As someone that spent all his life snowboarding and just switched to skiing for a new challenge this season, here are my 5 reasons: 1. The intense foot pain of wearing ski boots only makes a person stronger 2. The feeling of elitism you get as you ride by those peasant snowboarders sitting on the snow strapping in at the top of the lift 3. Powder is no longer as fun, meaning you don't yearn for it nearly as much 4. It's fun to poke little holes in the snow with the poles 5. When you're out of control you can knock out a whole family more easily; stopping is less intuitive and you've got 4 tools of destruction instead of 1 But not going to lie, I've been really enjoying learning a new sport! Early season is boring anyway with none of the gnarly runs open

As a skier, that tried snowboarding sometimes, I can tell the big difference is speed. Skiers, face down the mountain naturally, snowboarders do it sideways, almost killing the speed by need. With speed, you pay a big price if things get out of control on skis, making snowboarding a little bit safer I think. Good luck with those skis, remember to learn the braking part first, then, you work your way up. Cheers.

This is why i do skiboarding! No poles, I use snowboard boot - super comfy, shorter skisboards easy to strap behind my backpack. I love the freedom of having the maneuverability of moving around without constantly binded to just a single board. I can do tricks, spin backwards, and with the shorter boards, pose less chance of injury when falling. Ski vs Snowboard - I choose the best of both worlds!

My 5 reasons to switch to snowboarding 1: be on my butt more than my legs, really works the glutes 2: extra vandalism abilities, can help send a message 3: have concern for myself and only myself 4: spend 40 minutes at top of lift to really take in the scenery 5: haveto hike long straights, this can develop the leg muscles even more than sitting down all day Bonus: complain about being banned from ski only resorts, helps the jaw muscle and vocal cords
@HiImMike1442 жыл бұрын
Reasons You Suck At Snowboarding: 1. You are on your butt too much, dont fall 2. Dont Vandalize because you arent strokin poles 3. Learn to stop 4. Get Bindings that are easy to strap in 5. Hold your edge and ride the straight. Bonus: Be Whack.
@vsgaming59332 жыл бұрын
@Jimmy Micheal additional reasons: Talk about how advanced it is at the beginning and how it's fun bc it's a challenge (little do they know its really easy after the first season) Sit down right under rollers to create more obstacles so the sport is more challenging and fun (bonus points for camping for lunch) Say people who ski don't look cool. Therefore, it is inferior and stupid. Don't wear a helmet because what doesn't kill you makes you stronger including getting severe concussions Ruin moguls for everyone else because you got there first, and it's a free country

I grew up in the 80's and 90's skiing an awful lot. Just as a matter of observation, snowboarding was associated with all the less desirable behavior traits at resorts, and directly associated with other behavioral traits off the slopes. The same type of person most likely to find boarding appealing and skiing less appealing was the same kind of person who, off the slopes, would associate with pierced, tatted, tokin', baggy pants wearing, gangy cliquey, rap and hip-hop consuming, dysfunctional groups of youth and young adults. That wasn't the rule across the board, but it was easily recognizable. Oh slope behavior was common from snowboarders: solicitation at the bottom and at the top; camps of boarders butt-down across the slope below rollers or hills not visible from above; nasty ice patches from the wide scraping device under their feet where they could have otherwise simply made a turn or controlled speed before reaching those places; just a lot of sitting around and blocking runs and otherwise being a bother to people who wanted to use a feature or get through a place. I never saw the same patterns with skiers. I will say however, the snowboarding explosion that happened during that era really jump started the skiing sport out of stagnation; shaped skis, twin tips, freestyle, and all the rest.

As a snowboarder who is still practicing on the bunny hills, I draw no interest in skiing after what happened to me as a child, when I took skiing lessons as a child the skiing instructors sucked, they were very rude, bossy, and impatient with me, since then I don't ever want to try skiing again. I've only been snowboarding three times, I started snowboarding last year when I was 24, the first time I went snowboarding, it was very difficult and frustrating however I refused to give up and wanted to keep going, the second time I went snowboarding, it was still hard however I was starting to make some progress and it also started becoming so much fun, the third time with snowboarding, it was just another day of practice with a lot of fun. Also, when I watch snowboarding on TV or on the web, I find it more exciting to watch than skiing.

In all seriousness I really have wondered for a while where this big shift back to skiing came from. Theres was a time in the early 00's it seriously looked like skiing may completely die out. I m not going to lie, I skied as a kid for nearly 10 years and I would never go back, if snowboards suddenly disappeared and were no longer an option I would probably be done with snowsports entirely, or go buy a sled.

Of all the reasons given (and noting the sardonic wit on display here), there is only one drawback skiing has over snowboarding.... the boots. Especially if they're rentals. Nothing can compare to the DVT you get after a long day in those hellacious things. Snowboard boots are luxurious by comparison. I have recently picked up snowboarding, and found my skiing really helped with a quick progression, as well as my years on a skateboard, and I plan to do both (ski/snowboard) for the years to come. Alternate days on each and get the best of both worlds, I say! As has been pointed out ad nauseam... skiing straight off the chairlift (in fact travelling on the chairlift full stop) as well as using poles to move through flat/slow sections draws things back level between the two disciplines IMO. Casual observation here, but why do snowboarders like to sit directly in the middle of a run just beneath a rollover? I see it so often that it just can't be coincidence. I was always taught when learning to ski to approach a rollover on an angle for this very reason, and to this day if I'm moving at speed it still gets me very nervous when approaching any kind of rollover. Everyone, snowboarders and skiers, should just move well out of the way period. As far as elegance goes, each to their own I suppose, but I find the carving by accomplished skiers, especially at speed, a thing of beauty to behold.
