This is my second go around of ownership of a S550 Mach 1. My mod selection is now a bit more selective as I have the power of hindsight. I'll show what I thought was most important and provided the most bang for my buck.

Tony, thanks for the tire tip. I got the Michelin 4S and they are perfect. You were spot on about the 325 rears. No rubbing and looks excellent. Thanks again. The catch can does get oil in it, May not be needed, but can't hurt.

Good tip on the battery lid mod. I have those hood struts for my focus ST and i love them. A must have item for any serious car owner. Also, dead on about the dash cam. Have had one for years because of stupid drivers.

The oil catch can is 100% necessary to maintain octane and not file up your plugs. But if you're not emptying it roughly every 1,000 miles you've missed the point. The Ford piece requires you to remove several small bolts before you can empty it.

100% incorrect, you disconnect the snap fitting connectors going into and out of the catch can itself and tip it on to the side with the lower port down to empty it. No breaking the seal on top or needing to retorque screws. Every 1000 mi / 1600 km is pure overservicing. You will only see a few millilitres at that frequency.

@@zoe..d That way you'll have to buy new hoses unnecessarily once those snap fittings break. Moreover, there is a lot of oil in the can after 1000 miles when and if you regularly performance drive (high RPM) your Mustang GT. Which you do, hence the reason you need a catch can in the first place. I hope this helps.

Was very sad to see your 2021 get wrecked, but looking forward to your videos with the 2022. I have a 2021 Mach 1 and absolutely recommend the oil separator catch can. I have passenger and driver side on mine. The driver side is probably not necessary and has been bone dry. From the passenger side, I've pulled a few tablespoons of oil out of it over the first 4k miles. Also, emptied it just before a track day last week...and had about a tablespoon in it afterwards...from about 3x 20 minute sessions. Easy and relatively cheap preventative measure.

100% I run a dashcam on every car. No reason not to spend $30-80 to prove what happened in an accident if needed. I even got a separate one for the rear window in my Mach 1.

Hey Tony, great to see the Mach 1 back. As you are going to install a dash cam maybe you can detail some of the issues that could come up with most installations. 1/ connection to a permanent supply so the camera can work in parking mode when the ignition is off. 2/ will you fit a WiFi hub in your car to give your camera access to the internet for cloud back up and also wireless phone connection? 3/ Some people are now installing 2 dash cams, so you can have side protection, I'm seriously considering this as normal dash cams only give front and rear views. Thanks for watching Marcus. I installed that camera in roughly 20 minutes. I did an install video with the the wife's Fiat a couple of weeks back. They are pretty much the same. The biggest issue is figuring out what fuses to tie into. Constant power versus keyed. Other than that it's pretty simple. I bought that Garmin 5 years ago so it does not have Wifi. I'm not sure you would need side cameras as most dash cams go 180 degrees on the field of view. So a front/rear set up should have you covered. The cost of dash cam is the cheapest insurance you can buy. I had a friend watch my crash video and go buy one and install it that day into 2021 GT500. 3 weeks later a trash truck drops its driveshaft in front of him on the interstate while a double tractor trailer was on his right. He had no choice but to go over it. The insurance company for the truck really has no choice but to pay up for the repairs as their client was at fault.

Passenger side catch can is necessary. It fills up with oil which means it’s useful. The drivers side on the other hand is unnecessary and a joke.

The non-catch can crew believes that the fuel injection is set up to wash deposits off the plugs and valves so it's not needed. That is the engineers thoughts as well but I go with better safe than sorry and agreed it is absolutely not needed on the drivers side.

Hello! The hook is fine as long as the rim is not broken and the problem with the tire is a small hole or a nail or something similar, that's why I replaced the repair kit and bought a spare tire with its jack. On long trips I also take the original kit and put it in the trunk.

