Yeah, I’d love to see an Asus guide post Intel baseline. Since I’m uncertain about overclocking my 14900k on my Z790 Maximus Formula. I have a TG Contact Frame, Lian Li Galahad II INF LCD AIO. I’ve been overclocking on/off for many years. But it’s got too confusing now, with so many settings associated with volts/current etc. I’d also like to know how long OCCT small SSE is run for, to be considered stable?

You are the most capable person I have seen in overclocking, I have only one request, would you mind adding 2/3 gaming benchmarks in your videos? I think many people would be interested in the result also in the gaming field.
@SkatterBencher9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! My game benchmarks currently consists of Returnal, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Final Fantasy XV. I used to also include CS:GO when the FPS Benchmark was still available. I use these games because they have built-in benchmarks so it's convenient (and fast) to measure performance. Any suggestions what games I should include? Also, I've been told I should swap out the RTX 2080 TI for something more powerful.
@ShocKv99 ай бұрын
@@SkatterBencher These games are fine, the important thing is to have a reference point with which to make comparisons, I also suggest Warzone (even a 30 second clip) which is free and is a fairly popular game, if possible MW3 2023 which has the benchmark integrated, the problem is that MW3 2023 is paid. Yes, if you have the possibility of putting a more powerful GPU better, do it only if it doesn't waste too much time, which already takes a lot of time for these results I imagine.

Thats becuase recently Intel has been having horrible problems with the i9 13th - 14th gen CPUs crashing with unlimited power application settings on. You have to limit the I9 13th and 14th power draw now. Meaning overclocking to 6GHz is almost impossible with the instability problems.

@MhillPlays4 ай бұрын
Are you on the latest Bios? Make sure your using Intel Baseline Profile and not the boards optimised defaults. Vast majority of the time, crashing and stability issues was caused by the SVID setting being far too optimistic (thk AIB's for that stupidness) that leads to AC_LL being too low for the V/F curve, either set it to Auto or Typical Scenario. You can use Intel fail Safe, but this is usually aggressive with AC_LL and leads to higher vcore/temps. That was their way of making sure even poor bins remain stable.
@cosmic58233 ай бұрын
@@MhillPlays yeah i was using asus z790 a prime, i switched to asrock z790 sonic, no SVID behavior in asrock but set pl1/pl2 and the core current limit. I'm not using intel baseline profile because intel says not to use that, instead i went and set every limit to intel's spec's instead of letting the board auto assign anything. I'm not using any particular load line calibration settings. I did try setting to level 3 and became unstable. Seeking a weekend of peace, i accepted playing at lower freq, but i'm still crashing in games periodically.

Thank you for the video. Is this with everything enabled? All the states, hyperthreading, all different turbos? HT is a bitch to tame with 14th gen. It adds so much effect on the cpu. I'd say even 100W at this kind of load. I really hope you get your hands on a Encore, a DDR8000 kit and this cpu to see what you can do without HT, and without E-Cores. It will definitely be an eye opener for many.

Yes, C-state and Hyper-Threading enabled. Turbo management is of course manually configured. You can get the full details on this overclock in my longer Skatterbencher video kzbin.info/www/bejne/jajCc32er8Sqb5o Agree that HT is a tough constraint with 14th gen overclocking!

What's the point of trying to push such high clocks when the system won't even let you get there by thermal throttling.... I have a 14700k runs at 5.6ghz/4.6ghz all core at 1.30 static volts all day long, much simpler o/c to set and you won't notice that much difference not to mention it's much easier on the hardware, hardly ever see temps above 85c in benchmarks. I have nothing against such aggressive overclocks do what you wish with the hardware you paid for but to me running the cpu on the edge like that just degrades it more quickly over time.

I think my problem with trying to use these settings with the exact same setup as you as mentioned before, is that I can’t seem to boot with IA AC to 1 and IA DC to 50. I had tried messing with these before watching your videos but could generally only find asus specific info and no posted impedances of what gigabytes premade LLC curve settings are. Do you have that information or if I can’t boot with 1,50, is it the delta between them, their absolute values, both? I had heard things like 0.92, 1.03 or similar ratios but have yet to really find anything usable other than the built in LLC curves.

I'm on a new setup and I'm trying your guide. If i test with cinebench, it crashes after some seconds. Also if I play a game, after some minutes it crashes and I'm back to the desktop. After many tries I noticed that the big issue is xmp. If i disable it I can play the game but cinebench starts rendering and then, after a minute or so, crashed anyway. Do you have some suggestions?
@SkatterBencher9 ай бұрын
My first suggestion would be you check out the longer SkatterBencher version where I explain the whole process in more detail. Each setting is chosen for a particular reason and it might help you understand what's going on kzbin.info/www/bejne/jajCc32er8Sqb5o. Cinebench in particular is an interesting workload for 14th gen. It's an AVX workload but doesn't trigger the AVX offset. Typically, the only solution is to lower the ratio by 1 and check again.
@inurmomsbedroom1238 ай бұрын
@SkatterBencher I'm having the same issue as the other guy. Except that Cinebench crashes on stock settings and beyond. Underclocking was the only way I could get it to run. [Undervolting crashes it too]. The PC will run most things fine while OCd but will crash the instant it encounters any sort of high work load. Did you by chance update the bios past 'F3'? I'm going to update my bios to the current version and see if that changes anything.
@channelthechannel8 ай бұрын
This guy's overclocks are anything but stable and stress the CPU to an insane degree. Not recommended.
@SkatterBencher8 ай бұрын
Yes, I used F5b for my guide. Your issue sounds related to the AC loadline and VR loadline configuration. Gigabyte is pretty aggressive with this on stock BIOS to keep temperatures low. You can try to change the VRM loadline from Auto to Low or Medium and see if it helps.
@inurmomsbedroom1238 ай бұрын
@@SkatterBencher I updated the BIOS, and that seemed to fix my Cinebench problem (kinda). I used XTUs ai tool to OC. It still crashed but that was at 0:30 secs left on the 10 minute throttle test, so that's better than before where it was BSODing after hitting start. (The current crash isn't a BSOD, it just closes Cinebench). I then tried to run Stellaris (Paradox game that is very cpu intensive) but it crashes after a few years in game. To be fair, Paradox games tend to be naturally unstable even on a working PC, so idk if the cpu is the problem here. That all said, I'm going to follow your guide again and try adjusting the settings you suggested. Will update after.
