Hey I have one tip! This only applies for human encounters though: Further continuing on the last tip, for several encounters, if there's only 1 enemy left and you slip back into stealth, the enemy will usually say something like "I'll find you","Where are you" etc, basically a first person sentence. If you hear this, they're the only person left.

I went thru two survivor playthroughs and I still don’t know how to handle stalkers at all. During the Ellie section before sewers i just died a ton, but in Abby’s section to get the mask for Lev I just ran through like a madman

If you can't stealth kill them and they're charging straight at you then I honestly found that the longer you wait, the closer they get to you and the bigger their head gets on the screen so it's easier to get a headshot- and then quick melee strike to finish. Only melee them if they're stunned- and especially if their head exploded and you can see the blood bit beneath the fungal plate. If you can't stealth them or headshot them, they're just going to suck up your ammo so I'd just die and restart. It seems counterintuitive to wait but obviously don't wait until the very last second before they grab to try and shoot them but like wait for a bit to make the head target bigger. Discovered this on Grounded mode when Abby has to fight off all the infected while waiting for Yara and Lev at the car in the dark house.

I used the hunting pistol and shotgun mostly, as well as a brick and melee on one on survivor for Abby. For Ellie I laid down a mine where the around where the corpse is. I then threw a bottle in the middle of the general area. One stalker exposes his head and I hit him with an arrow. Two stalkers charge and are hit by the mine. From there I run around like a madman depleting every bullet and melee use I have. Also never use the Bolt-action rifle on stalkers in close range as you need to hit a headshot, even with the damage upgrade.

Minor tip, good for those attempting their second run through the game. Use the Watercolor render. Due to the way this one works, pretty much everything is highlighted by a white line, and is passively brighter than every other render. This is extremely good for getting through the darker areas of the game, and is also convenient regardless of how many times you’ve played through. Probably not the prettiest look, but it definitely helps. The passive brightness of it doesn’t overexpose in brighter areas, so that’s a double plus. It’s basically a free visibility boost, and you can literally go through the darkest areas of the game without needing your flashlight at all. Stalkers think they’re sneaky until you have this activated.

Good to know, TAEYEON. The tip videos are intended to help players complete Grounded without getting alternate settings and extras involved, but not everyone can do that so this is a great idea! Appreciate the input. Those stalkers better start running ahaha

The hearing/vision the enemies have in grounded is insane. In the hillcrest streets area, after the introduction to the dog I crouch walked over to the right and then dove to the ground in the grass and they heard/saw that 😐

One thing that seems counter productive but helps me a lot is using explosives as a distraction. Since they have a longer listen distance in grounded, this actually works to your advantage. If you throw a stun bomb across the map, all of the enemies will go in that direction. You can use that to make holes you can slip through (this was especially useful for dealing with the first seraphite encounter as Ellie).

Awesome tips, Gweilo Ren. Hey, I have another tip that you may like and/or help other gamers who plan on playing the game on Grounded difficulty. You can use this tip in several of the missions, both for Ellie and Abby. This is the first mission where you can apply the tip. The mission is The Seraphites (Seattle day 2) where Ellie encounters Stalkers for the very first time. In the office building, when you climb over the blocked door, Ellie will see the group of Stalkers feasting on a human corpse. You do not have to use any ammo/weapons against the Stalkers. Here's the tip: If you run and/or sneak to the window and jump through to leave and Reload your Autosave, all of the Stalkers in the office area will be gone and you can climb back into the office building and safely collect any ammo/resources. Don't worry. The Stalkers will not follow you outside to the walkway. >>>The game will automatically Autosave when you jump through the window. You must then pause the game, go to the menu and reload the Autosave.