Thanks for the info. I chose to get a spare tire. Yes, there is one that fits the Brembos..I also keep a plug kit and tire tools in the vehicle as well. Hood struts won’t work on mine. Just like my 2019 GT the kit causes the pass rear corner of the hood to kick up and the left front corner down. I have tried two different kits and no joy. Catch can is in…x-pipe, MGW, HP rear spoiler and Wheel Replicas version of the HP wheel. I think the dash cam is looking like it’s going to happen…

I would be interested in a link for the spare you picked up. I have no issue with hood alignment with the redline struts and I am sorry to hear about yours. I'm not quite sure if I am going to go with res delete or the MGW this time around. I did have some drone with the BBK x-pipe I had in my 2021 and other than making it sound louder (which is nice) I see no other benefit. Also the MGW is better but no where near the level of improvement that I saw with my S197. So yes it is better but not extremely better. I'm on the fence on that upgrade as well. Thanks for watching it is appreciated. Dash cam literally saved me a TON of hassle over the accident. Maryland is state where the at fault driver is responsible and if the other insurance company can push any percentage blame onto you they will. In my case because of the dashcam footage that was impossible. I have them in every vehicle I own now.

Yes sir fire extinguisher is on the other side, with the 1st aid kit. Glass break hammer and mace in the drivers side pocket. Hammer is mounted with a strong clip so it stays in place.

I have a plug kit and the inflator so it would have to be a severe puncture to require a tow. I also carry tow reimbursement insurance on my auto policy. It's actually pretty inexpensive.

For those that will do the hood struts tuck rags between the fender and fender well in case you drop your socket like I did it won’t fall down in between like mine did and have to fish it out with a long line magnet like I did 😡😡😡

@@YingYangStang Most likely no. It offers little in the way of a performance gain and mostly about the sound level. I am leaning towards long tube headers. That is a rough install and will require a tune so it may have to wait until the middle of the summer. I am hoping that nets another 20+ HP.

My other mod was changing the front brake pads to carbon ceramic. I couldn't handle how quickly the wheels got coated in brake dust. Now the wheels never look dirty and I could not see any difference in stopping power.

I ceramic coated my wheels prior to putting them back on the car so that should help make cleaning a bit easier. I will run these pads till 35kish depending on track time which seems to smoke them pretty quick. After that I will do exactly what you did.

Waiting to see if you are going to do the MGW shifter again. I wasn't sold after you installed it on the last one. I did the same stuff for a flat tire that you did. There is a company that makes a spare tire that will work on these and fits in the spare tire holder. But it's $500.

Tony did you reposition the water wash line after installing the strut? I found out the hard way that the line gets crushed so I moved the line inboard to prevent further damage to the line.

So my 2018 vert has a spare tire & jack in the wheel well in the trunk, it looks like we have the same indentations for it. I believe the rental car companies have it standard in their mustangs. The problem with the Mach car is the size of wheel needed to clear the brakes. It won't fit in the wheel well. I had to get the essentials first :) the #12 will be there, all in due time.

Glad to hear you got a car as that's not easy right now and I'm not sure that happened in shipping. The lower splitter is installed at the dealer and not at the factory so something seems off with the "happened in shipping" story. Seems more likely that it happened during dealer prep.

Hello Tony, I’ve been following you for a while and value your Mach 1 wisdom. I’m having difficulty finding the correct continental you recommend. Can you give me the exact continental tire for the 305s in the front and the 325s in the back. Also my original front tires are badly worn but only on the insides of both. I still ride with the factory settings. Is this normal or are the settings off? I only have 8000 miles on the original tires. Looking forward to your opinion. Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02. Tirerack has them and the are $230 less than the Pilot 4s for a set of 4. Most track focused Mustangs front inside tread wears like that because of the factory alignment. They toss a couple of degrees of camber into the alignment to keep the tires flatter on the curves. You can have the the cars front end alignment set to zero and that will stop most of the wear. IF you are not tracking the car consistently that is what I would advise. @@pvaccariello1645 If you have FordPass points you might have it done at no cost so the dealer would be an option. I have my tires mounted by a shop that has a touchless tire machine. That way the rims stay nice. Any shop with one of those can handle an alignment.

