@Jay in LA Have you even actually owned one or did you just day hire one from Turo to impress girls at your school? Because you're kind of embarrassingly ill informed, little boy. Lucky for you I love talking about cars, and despite reliability issues I love German cars: Beemers, like other DE brands, are not great in terms of long term reliability, I will explain why shortly. This fact is no flat earth conspiracy or secret, it is actually fairly widely accepted among most car enthusiasts, as well as both professional and & hobby mechanics. The people espousing, ney, preaching nonsense about BMW's cars being paragons of reliability, like your good self, are usually those who run right out and buy the flashest looking box-on-4-wheels they can on credit, to impress strangers out of insecurity or overcompensation, or whatever (wink-wink). Those passionate about the, still very impressive, engineering would be cognisent of such well known shortcomings with the German market, whilst enthusing us all with, for example, the amazing F1 derived cutting edge tech that makes it into BMW models. If you can muster the old grey mater into action and a bit of courage to face the truth of the German car industry; the fact they have been pooping out unreliability for a hot minute, then it's really not that hard, even for a chap like you, to find actual independent reliability data from reputable sources that verifies what I'm saying. ('Parkers' - is one such source in the UK) ...Ever owned a Porsche? Ask a few Audi owners if they've had any work done. Even round up a few Jetta drivers and you'll hear stories. Compared to Japanese brands, hell, even Fords, your little Turo day out does not represent reality. BMW's are not known for being reliable. - I hope that is sinking in. I think what has steered you off course is the fact you are basing your opinion on a sample size of 1, you... and you're clearly going to be bias, no offence, but you're clearly not top of the critical thinking pile. So why are German cars so crap? It is not because of incompetence that's for sure, It's because most customers these days lease, here in Europe like 80-80% of new sales, the most common lease term is 3 years, so there is little point incurring any expenditures pertaining to long-term reliability when your target demographic won't benefit, and it's nice for you as a manufacturer if people are motivated to keep buying your NEW cars, no? To be totally honest, I effing love a good Beemer, have done for spanning 3 decades, but I'm not falling into the same trap as you, of being a butthurt evangelical preacher for the cult of German automotive, just because my huge ego got wrapped up in a brand, that's just strait up immature... and that's before we even get to your like arrogance and over-keenness to appear like you've got money (hallmark of a Turo try-hard 😅 ). I was going to wish you trouble free motoring but I know buses are quite reliable and if you ever get a good job you'll lose it all on BMW repairs. 🤣 Peace 🙃 🤑🤯

Jay in LA Why do fools like you assume they know everything. BMW is the cheapest luxury car to buy used. If you want quality Go Lexus V8. Had a e60 550i which was breaking down monthly at 110k miles. One of the problems is that they push technology before it is ready, while it works it's great, when it doesn't it's expensive to fix. A few years down the track the technology becomes reliable and is available on standard cars. Engine wise they push the engine to the limit causing more wear and tear than standard cars which are downrated to leave a margin for future tweaks and be more reliable. And so on.