This would've been very useful for me when I first played Grounded, I ended up knifing each one to death. How'd you work this one out? Hi, Gweilo. No worries. When I first played the game on Grounded, I made sure I made a Manual save anytime I went to a new location and/or new section of the new location. From there, I just tried experimenting different ways to pass/beat the level, including Manual saving and reloading Auto and Manuel saves. I know in some games, enemies will disappear when you go into a new area/section and you Save and Reload your Auto/Manuel save(s) and fortunately, it worked in this game. You can use this trick 4 times, that I know of. The first one is with Ellie which I posted above and the other 3 times are with Abby. I'll post them if you're interested in them. I will write it in the next post/separately as I don't want confuse you and/or anyone who may want to use the trick.

O.K. This is in the mission, The Forest (Abby, Seattle Day 1) where Abby, Lev and Yara have to get out of the forest. There is a Auto shop building where Abby can collect ammo/resources and upgrade her weapons at the workbench and then you have to drop down out of the building back into the forest. Abby, Lev, and Yara now have to go through a bunch of Runners to get to the building where you have to beat the Shambler. The tip: You don't have to fight and/or use ammo/resources against the Runners you encounter in the forest. If you run by them and make it to the house, the game will automatically Autosave. To make sure the game Autosaved your progress, pause the game and check to see if the Autosave game time matches the current time. The Runners will follow you inside house and try to kill you. When that happens, quickly Pause the game, Reload your Autosave and you will be in the house (top area) and all of the Runners will be gone. Do not, I repeat, do not let the Runners damage you. Any damage they do to you will carry over to when you Reload your Autosave. You do not have to use any ammo/resources against them and will have saved what you have. If you are very skilled in knifing all the Runners to death, then you can just do that and just ignore my tip. I'm not very good with the melee thing and I get hit a lot so I had to use this tip. I'll write in my next tip that involves this technique next.

Now, you're in the building and have to drop down where you have to kill the Runners and Shamber and then leave through the ambulance. >>> Very important!!! You must make a Manual save before you drop down. If you don't, you can't Reload the save because the game will Autosave your progress when you are out of the ambulance and out of danger. Make a Manual save before you drop down.

This is in the mission, The Coast (Abby: Seattle day 1). Abby has to make it through the shipping yard to the bridge where she jumps and eventually falls in the water. On Grounded mode, there are 7 infected enemies in this area which are a mix of Clickers, Runners and Stalkers. The tip: You don't have to use any ammo/resources against these Infected. Just run to the bridge. >>> Do not jump or the game will go to the cut scene of Abby falling into the water.

That last encounter with the Rattlers can be skipped easily. Just run past them and run downstairs. The door opens immediately. I felt like a badass figuring that out lol

ANOTHER TIP: When starting a new game on a harder difficulty, (Survivor or Grounded) save up your supplements to the 80-100 range to spend them on other branches. You’re most likely gonna want the stealth/resource management branches more than the HP branches.

Yeah.. I always play every game on hard mode first go. Not flexing AT ALL! But it's because after I master hard mode I can then move up to different difficulty levels. That in itself is a good tip. You will die. You will get frustrated... But not nearly as pissed off as you will on a difficulty level such as grounded. 😂❤️

My best tip is to avoid confrontation where you can. It doesn't work for all encounters but it helped me to get through sections like the Seraphites farm without wasting a single bullet.

i just finished grounded mode recently, the most difficult parts for me was the flooded mall encounter as ellie, and also the serpahites in the buildings on day 1 as abby and the cargo yard on day 2. i was constantly out of ammo and supplies it was pretty brutal.

A big giant tip is that grounded mode is easier than grounded plus mode. Also, if you belly crawl up behind a clicker, it is harder for them to spot you. Best thing to do is belly crawl up behind them when u know they are almost to their stopping point to where they literally stop and screech for a hot minute, once you are in grabbing range, get up and snatch them.

