Amy Chaffee-Goode I LOVE Protostar. For me, the company really feels like a family. They are so understanding, communicative, and receptive. I have another part-time job, so I’m not fully booked with them, but the days I have open with them are filled with regular classes. And many teachers have full schedules of regular students.

Qkids classes are 28 minutes long. They have 1v1, 1v2, and 1v4 classes. They have fixed 1v1 and rotating 1v1 classes. If it is a 1v1 class you only teach 25 minutes and leave short written feedback. Other than that, you do not do written feedback for the other classes. Also, no secondary rewards. They require a minimum of class availability per week too. Their platform is the best imo! I miss working for them so much. I sadly had to leave them when my children started school because their hours didn't work for me anymore. I hope to one day be able to work for them again. They will always be number 1 in my heart! I currently teach with GGK and VK. GGK is my new main company.

Qkids is the best company!!!! I have been with VIPKID for more than three years and Qkids for two years. I added Q as a back up to VIPKID and it quickly became my #1 company.

Great! There are a lot of negative comments about every company from all sorts of teachers :) VIPKid is just the largest so you are going to hear the most about it. 2 years with them, no complaints and fully booked. The pay is not the greatest anymore but its easy to get hired on with and they are a good company to start with or have as a backup because there are no minimums. I just started at VIP kid a couple weeks ago! It’s my first time teaching online after leaving B&M and I love it. I think I’m gonna stick with VIPKid for now because their curriculum and system is so straightforward it really helps me learn the skill of online teaching, but eventually I’d like to diversify.

Everything you said about qkids is correct but classes are 33 minutes with a 7 minute break in between. This is the main reason why I did not renew my contract with qkids.

Just started with VIPKid and not getting too many bookings, so I would like some options where a company can guarantee a minimum number of bookings:) I had heard of Whales and I may apply with them, but I am really liking what I am seeing with those last two! Meredith, Due to Trump's Executive Order, all USA Teachers will not be compensated for their work after September 20th until or unless the ban against TikTok and Bytedance are lifted. So, if you are from the USA, search for other companies. I'd recommend looking for companies outside of China with the US tensions as they are - at least until after the election!

Hey Tim! I'm curious to hear your thoughts/comparisons about teaching 1-on-1 vs 1-to-many. I've only ever taught 1-on-1 online and so I'm wondering about the pros and cons of teaching 1-to-many. To be honest, it's a little intimidating and definitely outside my comfort zone. But I'm noticing that some of the good ESL companies out there require 1-to-many. Future video topic? :)

Its a fun challenge, honestly I was also intimidated my first time but it's nothing to be worried about. There are a lot of positives with teaching 1:many and if the kids are good talkers, it makes it fun as well.

I have a question about Whales English. I have a TESOL certification and I have been teaching children online for almost 5 years. Does this count? Also, what are the peak hours and are their requirements currently?

Yes, there is a ban on hiring foreign teachers to teach Chinese students online in China. Cambly Kids and Protostar from this video are not based in China so they are still good to apply to.

Yes, they do - in my blogpost I share an image of incentives but its very different than other companies, its like 1 time bonuses for reaching a certain amount of classes taught. OH, they aren't accepting applications?! That's the first I've heard of this....I'll check with my contact person - thank you for sharing!

Hi Karina! Thanks for your comment. You can start with my free download on my website. I recommend a few places for South Africans like Landi English, Cambly, iTutor, iTalki and a couple of others. Do you have a TESOL? You need that to apply to these places and I have a link for one for $19 in my video description.

Hi Denise! Sure, they are much smaller ones. I have some info on my website for Korean companies, its under the blog tab. You can teach students on iTalki and Preply in a different language and there is also Outschool which you can teach what you like and students are mostly in the US.

Hi, Did you pass the application? If so, then yes, you qualify and can teach for them. VIPKid is incredibly diverse but you have to clear the application form which only takes 2 minutes. You must be North American, with a degree and 1+ years of teaching related experience. If you haven't done the demo yet, please add my code (TIM000003) so I can send you my hiring resources.