What tire plug kit do you use?

I buy any brand as long as there is an actual file and it has metal handles. I have had the plastic handles snap and that hurts. Tire shops will tell you it's not a proper fix and it may not be but I have run tires with plugs for easily 50,000 miles over the last 40 years and I have never had one fail. Trust them or not it's much better to plug a tire to get you off the side of road than to wait on a tow truck or roll on a flat.

If you have the handling pack the adjustable mount should have been installed at the factory. There is a section in the Mach 1 supplement owners manual on this topic.

hello and greetings from Germany, what can you do now after about a year of using the Oil catch Can? Do you still need an oil catch can with the new Mach 1? What can you report about the use and efficiency of what you say about oil?

Hallo und Willkommen! You should empty the catch can at least every oil change as it will do it's job. No you don't "need it" on a new Mach 1 because the fuel injection system cleans the combustion chamber. That said they are a cheap and easy to add. You only need one on the passenger side and if the oil never enters the chamber you know for a fact it's clean. I installed it because I had recovered it from my 2021. It was laying by itself on the road after the accident several feet from the car. I just picked it up intact. I have to say I was in a bit of shock at the time.

Marcus, No I really haven't had the car out much since I have installed the tires. I know they are going to very good as I have run these tires on multiple cars in the past and really like them. I went one size over on the rear because they do not make a 315 and the fronts are 305.

Is anyone else having BAD inside shoulder wear on the front tires with the factory spec street toe alignment? I didnt even get 5000 kms on these cup2's... local dealership says this is NORMAL and i should plan to buy new tires every 3000 kms if im going to daily drive it...

I would not buy another set of cup 2s. They are track tires that are barely street legal. 5000 miles is average for that tire.

A decent set of summer only tires make the car a much nicer car to drive. No more tram lining and they are safe in the rain. You can get it aligned and get the toe out of the front but Cup2s are track tires and are very soft tires that burn off quickly

It came with the car. If you have a Mach 1 you should have one as well. I use Redline struts. I have bought them 3 times now with no complaints.

I am a subscriber and I have been watching all of your videos since I am new to the Ford family. Sorry about your first Mach 1. Glad you and your wife are okay. I recently purchased a '21 Mach 1 with 1,300 miles on it in March from a dealer in SC. Since I was not technically the "first" owner of the vehicle, I have been unable to get the Mach 1 welcome kit sent to me from Ford Performance Group and the dealer said the first owner claims he never received it. I was wondering if you would be willing to part with your first welcome kit. I do not need the plaque, but would love to have the welcome kit. Obviously I would be willing to pay for any shipping costs and if you need proof that I own the car, I'll send you photos and a pic of the window sticker. Thank you for your consideration.

Not yet that is next on my list. I hope to have something in the next week or so. You will do better with headers alone as the car will adjust on it's own but a tune would be able to maximize your gain.

@@gian-lucbrasseur207 You can let let it rip right after install. The ECU will alter a few settings on it's own but it won't hurt anything. The only real issue with a TUNE is that Ford may not honor the engine warranty. All that depends on the dealer and what they report. Consumers of aftermarket products are protected by the Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. The Act provides that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless whatever modifications you have added to your vehicle directly caused the problem in question. That said some dealers improperly void warranties when they see aftermarket parts on a vehicle. If you have good relationship with your dealer you will have no issues with a tune if you don't it could make it difficult should u have an issues down the road. Either way the headers alone shouldn't be an issue at all with a warranty but a tune would get you more out of them.

Hey Tony, I finally picked up my tow hook from the dealer. It fits perfectly in the cut out in the trunk. However, its not even close to being the thread hole diameter in my mach 1. The tow hook not only is smaller but also corse thread vs fine thread in the car. Dealer cross referenced my VIN and said its the only option for that car. Whats wrong here? Any advice

That's odd it should be the correct threads. There will a second one that arrives with the owners kit form Ford. Have you received that yet?