Nice video! Your rage is unmatched tho! So, after playing for the first time on easy mode (yes, call me a chicken), I plan on going Survivor+. If I do well, I might try Grounded, but without the Permadeath option. I also plan on turning off the HUD for a more immersive experience. Maybe someone already mentioned this, but what I find extremely useful is also using infected to fight soldiers in those areas where there's both. Throwing a bottle/brick in enough to have them fighting against each other and you can either hide or sneak away... you save ammo, life and get some enemies killed without moving a thumb :)

Going prone and crawling around is the way in a lot of these encounters on Grounded. Specially around clickers. Upgrade prone movement speed as soon as you can, it helps a lot with the stealth. Also, against stalkers, for Ellie’s Day 2 and Abby’s descent section looking for the mask, I just went straight and dodged them all the way to the “safe” sections, I was stealthy enough throughout my playthrough that I was saving ammo and resources 95% of the time so I could spare scavenging the odd bullet on ocassion. And get used to die. A lot. And during encounters make sure to be on the move the vast majority of the time. The AI and their sheer numbers will pin you down very easily if you remain too passive :)

Rushing (Sprinting for a second and then holding O to dive prone) helps a little bit too with avoiding bullets. Not as helpful if you’re completely surrounded but I dodged a lot of death at Hillcrest doing this. Photo mode can also be used to a certain extent to see where enemies might be hiding. It only helps marginally though.

I have a tip for hillcrest, I don't think it's been covered, but I found it super useful. The second encounter where there is a dog with handler patrolling right in front. Arrow those two, and then the dog and handler further down the street. Then, go around stealth killing, but at a certain point, stealth becomes impossible since they're all in the same area. This is when you make some noise so they start looking. Sprint and disappear into the houses, or wherever. Eventually, they'll say they lost you, Ellie will say something like "okay" or "now what" and you'll notice the game gives you a checkpoint. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work on other areas, since they're not as big. It might work for Santa Barbara and the resort though. Edit: Just wanted to say those dodges against the shed of infected were inhuman. I tried that (before seeing the video) and eventually gave up and tossed a molotov

Tip number 4 where you hid in that small room and waited for everyone to come to you. I did the exact same thing haha! Soon as they stepped foot the room I’d knife or melee them took out a good 5 or 6 guys from that little room. Just before that but there’s a supermarket full of infected I ran in the supermarket got them all chasing me and ran straight into the Wolves. That got rid of the infected and a couple of wolves which was handy lol

My personal tip: Grounded is a marathon, take as much time as you need. For example: in the Resort there are way more enemies than usual, you may run out of bullets, so hide in the grass and use your knife at first, then to lure more enemies use melee weapons that they leave you, they will yell I See Her! and an enemy will look for you and so on.

Used stealth kills at first, but then you get to a point where the enemies dont come out so you have to lure them by shooting once, you will be spotted at first, then kill using melee weapons, you will be spotted again and another enemy will come and so on. So I stayed in the high grass most of the time

Everyone I've seen playing a normal grounded play through actually has ammunition. Grounded+ is basically resourceless. Played all of day one without resources to craft anything other than 1 silencer

I would like to add a cheeky tip - The easiest way for me to kill a shambler is to use an explosive and strike it (If you are playing as ellie after you unlock explosive ammos shooting the shambler with it should stun it and in Abby's part use a pipe bomb to stun it after its stunned just a strike should kill it)

I found that turning on combat accessibility can help you a ton because when I had the invisible while prone on, it made stealth encounters for me much easier while playing through grounded mode because I could hardly get spotted. you still would need to do the melee sections by fighting, but it makes stealth easier.

Awesome tips mate! I’ve just finished the downtown section of Seattle day 1 on grounded and have managed to only fire off one shot to take down a clicker in the courtroom garage. Do i have to be this conservative with saving ammo to survive the later parts? Those clickers are damn near impossible to take down with stealth alone 🤦‍♂️

One thing I found out earlier was that clickers can hear you reloading guns if you’re close to them whether they’re idling or not. I’m not sure if this is meant to happen but I had happened with me.

