Don’t miss this episode! In this video, we walk the streets of Kathmandu, Nepal in search of the true taste of Nepali Street Food! We find a variety of foods, snacks, and drinks by just weaving around the bustling city streets. Just when we think we can’t eat anymore, we find another place we “must try.” We go to at least seven places on this self-made food tour. All we did was google the top street foods to try in Nepal, and then we looked on google for places with good reviews. Along the way, we also stop at any place that looks and smells good! When you hit the streets with us, anything goes! We never know what exactly we are getting into, but usually ends with full bellies and a sleeping baby.
We were backpackers before having kids, and luckily we get to continue sharing our love for backpacking with our kids. If you love hiking and want to hike with your kids, Nepal is a great destination for your family.

ABOUT US
We are the Bags Packed Family: Jonathan and Kelly with our three children. We sold our home in Alaska, USA, seven years ago, and headed overseas. We are teachers and found fantastic teaching positions in India. Two years later, we moved to the United Arab Emirates. Three years after that, during the beginning of the pandemic, we made the move to our current teaching jobs in Indonesia. We love traveling and finding adventures as a family. We hope that our travels will inspire and provide our children with the confidence to meet new people, try new foods, and enjoy learning a new language. We hope our vlogs will inspire you to get out and travel, too!

I absolutely love how you never question or judge your kids for any of their choices. You asked for different bowls for each of their tastes. It's so heartwarming to see parents respect their child's choices and also make them reflect and share opinions. Such a huge learning opportunity for them. 🥺❤

@@helloworld4147 Nepalese in the past and even now have hard life, our food philosophy is that we eat to live not live to eat. So story behind typical Nepali food is that its what Nepalese got to eat during hard times so it has sentimental value. Otherwise we have tons of other food recipe that you'll never find in restaurant that taste heavenly, but the ones that are popular (except momo and newari food) are loved by us cuz it reminds of who we are. Remember being a small nation , Nepal is very diverse, each ethnicity has different dishes yet to be explored by foreigners

Use satellite view/ setting of google maps. That way navigation becomes much more realistic and easy. It also helps identify local landmarks much more easily.

I'm so conflicted. I love travel channels, but the majority of the ones I watch are usually single adult men solo traveling. This is my first time seeing a family traveling the way yours does. On one hand, I have a rigid expectation of what is 'good' for a child's upbringing- security, stability, long term stable friendships outside the family with peers, formal education. On the other hand, watching the experiences themselves shows a life experience I've never had, nor nobody I know has ever had, so I have no frame of reference for what a child grows up to be like when they have traveled extensively as children. I figure both lifestyles have pros and cons, and the children seem well adjusted but they aren't my children, not my life. Just interesting to see.

Your insight is quite correct in terms of pros and cons of both lifestyles. We often have conversations about world schooling, while creating security, stability, and long-term friendships for our children. The term is “third culture kids.” Children who grow up outside of their parents culture. We continuously evaluate and make choices that are best for our kids long-term. 😃
