were a lot dirtier then. After almost 60 years of experience I only know of three filters I would put on my cars. That would be the Frantz the Motor Guard and the Gulf Coast The Gulf Coast and the Motor Guard being the easiest to service. With the Rambler the orifice was in the filter. The overhead valve engines had a full flow filter. All I have in use now is Motor Guards and Gulf Coasts. The orifice will make the bypass spin on clean better than the full flow but not good enough.

Hey even though this is four years ago I'm wondering if I could get some advice, I recently purchased a 2014 Ford SVT raptor V8 6.2 and somebody recommended this set up to me unfortunately I don't understand that much about it, would you recommend that set up for this vehicle, it still has under 60,000 miles on it and no issues, but if you think this would help I would like to know, thank you very much. 😊

That is a great question. I don't have personal experience running one of these on an engine that new, or on a gas engine. Generally these run on diesels instead of gas engines for a couple reasons. Gas engines, especially newer engines, have such tight tolerances that the oil can run extremely clean if it is changed frequently/properly maintained. Diesel engines, especially older Diesel engines, run much dirtier and the oil easily gets loaded up with soot. This is why you basically never see a diesel engine without black engine oil, even if it is right after an oil change. Diesel engines also have much higher capacity oil systems, so there is more savings to be had by keeping the oil that is in there really clean and able to run longer between intervals. So all that said, newer gasoline engines just have lower benefits from a system like this on multiple fronts, making it not always worth installing. The other complicating factor, is that those engines run such thin oil that the orifice in a bypass filtration setup like this would need to be much much smaller. What I would recommend is keeping shorter oil change intervals, and every time you do an oil change run a product like Motor Medic Engine Flush through the system before changing the oil. This will keep the inside of the engine extremely clean, and I think eliminate the need for a bypass set up like this. This is what I do with all my vehicles, and whenever I need to open them up to do something, they are spotless inside. Even my Tahoe that has 290,000 mi on it is basically spotless inside. When I do the oil change at 3000 miles the oil comes out almost clean looking.

Hello i would like to setup a bypass filtration circuit for my engine but would like a smaller sized filter with say 3-5 micron rating is there something like that or do they all have to be that size of filters?

My best cleaning filter is the Australian Jackmaster Classic. They claim 1 micron with their elements. It has an advantage in tight places. The reason it cleans better than the others is it has a very dense media and the orifice is very small. I reduced the orifice from .060 inch to .025.inch. That should get it under 1 micron. Put the orifice at the inlet. It cleans 3/4 th quart per minute with hot 10 30. Super Tech. How it will work in cold weather I dont know.

@@ukraine345 Yes absolutely. It wouldn't turn your oil completely clear, but it would significantly reduce the wear on bearings due to impurities in the oil. 2-micron is pretty dang good.

I was going to put this in my diesel truck looks like it’s going to have to wait a bit longer haha filter is 40 bucks plus I need fittings and hoses

​@@watermalanblew My 64 Rambler American came equipped with a bypass filter bolted to the flat head 6 with steel oil lines. The CarQuest equivalent is a 10 micron filter. I cleaned the oil by installing a Frantz oil cleaner..that used toilet paper.