I have a Garmin but it's 5 years old now. I do recommend them. This one has been through the accident and is still ticking right along. The video quality is much better than most however they are bit more pricey than those off brand coming out of China. Thanks for watching.

I placed my order for a 2022 Mach 1 with the handling package that will get pushed back to next Spring 2023, will the mach 1 be continued for the 2023 model year or discontinued?

That's a great question Alex. My guess is that we won't see the S650 until mid year 2023 at the earliest so I think your order for a Mach 1 will be a 2023 S550 Mach1 and I wouldn't be surprised if the order gets moved up at some point as Flatrock hasn't seen shut down in months and is cranking through orders. I don't think we will see a special edition S650 in the first year of production and therefore no more Mach 1's once those cars begin production. I have been saying there will be a 2023 S550 for months now (half year run) however others have been saying I'm wrong on that one so we shall see.

@@TonysFordsandMustangs Tony, thanks for the information, I figured they will reveal it in September and then begin orders summer of next year for a late Fall/Winter of 2023 into 2024. Hopefully the shortgages are being worked through, if it comes in spring of next year that's great for me, but then again im intirgured to see what the s650 looks like, for the most the mustang just continues to get better and better. Appreciate the response, great channel and feedback! Thanks buddy

Tony, what size wheels and tires are you running? I have a non handling package mach1 with 255/275 set up but I want to go bigger.

I have handling package, Fronts are 305mm (That's factory) Rears are 325mm one size up from factory.

The 4s Michelins are still the best tires period if your car isnt a garage queen.....you get what u pay for. Just bought a brand new 2022 mach 1 yesterday with 3:73 gears...but my 4 year old stock vette would still smash it.i love my new car...coming from a 2019 c7 stingray, you realize how badass the vettes really are. Torque for days....i wonder did I make the right decision when my bone stock vette would bitchslap my current car I just bought by a car length...but mustangs will always sound better...so there's that

I had Michelin 4S's and I prefer Continentals. I get better traction off the line I see no difference in handling. They are bit cheaper (maybe $25 per tire) but I would buy the Conti's again if they were $25 more per tire. Comparing C7 to a Mustang isn't really fair to either. I use my Mustang for cross country trips & track time all across the country. That would be much more difficult in a C7 due to the small storage space. That said the C7's walk away from me on most tracks. The Mach 1 is more of a touring car that can be tracked where as a C7 is a track car that can be driven around town.

@Tony's Fords and Mustangs yep...meaning the c7s are absolute monsters of a car. Love me some mustangs but they can't run with a c7 and especially a c8...I hope I didn't fuck up and trade in a slower car for one with a better exhaust note

@Tony's Fords and Mustangs by the way the c7s don't have bad storage space. I've put $400+ dollars of groceries in the trunk, and lit up anything with a blue oval. I'm afraid I messed up trading in an absolute beast of a car for just a decently fast one. We'll see

Corvettes are what mustangs would be if they had torque and top end. I've owned 9 mustangs. How disappointing is it to me to know that car could carry my entire months worth of groceries and blow past a mustang at top end like it was sitting still...maybe I can get my 15 grand back...mustangs are corvettes if they were way slower...but it is what it is. I guess I can drop 15 racks into it and make it as fast as a base model vette. I should have kept my stingray....if it doesn't have the word Shelby on it...its SLOW asF

​​​@@jrvbamafan1 Corvettes arent pony cars. And the camaro would have never been invented if Ford didn't lead the way by introducing the mustang. Speaking of leading the way, the C8 would never have gone mid-engine if the Ford GT didnt stomp them so badly in Le Mans for their 50th year anniversary. But not all of us can afford a twin turbo GT and have to settle for a vette.
