Put simply, learning any language is hard because it challenges both your mind (your brain has to construct new cognitive frameworks) and time (it requires sustained, consistent practice).🥰🥰🥰🥰

It extends even further than what's mentioned in the video; "going to" becomes "gonna" which sometimes becomes "gon." Other phrases shorten like this too; "what's up" becomes "sup," "probably" becomes "prolly," etc. This can be especially prominent in AAVE, where a phrase like "ain't even going to" which is 6 syllables, could become pronounced like "ain een gon", which is half as many and both people in the conversation will understand. "Are you" and "did you" can drop the first word and just become "you" so "are you taking out the trash?" could be "you taking out the trash?" There are tons of scenarios like these

English is my native language, but I still find Vanessa's videos interesting, because they make me realize things about my language that I have sort of taken for granted,. And they make me appreciate what a screwy language it can be (one reason is that so many words we use are derived from other languages). I have a TON of respect for anyone who speaks a more logical language who then has to try to learn English.

Hi, Vanessa! 🙋‍♂️ For me, English is one of the easiest language to learn, actually. It has understandable structure, only 2 articles, no problems with cases (hello, Russian learners! 😄) and, most important, huge amount of materials for listening and reading 😎 I think that we all should just speak, without redundant hesitation 😉 Let's learn English together, guys! 🙌

Hi, teacher Vanessa! I think the most difficult part is to understand English when they use the contraction of the words. Two words become one. The best possible solution is exposure to the language by watching English movies with subtitles and listening is also one of the keys. Thank you for sharing your ideas and tips on how to improve my English as a second language here in the Philippines. Looking forward to your more lessons here on KZbin. Just keep it Up.

Vanessa, here's my answer about it: The hardest part of learning English is its pronunciation because there are so many sounds that don't exist in my mother tongue. In English, especially in American English I can find plenty of slangs that can turn out to be very confusing and unheard to my ears. Using phrasal verbs is not my thing to be honest but I have to be prepared and ready to speak English confidently and fearlessly sooner or later. But for everything else, learning English is extremely easy, important and fun which allows us to making friends from all over the world who are learning or boosting their English level because English is the global language nowadays.

Very true for me. It's hard to speak with someone in English, esp in my country where people commonly think that adapting this language is kind of tied to money-richness. So, this irks them a lot, or when they'd hear me speaking in English, they'd make me feel their uncomfortable with it by looking at me, head to foot. But luckily, and really thankfully, I was able to move forward because of your free videos here Ms Vanessa, and other English Teachers here. You guys aren't just my shooting stars, but also my genie in a bottle baby! :) (in the tone of Christina Aguillera's song :) So, thank you so much for making my wish come true!

Merry Christmas to everyone! The most difficult parts of English for me are phrasal verbs and prepositions. You have to learn them by heart. Speaking English on the phone is really challenging! Otherwise, I find English rather easy to learn compared to many other languages for example German or Chinese. Things I really like about English are playful, colorful idioms, and other funny expressions. It is a lot of fun to learn them!

Dear Vanessa, first I wish You and Your family a good start in the year 2022 and furthermore much success in your great work. I try to learn English for some years, but I seldom understand really what is being said. You speak clearly, so I can understand perhaps 70%. For my children, it is not a problem. Reading is a little easier for me. Sometimes, I want to give up. On the other hand, it is a very hard time. I cannot go anywhere without that silly vaccine. So I am sitting all day in front of the computer.

Hi Vanessa. You are correct, English is very difficult because there are many idioms, phrasal verbs (Come Through, Show Up, Set Apart, that you taught us today), reductions, connections. And besides it all, English is not a phonetic language, the way you speak is very different from the way write. What sets english apart from other languages, is its presence in our daily life, with music, movies and series. Thank you for the lesson.

As a non-native speaker, I find English is relatively easy to learn. Other Indo-European languages are all harder in grammar. English is only hard in vocabulary, as it has imported so many words from other languages.
