Dragonforce is the one band I know that found a way for marketing to be seen as a bad thing. Disliking this band felt like a trend, like Pokemon or pogs, but it happened. Now others still loathe the band, and well, lets just say that based on some of their reasons...they haven't grown up much.

One of the reasons why they were not so good live is because they got shit faced and the old singer ZP would forget the lyrics and slur his words. Even stumble around. They got much better with their new singer Marc, and they all perform sober now. I'm a fan again. 😃

Coming from a huge DragonForce fan (my fav songs are Valley of the Damned and Cry Thunder) the vocalist is freaking amazing, those high notes are insane. The Guitars are so cool and the drumming is really nice. But the one huge issue i feel is that most of their songs are very very similar. Alot of their songs are too alike in my opinion.

To be honest I don’t care about DF being the Guitar Hero band or whatever, I didn’t even discover them through guitar hero no joke. But DragonForce is my favorite band mainly because I can be in the car and just put in my earbuds and hear all the cool fantasy lyrics they have and I’ll stop thinking about whatever is going on and focus on my powerful music and it gets my imagination going. That might sounds very childish but still I just love all of it. Another one of the big things is the background vocals sounds can give me chills I love it when Marc is singing and then the whole band starts singing a part (example Cry Thunder). But my point is who cares if they are the guitar hero band

This entire list is reasons why I'm not a elitist or picky. I started my metal journey fully in 2014 thanks to this channel. Power metal and death metal really started me off. I expanded into sludge metal, cores and keep expanding. I've heard lyrics that make me think others that make me cringe a bit but fuck it. Dragonforce isn't in my top 10 but I still like them. If I don't like a band I don't listen.

Different vocalists, and Marc's voice really doesn't shine when applied to the music written for/by ZP. He can sound a bit nasal and whiney when singing the older stuff, but the newer stuff written for his voice makes him sound pretty amazing

As a long-time fan, I've seen all this myself. Some of it is reasonable; the rumor about hem being bad live was true once upon a time, but that was mostly because the band were drunk through the set. They cleaned up their act around the end of the ZP era, about 2010, but that argument about them being bad live doesn't fly anymore. On just about every set list they've had, "Valley Of The Damned" has been on there somewhere, usually the closer, and since they got their live shit together that song is always a great performance. And as for the everything-sounds-the-same argument, in my experience, it's usually the people that already don't like them or the music coming in that come to that conclusion, because they've already predetermined that "it's not my style so screw it, it's just noise to me." If you like them, you can hear each song differently. If not, it's noise. Then again, that's how most people go about music.

They're talented musicians, but nothing really stands out. I think the problem is that when I think of Dragonforce I think of Guitar Hero and not them overall as a band. That's how most people view them. The band with that song thst was hard go play on Guitar Hero.

I understand why people don’t like them. A lot of their songs sound similar, they’re cheesy (even for power metal), Marc’s voice can be grating to some people, and the excessive use of sound effects and solos. With that said, people go way too overboard with how much hate they give them, and act like complete shitheads when expressing their opinions about them. I know maturity isn’t to be expected in the metal community, but this gets to a whole new level of ridiculousness.

This is a dead horse topic, to be honest, and would have been more relevant ten years ago. Honestly, I believe the reason for the hate surrounding mainstream rock and metal bands like Dragonforce, Nickelback, Creed ect, is the simple fact that rock music has now been deemed as uncool by the millennial generation, in favor of auto tune, hip hop pop music or light country/pop in the vein of Taylor Swift. We saw this change happening in the mid 2000s which is precisely when we saw these attitudes begin to change as well as what kind of music was illegible for "mainstream music." It's all about Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Eminem, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Flo Rida. These are the artists millennials worship and will NEVER criticize radio music which makes Dragonforce sound super diverse by comparison.

I was obsessed with Dragonforce because of Guitar Hero. I saw them live in Milwaukee back in like 2005/06. They were great. One of the greatest shows me and my brother went to. We still talk about it to this day.

