The one overrated thing to me personally is , " elevated emotionalism in general " . I am not saying I dislike emotions .. Thank goodness I own my own personal emotional health .. & can select my own emotional healthy boundaries .. Even though I am not be able to stop what's incoming but I sure can select what's out going from me ... if my personal emotions are elevated it's difficult to select non emotional options . I've discovered what is helpful & effective for me to be able to apply self control is to know & have my own awareness of my own emotional level .. what ever I say or do please understand it's nothing more than a option .. I do not require anyone to select what ever !

I love reading and love having books. I like to actually turn the pages, mark up the parts I like, bend the pages. But I do get rid of books that I don't care for, or if they are overrunning the space.
@sleeplessinchicago9082 Жыл бұрын
The need for certain types of books depends on an individual. I have recently decluttered hundreds of books, including reference books, fiction books, and technical work-related books. Reference books tend to get out of date the second they are published. It is so easy to google the latest details. I read fiction and technical literature (with rare exceptions) online. The books I keep are rare books on subjects I enjoy and that would be next to impossible to get, books on art with exceptional production qualities, and autographed books. One of the overrated categories are kitchen gadgets. Many of them are completely useless; examples: pineapple corer, meet hammer, corn holder, ice cream spoon.

Social media. I only ever had IG and Facebook and I deleted them in 2017. Best decision ever. Twitter and Tik Tok seem like they are full of adults acting like petulant children. Arguing, fighting, temper tantrums. And let's not forget the rampant narcissism. I don't get it. I love books but actual physical books in my hand. I usually thrift them and when I'm done I keep the good ones and donate back the rest.

Facebook! I got off it before the 2020 election because I was sick and tired of all the insulting commentary going back and forth based on one's personal preferences. I also didn't like the friend of a friend suggestions offered by FB. Who do they think they are by asking one friend of mine to become a FB friend of someone else I know. She tried multiple times and I had to apologize to my other friend for her constant requests. He's a very private person and had no need for the barrage of useless happenings from my other friends posts. Too many "friends" I had no use for. It was like there was this contest to see who could accumulate the most amount of friends. I never even bothered to join other social media outlets.

The flimsy lightweight cheap ones they sell are likely terrible. Also I really love hardcover books but I do have a problem where I buy them faster than I can read them. Freebies.... We'd have an employee benefits expo before our annual benefits selections. Each provider would hand out freebies. I'd take the stuff I can use, Post-It Notes, eyeglass repair kits, etc. but would respectfully decline stuff I wouldn't use. Contrast that with a coworker who would get pissed if they didn't get every single free thing offered... I have a box of company branded stuff that was given to employees for various reasons (some of it dating back to the '90s), none of which I've used. I keep looking for other retired colleagues who might want some of it, but I should probably just get rid of it ASAP.

I've never gone on Instagram. I don't think I'm missing anything. I like in person relationships. I like books, but own very few. I borrow them through Libby app (free borrow from your local library). I don't take any 'free things' with ads. I don't own flippers. I pass soft and hard copy books along to standalone free exchange libraries that look like mini houses in people's yards. When I was younger a real book I could own was a wonderful thing. But as an adult, I know I have to manage all my stuff, so I'd rather own less so I have time to do more.
@kalinaluz1106 Жыл бұрын
Josh, it makes so much sense what you said about the books. I could not agree more. For so many generations they were a pedestal of their intellectual value. Now, clothes, phones and followers are the new measure for our existence. What I fear is that with the social media the act of forwarding started to substitute even rob our own creativity. Forward is faster due to lack of time. But is it really the time? Or, we are lazy and see how easy is just to re-send, re-brand, re-make. How many times we hear a remix, see a remake of a movie or read a story retold? On which page of the Neverending story by Michael Ende are we?!

I feel the same way about freebies, especially after having had to do the work of decluttering 30 years' worth of employment-related items from my attic in the past few years. But the same thing goes for "bargains" such as thrift store or discount store purchases. I've always believed in buying high-quality items that will last for years. Most of what you see tossed in the trash in decluttering videos on KZbin is "free" or "bargain" items.

I love reading and I spend hours each day reading. But most of my books are on my Kindle. 1. I don’t have the space for a lot of books. 2. I often switch back and forth between books, having a Kindle allows me to bring lots of books with me simply because I don’t know what I want to read in a few hours. I do own physical books but those are mostly educational ones. In the past, before I bought my Kindle, I’ve given hundreds of books to the library because I either read them or didn’t like them.
