It helps to compliment people. I try to say something nice about their house, garden, location, etc. Always be nice to their pets or children if they're wandering around. It' doesn't take much, "This sure is a nice place you have here." "Wow, your flowers are beautiful."

These tips are right up my alley. 👍👍 I had a lady give me allllll of her needlepoint, embroidery and quilting books magazines and equipment just because I told her my niece would flip over this stuff. Told her the story about how nobody in our family has ever had the talent until she came along and now it's so incredibly special to receive these family made heirlooms. She was so happy to get them to someone who would appreciate them as much as she did. I never said I was going to give these to my niece, lol... But if she's reading this she can have it all. 👀😆 People love to know their beloved collections will be loved.

I always say good morning and break the ice with a joke. One that I use often before I even get to looking at their items is I'll give a quick broad look back and forth, then say "so where is it?" They look a little confused and ask where is what. The guy up the street says you have cake. Always gets at least a chuckle. Sometimes they say we have donuts. Even if I don't see anything I want, I made someone smile. That's a good thing for humanity. Loving your video's. I watched one earlier today that had me revising my entire store. Speaking of blessing people, the compliments and jokes can make a person's day. Whether we something from people or not, we are spreading joy around while we're out finding inventory. You can tell if the sellers are needing or trying to make money or if they're just trying to get rid of stuff. We don't make them lower the price. We aren't manipulating them. They can choose their prices. We can buy or not. Some people use their own sales techniques on me, too. It's just business.

Profit motive is the driving force behind the free enterprise economy. Buying low to sell high is what it's all about. So if you're at a yard sale and strike a deal through negotiating, then there's no problem especially when a seller can always say no. However, the key is to approach yard sales using the tips you mentioned along with a ton of respect for the seller. I never lead on that I'm a reseller and that my interest is to make a deal so that I can turn around to resell for a profit. I believe that is bad psychology in that it leaves the seller feeling used, vulnerable, and that their "treasures" or junk will not be valued or appreciated. Using this approach has helped me score some great deals while leaving sellers feeling like they too are winners in the game! Just saying...

Love these tips. I practice all of them in some way or other. I've learned to talk to people, and I'm really a shy person, but it helps so much to break the ice. I will often pick up something, ask the price. They tell me the price. I thank them. Look it over again set it down and move on. I'm often willing to pay that price but I don't want them to know that. So I circle back around and pick it up again like it caught my eye a second time and I say would you be willing to take x? Never let on that the item has more then a passing interest. Never make them think you are going to buy it regardless until you've got them down to what you feel is their bottom price. Sometimes people won't budge. Usually they will. But if the price is more than right and the competition is around get it before it's gone.