Adding to your signposting tip: If there is one enemy left they will often speak to themselves when searching for you (so if it's scars they wont be whistling anymore) For instance, if you're in a big area and an emeny finds a dead body... If there are other enemies they will alert them by whistling or saying "got another man down here!" In a loud tone. But if they are alone, they will say quietly "oh no" or "I'm gonna find you" as if they are talking to themselves. Which is really helpful when you are stealthing in a large area like on the way to the hospital. It's helpful to know there is more than one, and when there's just one left you can go ham on the last without worrying about being caught.

I was speedrunning tlou p1 for a few years (not officially) And while I'm not so impressed with the storyline of part 2 I thoroughly enjoy the gameplay. I spend most time playing Ellie% and when I'm tired of that Ill play the Abby portion for a day or so. Im probably gonna post a vid soon of all the funny part 2 glitches I've come across so far. There are so many and they are all loved.

What's more is, you're one of those few who appreciate the different aspects of the game instead of outright saying everything is shit, you're great! @@GweiloRen well it took me some time to get over the hurt that the story caused me lol. I was definitely butt hurt and understand why others are. But there's no need to say people's opinions are invalid no matter how upset you are. I wish more people were able to have different opinions without trying to tear down their personality you know what I mean lol. Anyways, just the other day I came across my all time favorite glitch. I don't think I'll get a better one. Don't feel pressured to watch, only if it interests you. But legit I was at the first bloater encounter on grounded mode permadeath (chapter) and the bloater FROZE. Legit got super close to it and it didn't grab me. Here's a 40 second clip of it kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYatfnp_qqx0kKc The only reason I died was cause the encounter timed out (eventually if you don't get grabbed a runner will get you from behind out of nowhere) Also, I think what caused this to happen was the bloater took damage at the same exact frame it rammed the wall. @@bexxyrae - Yeah, the story was a roller coaster of emotions. I think if anything should be taken from the story, it's don't tear others down because you're hurt yourself. I think the community can apply this to themselves considering a ton of them lashed out at the actors who worked on the game. I also checked out your video, I laughed my ass off. Gave me a jump though when he came out of nowhere to rip your face off ahaha. Left a like too for your efforts :)

I've been contemplating whether do Grounded mode on NG+ or from fresh. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of starting out with all my weapons in hand, but the upgrades sure help a lot, especially faster stealth kills, crafting more shivs and faster healing/crafting. I'm curious, which do you prefer and why? Just so I can make my mind up lol. Edit: I've been playing the first game (remaster, not remake) more lately on NG+ because it doesn't give you your weapons from the beginning and you maintain your upgrades. However, I've also noticed the early game is such a pushover compared to without my upgrades.

When you first come into the area, sneak along to the right side and you'll find a hole in a wall that leads to the hospital. Once in the reception section, sneak up the long wheelchair ramp and use your bow/silenced pistol to eliminate some enemies along the way. Apologies for the late response, Hugo. Hope it helps :)

A messy way to thin the numbers is to go straight for the two that start walking past you to drop off a crate. Stealth kill the first one, then melee kill the second. Run straight towards the boat ahead, pick up the wooden beam and climb up into the mini sniper tower. Kill the guy on top, and then this becomes your vantage point, since there aren't very many ways enemies can get to you. They almost never seem to climb up from the ladder, and only ever climb up from the front. you can take em out with a hit or two of your melee weapon, and then they usually drop their own that you can use against the next guy! When you've killed however many you think is reasonable, or sustained whatever damage, dive into the grass and stealth kill the rest.

Fire and explosives are safest because you can keep your distance. Get a few shotgun hits in and you're golden!

@@mrnapolean1 - Yeah, that's understandable! Great, then I can actually help you out aha. So the section does prefer you to sneak around as Ellie can dodge attacks and pretty much crushes you if you get spotted. However, there's bottles and bricks lying around that you can throw at her (you must be in stealth though) and it will stun her. Giving you a couple seconds to run up and attack her. At one point, she'll place trap mines down which can be detonated by throwing a brick/bottle. Ellie can be stunned this way too if she's close enough to the explosion. Let me know if this works for you and best of luck :)
