thanks everyone, I used acetone...came right off
@mkelley98499 ай бұрын
Acetone is, hands down, the go-to solvent for products like markers. However, be advised that it is extremely volatile in that it evaporates very quickly and is quite flammable as a result. If you're using acetone, always put the lid back on the can immediately after withdrawing some from the can. Also do not allow paper towels or soak rags to be thrown into the trash and then the lid covered. That is a great cause of spontaneous combustion. Better is to drape the rag outdoors over a banister or something horizontal such that the acetone will evaporate and dissipate very quickly, thus minimizing the chance of a fire.

I am almost one year out from my surgery. I don't remember the names of everything but I had two complete tendon tears, the bicep tenodesis and they shaved down the acromion . I am a 64 yo male. My journey with shoulder issues started with a MVA in February of 2017 and after a series of unfortunate events found myself in terrible condition and pain. Everything you have described in this video has been my exact experience. I have had 7 other surgeries and nothing compares to this rotator cuff repair. Take those meds, it’s important. Thanks for sharing about the comparing. My Physical Therapist told me I was so behind, it almost destroyed me as I felt I had been working so hard. I asked the surgeon (whose good hearted). He said, well since she wasn’t here looking at the damage she can’t tell you where you should be. Assured me I was at a good spot and to keep going he’ll tell me if he’s concerned!

The issue of communication between your PT and your surgeon is a problem but I understand both of them are in a business. If your PT is not doing soft tissue work and mobilizations around the shoulder blade then they aren’t helping you progress faster… that will dictate the stress of the Glenohumeral joint and RC.

Thank you for your videos! I had my right shoulder repaired for a supraspinatus full thickness tear and a full avulsion of the infraspinatus on 7/5/23 and your videos helped me prepare for the surgery, the post-surgical care and especially the "what can go wrong" risks. I was 64 at the time of surgery still riding my road bike and doing strength training and my surgeon told me that provided a much better matrix of muscle tissue with which to work in the repair sites. I was still amazed to find so much strength and mass were lost during the first 8 weeks of splinted care. Now, over a year later, I'm back to my full ROM and happily doing my strength training with the right arm back to full strength.

I have had RA my entire adult life. I ended up up having left reverse surgery due to the pain that all of a sudden came to the left shoulder. Prior surgery I was able to lift my left arm all the way up with no problem. I thought I was gonna have to do the right shoulder first. I am now 3 1/2 months post surgery had a severe RA flareup for about three weeks and could hardly function at all, and therefore limited PT exercise at home. I’m fairly diligent about doing exercises because I’ve had other joint replacement and I know the results and I know the importance of exercise. At this point, I cannot wash my hair bring my arm all the way up or do anything on my face or head, style or fix hair. I’ve changed Physical Therapy offices and feel that my new PT is great because she worked in a hospital and has a great background and as you know working in hospital see everything more so then. I would love it if you could list some exercises so I can get over this hump and finally get some normal. I asked my rheumatologist for an order to get an x-ray because sometimes when I pick something up off the ground, I feel a pinching and tightness at the very top of the shoulder . my frustration level is high simply because my muscles are so weak and I can’t turn my arm out when my elbows were in at my side. I hope you read this and I hope you can give some suggestions. I appreciate anything and everything you can provide.

Talked to the surgeon today and did not even know the right questions to ask since I was lucky enough to stay out of ER all my life. Surgery is scheduled in 4 days and I was clueless what to expect. The nerve block i received prior to surgery lasted 72 hours. This combination worked really well ,very little pain. I took ibuprofen during the day ( for breakthrough pain) and oxycodone at night (mainly to help relax while sleeping in the recliner). I did this regimen for about 10 days. At 6 weeks, Im still wearing the sling. More discomfort than pain as the nerves are re-engaging. All in all, MD states i am where he expected me to be ( barely moving but moving)

12 days post op Rotator Cuff repair here. I have two tips. My Number one tip is if you can afford it, get an adjustable bed platform for your bed that raise your head and feet. They have them that can fit in your existing bed frame or flat on a platform type bed. They work with any mattress. You may be able to rent one. Sleeping in a recliner gets very old very fast. With this, you don't need to sleep in a recliner and you will enjoy it long after you are healed. My Number two tip is to buy or rent an ice machine. It circulates ice cold water into a pad that is designed to be secured to your shoulder. It is a lifesaver when it comes to pain management.

Hello. I learned a lot from your video and look forward to watching your others. I'm scheduled for rotator cuff surgery next week. I fell 6 months ago which caused the injury which also broke my wrist. I had surgery on my wrist 3 weeks after the fall where the surgeon used a plate and 8 screws to repair. That is fine but my shoulder continued to hurt w/o them doing anything but x-rays. Nothing broken. Finally had an MRI 3 weeks ago and the damage reads like this...Near complete to complete tear of the distal supraspinatus tendon, Complete tear of the distal subscapularis tendon with associated medial dislocation of the long head biceps tendon. Also small to moderate amount of fluid about the glenohumeral joint and subacromial-subdeltoid bursae.....also mild infraspinatus tendinosis, mild to moderate fatty atrophy of the subcapularis muscle. The same surgeon will do this surgery. My concern is he didn't seem to think this was so bad, but I know he see this alot. To me, this seems huge and I wonder if after all this time , I will heal completely and have better ROM. Thanks for your help.

