The capabilities of Swiss machines are truly remarkable. Great video!

Had a pal, last century, who had a lot of small Swiss machines, not as sophisticated as these. He made small brass screws, very small, and his profit was just in the turning swarf.

I'll tell ya, that's a surprisingly underutilized area to increase profit, if you aren't negotiating on scrap prices you're losing out

Pretty sure I'd quote both ways. Low ball & I keep the swarf, or high ball & you get the swarf. Lots of room there to apply some psychological trickery to steer them in the direction you want.

The idea that these parts, so small, are yet so intricate and require such precise tooling and machinery to manufacture at scale is truly remarkable. Humans are amazing!

So cool to see what these Swiss machines can do! Awesome video!

It's so satisfying seeing that completed part get dropped into the chute at the end of the ops. I'm sure the sound it makes is the machinists' equivalent of "cha-ching!" Also, it reminds me of a vending machine.

You should do a video on how to machine titanium on a Swiss machine
@brandons913810 ай бұрын
You do it like you do on any other machine tool. Titanium isn't that big of deal to work with. Pretty straightforward.

That is 1 cool machine. I'm sure this machine can work lights out but what happens if a tool was go bad or break does the machine know to stop? I'm not a machinist an only a owner of a automotive repair shop an love what you guys do. Thanks sharing

Not sure how that's taken care of with these specific machines. Typically for CNC machines there aren't any sensors to tell wether the cutting tools are broken or have gone dull. A chance of something breaking once a program has gone into mass production, isnt that likely (excluding operator error). Some machines let you specify how many cutting hours a tool can make and then flash a warning to change the tool. Dull cutting tools sound different during the cutting. A good operator can tell by the sound. There is also 3rd party machines that can do the same. And I suppose you can also tell if the spindle load goes up, that the tool is dull. Worst is if inspection comes and tells you that out 1000 parts the last 200 are out of spec.

@@87mits thanks. Sounds legit an was just curious. So I guess you load several tools and the after so many parts made it automatically will change out so an start over. Thanks again. Be safe

Do they recycle all the stuff that gets chipped away? Insane how much waste there seems to be compared to 3d printing.

im still so confused as to how a part can stay running true in a swiss lathe haha
@brandons913810 ай бұрын
Your raw stock has to pretty damn straight or things can get squirrely real quick. We are fighting some fucked up material at my shop right now. It's not super bent, but enough that it's causing issues. with the parts.
