Corgis- at least the 3 we have had, consecutively, are AMAZING little dogs. They are so friendly....SO friendly. You WILL be hard pressed to get them to stop nipping. The herding instinct also makes them inclined to chase small animals. We lost our second to DM....it was heartbreaking. We waited a few years and got another. We entertained Shelties, but in the end, the fairy mount is our breed.

My wife and I were Corgi companions (NOTE: I DO NOT claim we were Corgi OWNERS) for 16 years. Bronwyn was a wonderful experience with a lot of quirks! But would I have another Corgi? In a heartbeat! My ambition is that we buy a house next to a working ranch that uses dogs to herd cattle. If the ranch owner agreed, we'd send our furry family member next door to work all day, then play at night -- after brushing and, needs be, bathing her. But I have one piece of advice for potential Corgi companions. Corgis are easily led into mischief. So, whatever you do . . . DON'T LET THEM LISTEN TO THE FAERIES!

@guiovanacazares1882 well I am in the USA so according to ADA rules a service dog is a dog trained with tasks to help manage the owners disability. The dog also needs to be public access trained obviously cause if it is peeing everywhere and barking at strangers you will get kicked out.
@AbbigaleAssay2 ай бұрын
@@guiovanacazares1882so for me the first step was general obedience courses while also getting him socialized and used to being around people/in public (there are dog friendly stores you can practice in and alot of pet stores have obedience training they offer). Once he had his basic obedience down I started teaching him the basics of some tasks that we were gonna build on (like teaching him to boop his nose to me so later it could be incorporated into an alert). Then we went to a training center that also does some task training and got help from the trainers there on how to get him to do certain tasks.

We have a corgi/jack russell mix and she's smart as a whip. Great at hunting mice and rats, and is still a couch potato. However, she will give you the sad eyes for trying to leave the house, while eating and paws you for endless attention. Not a huge cuddler but will occasionally hit us up for them. She's also neighborhood watch and loves to supervise the neighbors throwing away their trash and getting their mail. One day, she hopes to catch a squirrel too. She's already nailed mice, rats, groundhogs, and rabbits. Her bucket list is almost complete. She also is in charge of our resident pittie. Yep, you read that right, she's in charge around here. We adore them both.

We had a pet store corgi for 12.5 years. She was diagnosed with dysplasia during her first vet visit. This little bitch ignored her hips for 11 years until they were too far gone for her to will her way through anymore, and used a wheel cheer for another year and a half. In between, she had zero health problems. These dogs are in charge. Whenever they enter a new environment, they walk in like they own the place, and they will in short order. So smart, alert, and serious, I miss her badly. These are a working breed and need to be stimulated, although they're not hyper by any means. They take themselves very seriously. Great dog for families, as long as young kids are monitored.

If you don't put weight on your corgi's back and don't over-feed it, a corgi can be very safe with its surroundings. Not sure if the title is click-bait or honestly trying to get people to consider the breed properly. I've got a Sheltie, and supposedly has a lot of the negative mentioned here. We don't groom every week, or every 2 weeks, and he still looks great. Exception is knots, which grooming weekly will minimize along with general shedding. Get a shed monster tool instead of a furminator, it has curved teeth which glide along the skin with a minor edge on the inside of the curve instead of a straight cutting blade like the furminator. Most dogs can be trained, but it takes willpower to be consistent to overcome obstinancy. Dogs are social animals, and using 'ignore' can help get them past some bad behaviors as they really, really want to interact with you. I guess attempting to warn people off at the outset might be a useful 'life hack'.

Our family have had corgis all my life from when I was a kid and to date when I helped financially my parents to afford one. As long as you research the breeder and it's a credible one the health issues should be minimal (it helps alot if they have the health history of the parent dogs). Other than that corgis need alot of exercise to be healthy, they can be very stubborn and they do shed alot (they have two coats of hair, inner and outer layer). We never trained our corgis that much just love and basic discipline and I think they're quite easy to handle. And the next statement is very biased: They are the best breed :D

Never heard so much crap. I have owned cardigan corgis for 35 years. I have never had back problems or expensive vet bills. They are known to have PRA and DM years ago but all breeders test before breeding with results negative. As for running away, they are very easy to train and return on command and are a breed that is happy to please people. Yes can malt as any breed does, usually twice a year have total drop of coat and a once a week brush is all that is needed to keep lose fur under control. They adapt to any lifestyle be on a farm or in a unit. They are very much a lap dog if that is your lifestyle. Daily walks can be beneficial but not always needed. As just as happy playing fetch with a ball. All puppies can chew on things, but corgis grow out of it quickly with just saying no and don't usually do again. Corgis in Australia can range in price from $3500 to $7000 depending on the breeder. Wherever this person got his information from, it is incorrect and never owned a corgi

Thank you for sharing your experience with owning Cardigan Corgis for 35 years. It's valuable to hear from someone with such a long history with the breed. It's great to know that your Corgis haven't experienced back problems, and it's commendable that breeders test for genetic conditions like PRA and DM. It's important to note that individual experiences with dog breeds can vary, and while your experience has been positive, others may have different perspectives.

While it's important to emphasize responsible pet ownership, everyone has different motivations for getting a dog. Some people may be drawn to Corgis for their adorable appearance and playful nature, and it's possible they also genuinely love and care for the breed. However, it's crucial to stress that owning a pet goes far beyond social media aesthetics. Corgis, like all dogs, require time, attention, and proper care. Responsible ownership involves meeting their physical and emotional needs, ensuring a healthy and happy life. If someone is considering getting a Corgi, it's essential to do so with a commitment to providing a loving home and meeting all the responsibilities that come with pet ownership. A dog is a lifelong companion, not just an accessory for social media.
