@@adamy3834 that's normal for a 550! LOL. We are all trained to pay attention to what we like: "The newer Benz are better" - Yes, indeed, better as falling apart right after the warranty. Some of the 40+ modules are hardly working from factory (recurring hard DTC Faults)

Not all true. Most keyboard kids are too young to know that 80s and 90s Mercedes rivalled Toyota in reliability. The most reliable cars ever made are early 90s Lexus/Toyotas, early 90s Mercedes or early 90s Volvo. The difference is that Toyota kept making reliable cars and Volvo went to Ford. Also BMW never came close to MB's reliability. They shouldn't be named in the same sentence. VAG especially fucked up with the first couple of generations DSG's.

@@JDYTC Well, I'm no "kid" and had 2 new M-Bs from that era and they were very unreliable. Both had many major mechanical and electrical failures, left me stranded, etc. Even the dealer's loaner suddenly died on a freeway! Yes, both had superb maintenance. Those good old days certainly weren't. Knew the service manage pretty well and asked whether others had similar problems. He took me to the shop where many cars were waiting for repairs identical to mine. Switched to Lexus and I'll never have another German piece of trash again.

"Ultimate Driving Machine": everyone knows that a nickname you give yourself, isn't cool. It's the opposite of cool. At least Mercedes is a little more honest: "The Best, or Nothing." See? They're telling you that when you buy a Benz, and you get nothing, don't be surprised. It's like if I gave my wife a box: "What's in the box?" "A million bucks, or nothing." *Opens box, and finds it empty.* "See? I wasn't lying." MB's slogan may as well be, "It's a potato...or not." Lexus? Theirs is even dumber (and I say that as a Lexus owner): "The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection." Seriously? They came right out and admitted it? Who the hell pursues something they already have? Ergo, they're just admitting imperfection, and buyers eat it up. I should change my motto to this: "The Relentless Pursuit of Friends." See how that means, "No friends"?

The claim is that BMW have substantially improved their quality control in manufacture in recent years. Well surely it's a bit too soon to say they have got it sorted? Also engine oil turned out to be an issue after they extended service intervals combined with turbos (that highly heat stress engine oil) becoming commonplace. That had many bad effects, like on cam chains for example and engine life in general. I think it is quite telling that in Germany, Castrol make a special (& premium) oil for BMW that Castrol do not make available elsewhere -it is a 100% Type IV PAO based oil. In Australia the head of BMW Service (for Australia) stated to me that longer service intervals are for only under "ideal" use conditions and he personally recommended the traditional change intervals (15k km max) with turbo engines. He specifically stated the 1 year service interval, meant people forget to lift the bonnet occasionally and relied entirely on the digital onscreen reminders & warnings. But while under warranty the service intervals are still annual, not 6 monthly - unless you go the extended warranty then you are obligated to bring it in six monthly, .....ahem, cough.

@footballcoreano ok, but in Australia normal working class person can only afford them after they have depreciated through the lease cycle. US price depreciation is heavier than in Australia and our new prices are double yours in affordability terms. An operating lease of a new 3 series in the USA might be USD $100/week, for the same car here it would be Aud$270+/week.

This list may be relavent for the first 3:years or 50k miles... But in general all of these cars are huge money pits meeting 100k miles. So if you do have the income to keep replacing your luxury card every few years and taking a $40k depreciation bath each time then yes I agree you have a fairly enjoyable experience while paying $1600 for a routine brake job. The ONLY exception is Lexus... A truly objective list would be the entire lineup of Lexus vehicles while laughing at the rest of them.

And i had everything done exactly on schedule or even more proactively. Name the major component and it was failing - tranny, check. steering rack , check. electrical, check. leaking and burning oil, check. Dumped it as fast as we could. Started by Toyota, Subaru, Honda, and never had a major issue since. I no longer have to worry about owning my cars out of warranty. Hell, i can buy them out of warranty!

I think too many people think "reliable" means "check engine light never comes on". The more luxurious the car, the tighter the tolerances, and the sooner the light comes on. It just comes on for "reduced turbo pressure" or "exhaust sensor questionable". Fords and Chevys don't have lights until "engine on fire"

Fabulous list! I really like your list and would have put the Macon up to 2nd or 3rd in reliability as they also hold their value better than any other luxury car. You could pretty much make the entire list out of Lexus cars. 😂 Fir someone looking for a good big luxury SUV, the LX 570 is the way to go for realizability. Also a note DO NOT option air suspension in any German car if you care about reliability. The components break very regularly and are often $1,000+ trips to your mechanic. Now maybe someone can clear this up, but I have heard the A4 is actually very unreliable. They have the carbon build up issue you mentioned but also have premature infotainment system Daimler’s, particularly on 2013 gen models.

Yeah the words ''BMW'' and ''reliability'' shouldn't be used in the same sentence... Ever... Especially the newer F and G line of 3 series and ESPECIALLY 5 series, which are VERY WELL KNOWN here in Europe as ''endless money pits.'' But if you absolutely want a sports sedan, then A MUCH better and a MUCH more reliable alternative would be getting the B9/B9.5 Audi A4 Quattro with the 2.0L engine. Audi transmission and 4WD system on B9/B9.5 A4 models will never break and will never fail, the amount of reported repairs regarding these is less than 2%, you'd have the be the unluckiest person ever to have it fail on you. Also, if you absolutely want reliability and nothing else from your car, then you quite literally have no other choice, other than to get a Toyota, Lexus or Suzuki, especially if we're talking about newer cars. My brother re-sells used cars and owns a pretty large car repair shop chain and the only cars he NEVER has issues with are Lexus' and Toyotas. Also, one of my dads friends just had air suspensions fail while driving on his Porsche and he had $8K in damage on top of $9K for the air suspension and the entire thing cost him $19K to repair... You can buy a new car for that kind of money... Oh and that's $19K with buying a USED PARTS air suspension... Yeah...

The premise of the entire video is off. He seems to base reliability on Consumer Reports, which bases their findings on surveys of people who’ve usually owned their cars less than 2 to 4 years. Talk to those of us who keep and daily drive their cars well beyond 5 years. I agree with Lexus, but you’d be hard pressed to find someone who’s daily driven a BMW or Audi longer than 6 years that would call it reliable. If you do, they’ve meticulously maintained it and aren’t including expensive electrical and mechanical accessory issues in their assessment.