This brings back memories...Rotatator repair June 23 with bicep repair and bone spur removal. Sleeping on a wedge pillow helped hugely for the first few weeks, there was no way to sleep flat. Also, start therapy right away. I told my PT, she was just as important as the surgeon. If you don't do PT, the surgery is worthless, the body needs to follow the steps to get to the final result. There was a patient who had both knees replaced at the same time and didn't start PT until 2 months later! He was solid hard like cement...had to go under anesthesia for manipulation! It was so sad to see and hear the man's screams...

Hi Doc. Thanks so much for this video. I'm scheduled 10 January for L rotator cuff surgery. I'm a paramedic and over time I've felt "pops" in either shoulder lifting land whales but Motrin, ice, rest and time got things back in check for the most part. Several weeks ago i was in the back of the unit and began to stand up when my partner hit the gas too hard. Slung me against rear doors very hard. Knew immediately i was injured. Ultimately couldn't lift the L arm. MRI revealed complete tear. I now have good ROM and very little pain. Actually feel like strengthening the muscles might do the trick. Am i wrong ? Feel little "pops" in that shoulder regularly now though. Do you think P.T. would solve my problem or is surgery going to be necessary ? I just hate the thought of being out of work 3-4 months. Sorry for rambling but that's my story. Merry Christmas Doc.

Hi David, I suffered the same challenges after my reverse replacement 2 weeks ago. Fortunately I have an adjustable bed and got a pregnancy pillow. Could then sleep on my opposite side and prop my arm with another pillow. Sleep! Also was able to manage pain during the day with Tylenol+ice and only needed narcotics to sleep, which lessens the constipation. I think the antibiotics also contributed to constipation and bloating. Hopefully by now you are well along with full recovery.

First time watching. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise. I had some kind of rotator cuff repair/tear, about 4 weeks ago. The surgeon said my bicep was involved, but that’s all I know. My post surgical pain was off the charts for 2 weeks. At third week, as long as I was fairly still, it was a bit better. Now, at the middle of the 4 weeks, my pain is a bit less. Still though, can only have limited movement. They’re telling me to start physical therapy by next Thursday. I can’t even imagine this. I’m 61, small female with Type1 Osteogenesis Imperfecta. I feel like this bone disease/ collagen disorder, is praying a big role with my recovery and pain. People with OI are very slow to heal and connective tissues are affected. I feel like my doctor isn’t taking these things into consideration. I’m concerned that I’m going to do or not do something that will cause me to lose use of my arm. Not sure what to do.

Hi doc. Here's my question. I am waiting to have a full tear of my subscapular to be repair. Should I be doing any kind of shoulder stretching to reinforce the other tendon, before surgery ? If yes, which one do you recommend so my post surgery has better chance to heal or find it easier to gains strength because of some stretching programme before the surgery. Thanks again doc.
@rotatorcuffexpert Жыл бұрын
Oneom, In general I don't have anyone do strengthening before shoulder surgery. If there is going to be a long delay until surgery I like my patients to keep their shoulder moving so they don't get stiff. As you know stiffness is common after shoulder surgery and makes it harder to recover.

I’m 16 days post surgery for a full thickness RC tear (arthroscopic) and open bicep tenodesis. I’ve been in the sling consistently, as directed, including the abduction pillow. Within the last couple of days, I’ve noticed some discomfort on the inner elbow area, toward the backside of the arm. When I remove the sling for pendulums and stretching, upon letting the arm dangle, there appears to be an oblong pertrusion (assumably a muscle?) at the location of the pain. This area is sensitive to even minor touch, and it feels like it’s being pulled/stretched when the arm is straightened out. Back in the sling, no pulling feeling but the abduction pillow is pushing into the area, causing more pain. Any thoughts on this?

I had a rotator cuff repair in 2015. The pain was tolerable. I refused to take the heavy drug because I didn't like the side effects. The worst for me was PT. It was extremely painful because my arm wouldn't go up. After a few months, I got a cortisone injection which did nothing. My orthopedic decided that I had adhesions and had to have surgery again 6 months later. It worked well. Main thing is, trust your therapist but use your own judgment. Do you therapy at home as prescribed.

I’m on week 6 of 12 of PT twice a week. I’m disheartened at how long the recovery is taking. I mean I’m glad I can touch my left ear now but can’t scrub shampoo on my head and forget clasping a bra. I love my ice machine 10/10 suggest!!!! I still use it religiously after PT especially. It’s baby steps and improving, just saying, I had no idea how awful and slow recovery was going to be.