DragonForce was my First Metal Band... I mean back in 2011 (when I started listening to them) The Drums were good but The Guitars were all over the place, But since ZP Left the vocals started having way more variation and Drumming on the latest album (Reaching Into Infinity) is out of this world... And they have balanced so much and their bass and drums have now much more prominent they sound like the perfect transitional band between Power Metal and Melodic Death Metal and also have added Proggy Elements

That comes from the like 2006-2010 era or as some fans label it as "DrunkForce". Basically they were more drunk on stage then the people in the crowd. lol Go listen to a show from 2004 and then to something like Grasspop 2006 and you can see how low they let themselves slip before they picked themselves back up when they had a line-up change. /watch?v=g4lvOOp2XJ0 here is a good clip of my personal favorite Dragonforce era which was basically their pre-IR times. They sounded great! Especially ZP who freaking nailed it on this recording.

DragonForce has always been a band I’ve been fond of, and even tho I heard them through Guitar Hero, I don’t consider them a Guitar Hero Band. I like what they do with their music, especially with how their lyrics take on a medievalish style, and the solos are just kick ass. My favorite song by them, _Soldiers of the Wastelands_, incorporates this nicely It breaks my heart that such a band that goes back to the epic times gets so much undeserved hate

I like Dragonforce...albeit in small doses. Never get tired of Last Journey Home. The best you can say about them is they certainly have a unique sound and can play some god-level music (in the studio at least). Not really surprising they had / have trouble reproducing it live. Maybe they should have worked out alternate arrangements for live shows. Anyway, I definitely give them a thumbs up.

The newer album is probably their best piece of work so far. Edge of the World is pretty epic with the heavy vocals before the solo. I'd say, if they assumed DF was all the same they hadn't heard too much over the years after the Guitar Hero era died down. The pacing of the tracks will always have that design, and some will still feel it is a little cheesy some times, but there is more than just that to the style of the songs. A good solo, or style of singing can sometimes make or break it for me. The covers are good, as well. Gloria was pretty nice, Evil Dead, too.

I'll admit when I first heard DragonForce it was on guitar hero, and checked out a couple of other songs that I downloaded from the network store, I loved them all and decided to check out all their other songs. Been a fan ever since, not sure how some people find it repetitive. Every band has their style for sure. But this band invigorates me and boils my blood, every instrument that plays I can hear throughout each song and its just amazing to me. I will always love DragonForce till I die

Once in a while I just enjoy music with high energy and melody. I've always loved the power metal double bass drum beats ever since Helloween came out, and these guys do that on steroids. I don't care how well they can pull it off live, or how many tricks they used in the studio, it just sounds good to me when I'm in the mood for it. I really only listen to the first two albums though, before they started putting all the Mario noises in the music.

xTWOGPlays and yet, their guitars still sound like guitars and have solid rhythm tones. Pitch shifters aren't used every song, mostly only a few seconds if they use it. The distortion isn't even all that much. Otherwise, even a gate pedal wouldn't fix the neutral noise that 'massive amounts of distortion' create. Delay? Just about 2-3 soft repeats to give some atmosphere to the solo's. You don't want something like power metal to sound like the band plays in a dense closet...

I feel DragonForce is meant for nerds who play RPGs and are tired of orchestral music all the time. Don't get me wrong, I'm a nerd, I like the instrumentals of games but to have some super heavy shredding happening while I play really gets me in the mood to game. Also, their lyrics were never meant to be taken seriously; this is not a band who speaks to your soul but they are a good sounding band you can listen to and just exist and headbang for a bit while you drive. I mean honestly, half of their lyrics sound like dialogue out of an actual RPG; are you guys taking them seriously, cause I'm not. But they're fun! And that is fine. I doubt they are anyone's favorite band but you can still like them.

Actually, the more I listened to DragonForce's first 4 albums, I actually started to notice that all their songs somehow sound the same as each other, with lengthy songs and a lot of filler riffs and solos. It's only when Marc Hudson became their vocalist is when I noticed that they had shorter and non over-compensated songs, and added some variation in their style.

