I used to live on the central coast (right south of Paso), right near the crash site. I've actually driven by it 100s of times and it's STILL a super dangerous part of the highway out there. There's one lane going each way, but at that specific spot, there are 3 roads that come into the one lane each way. Many, many, many bad accidents happen out there - including one I was in after hitting black ice. It's honestly just a creepy road in general out there.

Sam died in an accident on his way to perform in Laughlin Nevada. I have a place in that area and also in the Ontario California area where he used to perform at the Grove theater . It was on Needles Hwy. Its a dangerous 2 lane road that parallels the Colorado river that leads into the casinos on the Laughlin strip or takes you back to the 40 FWY. Its twists and turns rises and lowers and is very dark as its in the desert. if you get behind a slow car and you usually do its dangerous because people get impatient and want to pass, especially the drunks coming back from laughlin. I heard the 17 year old drunk that hit him brags to this day he killed Sam. He was sentenced to one year of probation and 300 hours of community service.
