I think the reason why Red Hood stands out the most to me isn't just because he's willing to kill. Despite what Batman says, Jason isn't actually the one who can't control his inner demons. Batman is projecting his own fears that that if he starts, he won't be able to stop. Jason doesn't have that issue. He doesn't just kill every crook he meets. He researches and profiles them before deciding whether it's justifiable to kill or save them. He believes in second chances (e.g., Sparing the life of Suzie Su) but he is analytical, practical and realistic. Jason isn't just willing to kill, he does it in precision and for what he believes is "the greater good". Even Batman said it himself, given time to think, Jason can do anything (sadly though, that was stated negatively).

Jason is willing to kill, but it’s not uncommon for many comic iterations to put this edge to Jason where he starts spiralling into this pit of emotional baggage and torment. He’s the most broken in the bat family and him killing is just making it worse for him. Of course they have to keep resetting the character back to default because comics can’t deviate too far in terms of character arcs.

Idk Tim always seemed like the perfect replacement for Batman. He isn't close to crossing the line like Jason and Damian, ignoring that potential future where he's a killer, and Dick left Batman because he was always somewhat different than Bruce. I always felt that was why he left as Robin, he didn't fully agree with Batman all the time. Unlike Tim who I feel is very similar to Bruce. Edit: But it is true that Tim doesn't want the mantle.

Jason's presumed murder of Felipe Garzonas is another stand out. Its strongly implied that he did it and while it's supposed to act as a takedown of his character by a writer who hated him, ironically it actually made him more sympathetic. Even way before his death arc he was giving a compelling argument for the flaws in Batman's no kill rule. A violent, sadistic serial rapist diplomat's son whose diplomatic immunity makes it impossible for the criminal justice system to punish him for his heinous crimes? Crimes so bad they drove a nice lady to suicide because she'd rather die than face such torture again? Yeah. His victims deserved justice and Jason gave that to them. And since Garzonas got sadistic pleasure from it and had no potential legal consequences as a deterrant, he would inevitably reoffend. Jason also prevented this. Batman fucking sucks at preventing reoffending. The murder also highlighted his strong sense of protectiveness for vulnerable people, and is his first known kill. I hate that Jason is so frequently portrayed as some axe crazy blood knight that loves killing and does it for fun, when he's much more compelling as a character who hates killing, but feels like he has to in order to find justice in an unfair world because Batman's way aint cutting it. We have enough sadist killers like Joker and Zsasz so turning Jason into another one is BORING and i'm sick of it. sorry, rant over. i just feel very passionately about the underused narrative potential of Jason Todd ok

Lets say youre in a situation where the only way to stop the joker from killing a bus load of child prodigies who have found the cure for cancer, (just for the sake of being hyperbolic as possible)is to put a bullet in his brain - and you have a gun and know how to use it safely and accurately - which would be the more ethical choice? To let the bus full of cancer curing children all die in agony and allow the joker to escape, or to save the children and take the joker out in a manner that would likely be an instant, painless death? Personally, in a scenario like that, i'd be inclined to say that failing to kill the joker would be unethical. Is it unethical to kill in order to save your own life or the life of another that is being threatened? I don't think so. Its unethical to kill for pleasure, or to kill brutally in any circumstance (the latter of which even well written Jason is guilty of) - but there are times when killing is the far lesser of two evils. I'm not condoning all of jason's actions across his entire fictional existance - the man has done some very fucked up things! I'm just saying he has so much potential as a foil to batman that is underused. He has a strong counter argument against bruce's fixed morals.

I don't know. Am I the only one who thinks that Dick's most important kill was the Joker? I mean, even if Batman revived him straight away, Dick did go on a rampage to avenge Jason and Tim, as he thought the latter had been killed by the Joker too. For me, that's a pivotal moment, for him, as he couldn't handle it. He was driven by blind rage and it broke him to lose his shit that way. The aftermath showed how compassionate and hard on himself he could be and why he could never really be a killer like Jason or Damian. Even though those two weren't here at the time, it ultimately set him apart from them when they did appear, and showed why he was the best to wear the cowl. It was reinforced later by his reaction to him not stopping Tarantula from killing Blockbuster. It's not that Dick doesn't have blood on his hands that makes him the most compassionate of all the Robins. It's that when he does have blood on his hands, he can't stand the idea of being free and feeling that by killing, he was weak. So for me, that's why it's his most important kill.

But Superman didn’t give into bass urges. Killing Zod was a absolute last resort for him. His heat vision was about to kill a family and sups was pleading for Zod to stop. When Zod goes “never” he makes that call and immediately regrets it. I agree some of Snyder’s handlings of the characters in the future films is a bit problematic but I don’t believe Man Of Steel is the betrayal many say it is.

Jason is saner than batman, he knows what he's talking about. Edit just to get it out of the way: Jason gets sent to Arkham by batman and is released back into society, officially declared sane. So a masked murderer/marksman/martial artist, who was resurrected, field by rage and vengeance, is saner than a vigilante who kills you with medical bills, fine for me, I'm in the UK, our most expensive rooms aren't a hospital.

If I were a DC hero I could never be like batman dark and terrifying 1. There are things i wouldn't do like killing if i didn't have to 2. I'd drive something like the bat car 3. I'm scared of heights so high flying stunts wouldn't be my thing unless I was able to swallow my fears 4. I'm almost a midget so my strength comes from low body attacks I also have martial arts training 5. Unlike batman I would use a gun but have a variety of other deterrents