#3/5 - Their music is full of a lot of scales played really fast, nothing particularly novel or original. This is the primary gripe people have, often without being able to articulate it. I was a fan around 2004-2006 but when they released Inhuman Rampage I was unimpressed. I saw them live a couple times after that album dropped and their performance quality went to garbage around that time. #4 - There was a long period of time after they got famous that Herman Li could barely stand up during their live shows he was so trashed. This is probably where this complaint started. I stopped seeing them live because of it. #2/1 - Those are dumb reasons, and I hate Dragonforce.

I really like these guys. Their lyrics aren't meant to be taken seriously, although there's been a little more depth with their last two albums. I've always thought that their songs were catchy and had great guitar parts, and when their songs sound the same, I don't find that to be a bad thing at all. Everyone's different though.

About the mediocrity of their music- it might be a bit overrated by the fans, but with the last 3 albums DF is actually a very good power metal band. It got a lot more mature, songwriting and lyricwriting got much better and they are showing off a little bit less. Are there better power metal bands? Sure, no arguing there that Stratovarius or Galneryus are overall superior in the subgenre. But I would say Dragonforce has their place in top 10 power metal bands that are still active. And they aren't nearly as overrated as Sabaton, Hammerfall, Serenity, Twilight Force or Powerwolf despite DF's bigger audience. I admit that even though I'm a big fan of some of these bands

Aand I regret that I even said a word. I read the comments, people here just hate power metal, not the Dragonforce themselves. 3/4 of your arguments can be said about any power metal band, even the legendary Lost Horizon.

Stratovarius is such an amazing band. You make really good points, DF has really good songs but most of them sound quite similar. Coming from a powermetal fan, they deserve top 10. But do check out these bands; Brothers of metal and Freedom Call

I know both, I had some fun backstage with Freedom Call as they had some technical issues and I was helping them borrow some gear from other bands on a festival :) Chris from Freedom Call asked me to get Primal Alley's (Pathfinder's vocalist) autograph as he didn't speak a word in Polish. Agree with ckn except for one thing. Their material has NOT gotten better over the years. While their new album is better than the couple that preceded it, I doubt they'll ever release anything as good as those first two albums (coincidentally, the stuff before guitar hero)

dom braida I think you misunderstood me. I'm Dragonforce fan. I agreed with his opinions ON the detractors opinions. That is, with the exception of when he says that the band is making the best music of their carrier right now. I doubt that the band will make anything as good as Valley of the Damned or Sonic Firestorm again.

Albert Wesker your right, those are pretty good songs. And the new album is the best since zp left. That being said, I HIGHLY doubt that they'll make anything as good as soldiers of the wasteland, valley of the damned, where dragons rule, fury of the storm, cry of the brave, or just about anything off those first two records ever again.

IMO their best album was Ultra Beatdown. I used to love only the first two at some point, but then I gave other material another chance.

People say the same about Megadeth's live performances, but I saw them in Reading PA last year and they preformed good. I think if you're expecting perfect from a band who's instrumentals are just plain crazy then you might be asking for too much as they are just humans.

Bro why the fuck are people hating on DragonForce? They don't deserve hate, everyone hates them because maybe they their riffs are too fast to even play. And to be honest (I don't hate DragonForce) because I love their music and very insane and fast guitar riffs. Heck even if I had a poster to honor Herman Li and Sam Totman heroic guitar playing fantasy, and glory days poster. I would like to listen to all their songs and I have no hate for them once soever. However these haters need to listen to their songs, the ones we love and like, and the ones we share and listen to with friends and family. DragonForce will still be my favorite band, not to mention, but they have better guitar playing skills, (cause we all know that we are not guitar players who can play fast.) Yep but still much love for DF!

Zp was fucking incredible, irreplaceable you wanna talk about voice of an Angel. He reminds me of Chester bennington, Phil Collins and alot of 80s singers. He knows he does to, lol. I think you were pretty much right on with the hate reasons. Number 1 being how alot of there older material feature the same tempo, but express different emotions if you just listen closely. They have happy songs, sad songs and angry songs, just like every other "modern" band and artists of these dark times.
