Pokémon even pokes fun at how ineffectual the introduction of mongooses was to "control" rats in Hawaii. According to the Pokedex in the Pokémon Sun and Moon games, Yungoos and Gumshoos were introduced to the Alola region to combat the Rattata population, have Rattata as their favorite prey, and are found in all the sames areas you can find Rattata. Problem is, Yungoos and Gumshoos are diurnal, while Rattata and Raticate are nocturnal, so you never actually find both Pokémon in the same place at the same time.

well if he did, he would have to talk about the long lines set by China, Korea, Spain, Italy, and other countries and it would surely be demonitized if not banned. Some of the long lines have 15,000 hooks and are 40 km in length. As a side note, recreational fishermen tag most of the sharks and most of the tag returns come from commercial fisherman. For small coastal sharks in the Atlantic, it is habitat destruction and pollution that most affects recruitment for the brown shark and sand tiger shark.

The best time to look for those jackson or veiled chameleons is at night. They are slightly brighter than the leaves of the trees when illuminated with a strong flashlight. It can take a while to notice the difference in brightness and hue of the greens but once you can tell the difference they can be caught. Hawaii is the perfect example of the irony of invasive species. It is a global hotspot for endemism, for the number and variety of invasive species and for the number of extinctions caused by humans and the organisms they brought with them. The irony is that Hawaii is vastly more biodiverse now than at any time in its existance in terms of genera, families, orders and classes. Also all the "native" species of Hawaii are just other invasive species that have been there longer.
@ianmyers1433 жыл бұрын
Invasive means human introduced. If a species of bird migrates there on its own will, it's not invasive. If a snake gets blown out to sea and lands on an island, it's not invasive (look up bothrops insularis)
@tadblackington16763 жыл бұрын
@@ianmyers143 You are making a distinction with no difference. Ecology doesn't care whether an organism floats to an island on a log or whether people import it. The same rules apply,, if there is an ecological niche for the organism iit will become invasive. And over time a unique native species.
@ianmyers1433 жыл бұрын
@@tadblackington1676 no the definition of an invasive species is a human introduced species. An invasive species cannot become native because they decimate wildlife and destroy ecosystems. Cats are the leading cause of bird mortalities in the us. Nothing kills more birds than cats and they kill for fun. That's the epitome of an invasive species. We brought them out of Egypt and Mesopotamia where they are native to and introduced them to new ecosystems. A hurricane didn't bring them here, people did.
@tadblackington16763 жыл бұрын
@@ianmyers143 You are making a distinction where there is no difference. Take the Great American Interchange as an example. A couple of million years ago the isthmus of Panama finally closed and linked the island continent of South America to the Africa-Eurasian connected North America. The biotas mixed and waves of extinctions swept up and down the continents. But both continents ended up more biodiverse than they had been before. Hawaii is absolutely an example of the same phenomena.