I’ve always wanted to have a luxury car, but being 51 years old and spending the last 31 years of my life having 37 operations because of Crohn’s disease and intestinal cancer, I’m not exactly a wealthy man, the total opposite actually! Whatever Money I used to have is long gone, spent on medications and medical supplies, and now I was forced at the age of 46 to retire early and go on permanent long-term disability because I’m just too sick to work, having less than 5% left of my entire gastrointestinal tract, not to mention 11 chronic illnesses that we are all side effects from the treatments. But with all that said, I am still hell-bent on getting myself a luxury car before I die, and at the rate I’m going that might not be much longer, I’m already living on borrowed time, which is why I really appreciate these videos you make, because they really help me decide what I want. If I truly really want, I could cash in some of my savings bonds but I was able to put together years ago, but I don’t want to do that unless absolutely necessary because I don’t know how long I will live. I know full well that if I cash in those bonds all live to be 80, if I don’t touch them all die within the next couple of months, that’s just the kind of luck I have, so screw it, I’m getting myself one of these cars, just can’t decide which one yet. There’s just one difference, I’m in Toronto, Canada, so the prices here are probably going to be quite a bit higher than what you guys pay, but right now I’m driving a 2006 Ford 500 limited, I got it for free from my father after he bought himself a brand new fully loaded Taurus SHO, it only has 120,000 km, which is what? 60,000 miles? It’s a good car but, it’s ugly, has no style and no power, And to be honest, I love a car with a ton of Power, One that can accelerate incredibly quickly and can corner on a dime with no body roll. My Ford? Let’s just say that all my friends have nicknamed it, “the tank“, I fitting name perfectly describes its performance! And I absolutely hate it! I have a bit of a leadfoot, but I’m a safe driver, 35 years of driving and not one accident we’re not even a ticket, I just want so desperately a car but after I hit the gas pedal would stop and ask if I want to go faster! The Ford is greatly under powered with a V6 3 L 203hp engine all-wheel-drive system, I swear to God when I hit the gas pedal, the cars computer pauses, and says “oh, you want to go faster, OK I’ll try“, however it never listens to me, and just drags it’s ass along the highway!, but it is incredibly reliable, and really cheap to fix, which is why I’ve been procrastinating, but after watching your videos, I’m just beginning to think screw it. My diseases could come back or flare up at any time, and I already know that they will lead to my death eventually, far sooner than most people. Because I live on disability I do have to watch my money, but I am married, and my spouse makes about 75,000 a year, not a lot but enough to survive on, Toronto is a really expensive city to live in. So I’m gonna leave it to you guys, if you were in my situation, out of all the cars mentioned in both videos, which one do you think would be the best value, and the cheapest to repair? I love the Maza Roddy, but I’ve always been a BMW fan, I’ve just never been able to afford one, I assumed they were just out of my price range, but after watching this I know that they’re not, at least the used ones. I’ll probably still keep the Ford 500, it’s always nice to have a second set of wheels just in case, and the insurance cost nothing, so it really doesn’t cost me anything since I already own it.... so ladies and gentlemen, what do you think? If you were in my situation, which car do you think would be the best one, I’m asking everybody including you my friend, who made this video. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated, but please try to get back to me as soon as you can by commenting on my post here, because I don’t know how much longer I’ll be around, but come hell or Highwater I am going to my grave, knowing the pride of driving a luxury car that will turn heads, and not people stomachs like my current car does! What kills me is, my Ford 500, which is in show room new condition, that has every single available option, is actually worth almost as much is a used BMW, what the hell? There’s a big difference between Ford, and luxury vehicles, no offence to any Ford lovers out there. My first car was a Ford mustang 5 L, I loved that car, but it 51 I think it’s time that I get to drive a grown-up, big boys car! Thanks again everyone, cheers!

Ok, so I own a 14 Optima sxl 2.0 turbo. 279HP 269 lb-ft 0-60 like 5 and 1/2 - 6 ish But the point is: heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, nice interior, "fancier" looking exterior (I get compliments and ppl not believing it's a Kia) .. all these things that comparable "luxury" brands offer for like $12k .. it's relatively cheap to maintain and reliable as well.. it may not actually be a "luxury" brand, but they're doing big things.

Price comparisons with Australia's used market 2010 750Li - most recent version available - $39,500 (27,200USD rather than $15,000) 2014 Quattroporte - Cheapest one under 6 years old - $84,900 (58,460USD > $25,000) 2015 Q60 - Cheapest Q60 in the country outright - $24,800 (17,000USD.. pretty similar to your numbers, just 2 years older) 2012 Jag XF - Cheapest from 2012 on - $20,000 (13,770USD > $10,000) Lincoln MKZ... well can't check that because we don't get lincolns at all The first 2, especially the Maserati are simply way off compared to our market, which is unfortunate as cheap, couple year old luxury cars are often my preferred choice when shopping around. Here the best deals you can get on a budget are a ~2012 BMW 3 series / Mercedes C class Avantgarde / Audi A4 each for about $13k (9kUSD) For something a little more upmarket, and non-german the Hyundai Genesis is quite nice with 2015 ish models coming in around $20k (13,770USD), though despite being newer I still prefer the Jag when looking in this price range. Steer well clear of the Jaguar XF. Especially ones with over 70k on the clock. They also have several annoying design issues and a crap sat nav system. Mine was no better after paying for the 2019 firmware update and new maps. Issues include weak intercoolers, bad wiring looms, electric window failure due to water leaks, alternator will fail suddenly and without warning at anywhere between 40k and 90k. Turbo acutator failure will cost 700 to replace just the acutator. Primary turbo oil seal failure which gets disguised by the dpf, you won't realise it has a problem until you see The dpf will start to regen every 200 miles or so and eventually fail because of that. The plastic inlet manifolds crack and that is an 8.5 hour job just to replace them, never mind the parts cost. Rear axle bushes fail and you have to buy the whole wishbone assembly as you can't just buy the bushes. That's 500 UK pounds a side. Annoying dashboard squeaks and rattles. Lots of component failures in the engine management system. Lovely looking car, but those looks are deceptive. It's as vicious on your wallet as a real life jaguar would be to you if you met one in the jungle.

The problem with some of these cars is that their sales volume is SO LOW that the manufacturer carries a MINUSCULE quantity of SPARES. I once had a FIAT “UGH” after the exhaust system fell off for the second time in less than 12 months, Fiat had to get a new one from Europe. If you need a body panel, GOOD LUCK. A few weeks ago I went into one of those new fancy burger shops, in front of me was a guy who had parked next to me in a Maserati. It looked terrific. I remarked to the guy how good it looked and asked him how long he had had it. His response was “less than 6 months, do you want to buy it”.
