Only income earned inside Thailand shall be subjected to tax during retirement. Therefore, you will not be obliged to pay any taxes for any income you have earned from overseas. Also, personal income taxes are not required for retirees in Thailand. Note that you can't work in Thailand while on a retirement visa. Social Security benefits for US retirees, for instance, are tax-exempt under the US-Thailand tax treaty. But for pensions, tax treatment depends on the details of each such treaty. In Thailand, pensions received from Thai sources are generally subject to taxation. However, whether pensions received from foreign sources are taxable depends on the specific circumstances and any tax treaties that may exist between Thailand and the pensioner's home country. If there is a tax treaty in place between Thailand and the country where the pension is derived, provisions within the treaty may dictate how the pension income is taxed. Many tax treaties include provisions to prevent double taxation, ensuring that pension income is not taxed twice - once in the source country and again in the recipient's country of residence. It's essential for expatriates receiving pensions in Thailand to consult with a tax professional or advisor familiar with both Thai tax laws and any relevant tax treaties to understand their specific tax obligations and any potential exemptions or relief available.
