I got my CJO at a 121 two months ago and my class isn’t Feb….so…while the waiting sucks, the schedule flexibility of 121 will definitely make it worthwhile vs NJ’s model. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Justin, as an upcoming pilot from Brazil that’s trying to get himself in the 135 world this is great content to see. Teaching English for pilots here I see this all the time, 135 guys leaving for 121 and the opposite too. Glad to see you’re enjoying yourself a lot more on your new airline. Love the content, keep it up. Cheers from Brazil.

actually I am 38, got accepted to a local regional airliner(in ASIA), however am thinking of not joining in. Finished training- CPL through COVID, and did not get offer at that time. I got married, and expecting a child this month October. Found a stable office job to pay for everything including private loans that amounted during training. I asked myself the somber question of whether I wanted to be pilot for the LOVE of IT, or to PROVIDE for my Family, and the answer in my heart was the latter. So, I will be giving renouncing letter to the airliner prob. this month and focus on what I have and can provide for my family. Cannot leave what is secure for something insecure(min. pay OE training, exam, the airliner going through acqusition ,etc..)

Great video man! I have been following you for about 4 to 5 years now and listening to your podcast watching your stories on Instagram. I never understood how you enjoyed the lifestyle of working seven days on with numerous schedule changes because to me that always rough. Glad to hear you’re in a better position now!

Tbh it just worked so well for my Home life. Having the ability to know my Schedule for a year in advance is hard to beat.

Just came across this video at random. I don't know what the 121's or the like actually mean. Would it help to know who you work for previously or now? I feel, however, you made a good decision.

Hey man! Thanks for the comment. Previously worked for a private company that flies a ton of private jets. Now, I work for one of the biggest US airlines. 121 is the flight rules that US airlines operate under, my previous airline operated how’d 91, 91k and 135 flight rules. Hopefully this helped a bit to clarify!

This was like watching a video of myself in the future. I’ve listened to the podcast for years and have had a lot of similarities is my own career. Those are probably the 5 reasons that I’ll hit submit on the 121 applications that I’ve had filled out for months.

Dude! Thanks for listening and thanks for the comment! Hope you find the job of your dreams and hope it’s 121 lol

Congratulations on escaping NJ. I wish I did what you did 15 years ago, now I’m looking to just retire early and move on with life. What a miserable company and what a wasted career I had

It was a tough decision to make tbh. But, so far I’m pretty happy I made the jump! Hope it calms down some for you at NJ!

Has the retirement age changed in the US to 70 or was that a joke?

Age 70 is for NetJets only. Age 65 applies to the airlines

Hey Justin, Long time listener, first time caller. I heard you tease this on the last episode of the podcast and was very curious about it. I am currently a single/multi-engine commercial pilot with about 500 hours staring across the 1000 hour chasm, trying to figure out which direction I want to go. I have been an A&P for the last 24 years and recently decided that as the kiddos are starting to launch their lives, now might be a good time to start pursuing something different. Given my background, I always thought that I would want to do 91/135 ops, but have recently been persuaded by some mentors to give 121 proper consideration, as I can always go back to 91/135 after I time out at 121. I didn't really realize what sound advice this was until hearing your thoughts here. Thanks for adding some color. At this stage of life, QOL is going to be the primary driver for me, so it was good to hear from someone who has done both now. I think it is very easy from where I am now to get caught up in the romanticized ideas of where I think I want to go, and ignore some of the realities that come along with it. I always look forward to new episodes, and will definitely start checking this content out as well. As far as ideas for other content, I would love to hear more about how you got going, and how you mitigated some of the challenges during the part of the journey than I am in now, and what you might do different knowing what you know now. There seems to be a lot of content for the folks starting out, and for the folks that are currently at the first big milestone of 1500 hours, but little for those of us that are in the middle (other than the endless sea of 20 somethings that scream " Drop everything and go be a CFI"). FWIW, I am considering getting my CFI/I and doing some of that part time, even though I think there could be better quality experience to be had. Survey and Pipeline Patrol come to mind. Anyway, would love to hear your thoughts on all of that. Thanks for the insight and all you do!

I can definitely try and put some content together around that. It’s for sure a tough time in your aviation career, your progressing but still not in the job of your dreams. I know it can be frustrating but try to enjoy it as much as possible. Because there’s a good chance you won’t fly small planes in the future! Really appreciate this comment and you listening!
