A simple and elegant leaf that can be shaped up in just 5 minutes.
It lends itself well as a jewellery design feature.

I have some mother of pearl earrings with a smaller gold leaf like this and have tried to make that design. So pretty! Thanks for sharing😊

You make it look so effortless! My happy ass would break no less than 6 saw blades in 5 minutes..

Oh that is not supposed to happen - perhaps you need proper technique? Like letting the saw to the work, holding the handle loosely, not pushing or leaning on it. And don't fasten the blade too tight or too loose, both will make it more vulnerable. And if it feels stuck, hold it up and see how the piece aligns - this will tell you which angle you have been sawing in and you can put the piece down in that angle and straighten it carefully or just continue in the same angle ..

"holding the handle loosely" from @katarina2438 is a great advice. It improved my technique immensely back in the day. Also, keep the place you cut close to the peg. Hope that helps

Ok, nice outcome, but I gotta ask…..what the hell was that with the setting burr, carving the relief of the leaf? Maybe I’m missing something. You were way over-revving that, you’ll blunt it doing just a couple of these, and setting burrs are too expensive to waste for that…..why not just use a graver? Or, it was already blunt and you keep a supply of blunt burrs as random carving tools?

How would you use a graver for that? The leaf looks to wide for me to do that with a graver

@@theyakninjaToo wide? How so, just different profile shapes? I mean, maybe he’s only got one as he’s a mounter not a setter, but most people have a few, right? I might be over-thinking this - the first question is always “will the thing I’m thinking of look good”, and then it’s whatever tool comes to hand. I’m just saying, this guy is clearly way better than me, and I just wouldn’t have wasted a £5 burr on scooping out a thin sliver of metal.

@@johnfranklin8147 well ok, this leaf is not too wide, I agree. And he could have used a cylindrical burr, they are cheap :) look for "Anif G" channel on youtube, he does this kind of leaves all the time, all with cylindrical burr, it looks kind of sloppy in the process but in the end it turns out great. On the other hand, if you use a graver, you have to set this thing in wax and then get it out, clean it up, that adds another 10+ minutes and the video title stops making sense :)

@@theyakninja I agree - I hadn’t thought about how to hold the piece - would be fine if it were already soldered to a ring or something….a single cut like that I wouldn’t bother with cement, just hold ring in ring clamp, but as it is, what I would call a frazing burr, sideways, would probably be the thing. That guy Anif G….crazy technique, look how he holds the saw, draws freehand, and yet the piece turns out!
