The snorkel are for off-road vehicles, not for sedans!
@alexanderscarlett1731
@alexanderscarlett1731 4 жыл бұрын
They are super common around here in Australia as there is a ton of lifted land cruisers and patrols, and it’s honestly strange to see a fully build off-roader without one at this point
@markwright3161
@markwright3161 4 жыл бұрын
@@alexanderscarlett1731 Are they be used for preventing the intake being blocked by dust there? I imagine following someone in the outback would fill the grill with dust but maybe the airflow over the cabin would have the dust flow around a(n) snorkel/A pillar intake. There's a TV show I've seen where trucks are kitted out with them too, 'Outback Truckers'. I've never been to Australia to know first hand.
@Gsr_automotive
@Gsr_automotive 4 жыл бұрын
the first photo he showed had a snorkel but it's not at all what he's talking about. He meant the unicorn intake which is randomly sticking your intake out of the engine bay. I've seen some locals with bmw e30's and old golfs and toyota carinas replace one of the high beams with an intake.

A snorkel ( the thing on 4x4s ) it’s good when u are going off road for any deep bog holes so there is a purpose for snorkels
@reaperreaper5098
@reaperreaper5098 4 жыл бұрын
Snorkels are good for water crossings/flooded trails and roads, reducing intake of airborne dust, act as a CAI (though, many modern vehicles already locate the air box to where it gets cold air anyways), and some snorkels add a prefilter. There are times on road where that is beneficial as well.

@@filmandfirearms in F1 the rules mandate 13 inch I believe. Next year it will be 18 inch if I remember right. However, if you look at more road car like racing classes (eg, GT racing, DTM, LMP1 and 2 and even rally) you'll see a lot more low profile tires.

@@basmeijs6973 The rules do mandate 13 inch wheels now, but they've always run high profile tires. Back in the 80s, some teams were even going as small as 10 inch. Even in modified road car series and the LMP classes, they run pretty big sidewalls

I drive a car carrier and haul all types of cars. The lip guard on the Dodges is actually put there by the factory for car carriers to keep from scratching the lip while loading. The dealerships leave them on to help owners get used to them. I agree it looks ridiculous, but it is what it is.

As long as it's a show car (a car that does not drive on public roads) I won't judge. But as soon as that thing hits the public road you bet your ass that I'm gonna comment on your excessive camber and stretched tires. These mods can be, and often are, a safety hazard. If you die in an accident in a car with these, tough luck, but it's a whole other thing when you kill innocent people who were just minding their business. Impossible? A few years back near where I live a driver in an E36 with huge camber and stretched tires killed a family going on holiday bc one of his tires slipped on the highway, his car spun and rammed into the family's car at 120 km/h. He survived with a broken vertebra, but all 4 passengers (Father, Mother and two Kids) were killed on impact... You can do whatever you want, but as soon as you put someone's life in danger it can not be tolerated.

I remember once hanging around on a forum where they said quite accurately what you said about the camber thing being function over form. I rather drive a riced out car with cheap tacky bullshit taped on that can easily be removed than driving an cambered suspension ricer that you can't even go fast in properly without losing control just because you have not enough tire thread to grip resulting in accidents that is going to be expensive to repair. All this bullshit to look cool by jumping on a trend wagon just everyone who did it before you arrived.

I dont understand extreame camber. Completly ruins cars. Ruins the performance, ruins the condition of the car, ruins the resale value of the car... it just makes no sense to me. If I'm looking to buy a car, Immeditaly stop looking when I see the camber and realize the type of person who owned the car before me. It's just a bad idea to to extreamly camber a vehicle. Slight camber is useful on certain cars for certain situations, my s2k has alight negative camber for corners but that's it
