Yes sir, you are correct once again. Remember when the Braves were doling out 10 yr deals to young guys like Albies and Acuna? Everyone was like wow that's weird. Not so much right? Great job Kyle. You made my point and all the reasons for doing it make sense. Do the same for Shote. Sign Yates to a 3 yr deal. Etc etc.

Yes! The man can pitch, even if he can’t grow a beard. 😊 I loved what he did in Milwaukee.

The cost of SP is insane right now. Totally agree that an extension to kick off the 2026 season would be ideal. Whole we’re at it… extend PCA at 10/$150 (which is a move the FO should honestly consider now, not wait). He’s our Jackson Chourio
@Rondomino474 күн бұрын
You presented a very convincing case for extending Justin Steele. You also called for extending PCA. The Cubs will Probably HAVE to extend Tucker. AND should the Cubs get Sasaki for a big contract, will the Ricketts family go for all this?
@michaelplowman86743 күн бұрын
The most intelligent thing about extending a guy early on is that you can really get the "discount" on the AAV by paying more in the early years rather than the later years. Steel is set to get about 6.25M in arbitration. If he's just who he's been, those numbers half again or double each of the next 2 years meaning in 2027 he getting 15-20M. He's probably worth 35M per on the open market afterwards with inflation. So an 8 year extension would cost about 200M if you just went with what he could relatively expect. And I wouldn't offer it this year simply because the Cubs want or need to get under the CBT. I'd wait until later on in the year when you could sign a 7 year, 180M.

Like Dwight said, "do it now!"

The type of contract he could command on the open market, I seriously doubt the Cubs do it.

2014 was one hell of a draft. Maybe one of our most successful ever. Kyle Scwarber at the top. Then in the 6th and 7th round, Dylan Cease and Justin Steele. Would love to repeat the success of that draft again. So yes, extend Steele because he is a drafting success story, a good dude, and great pitcher.

I don’t have a problem with a Steele extension, I have a problem with the way Hoyer and Hawkins are all over the map concerning team strategy. Very weird! Contract length, giving no trade in the contracts, not giving the kids a chance because they’re blocked, let the kids play and you’ll create a lower payroll, obviously there are issues with the baseball operations and the budget.

Lets see how PCA does this year like the first half more importantly when the season has been lost the last 2 years if he does great extend him if he struggles id wait
@ANDROID.DAWESOME3 күн бұрын
Offer him his big boat as an extension incentive
@Theebigmike134 күн бұрын
This is the reason why the Braves lock up their stars early and don’t wait until they hit free agency and their price becomes unreasonable.
@davelutter3964 күн бұрын
Not only Steele, but PCA as well.

PCA is more likely going to be a bust than a guy you extend.

Provided they are still in it by August i say you start talking extension...see how close the 2 sides are...but if we crap the bed this season...i maybe inclined to trade him at the deadline to get a haul back because this teammay not be contenders for another aeason or 2 and then we are wasting a golden opportunity. Just the way i feel.

Agreed! But Tom is not a leader
@KevinKucera-p8f3 күн бұрын
Sorry to disagree. The bottom line is Wins. Over the last three years he has averaged eight wins. That’s not worthy of an extension especially with three remaining years of control.
@SetupManCubs3 күн бұрын
@@KevinKucera-p8f I hear ya, but that’s old school. Wins is not the stat to care about today. It’s WAR.

Cubs ain't extending anybody right now...at least not to add to this year's payroll...ain't happening
@nc36594 күн бұрын
No 1. he'll be 30 this summer & it's very risky extending 30-+ starters 2. not a strikeout pitcher 3. on a great staff, he's a 3-4. 3. organization finally turning out pitchers 4. injury risk 5. Cub proven to have great eye for pitching talent to resurrect/groom that doesn't have the same risk as Steele has
@justinnoceda21154 күн бұрын
Good argument but he's a great pitcher he will adapt man he will be just fine career era in the low 3s I'll take my chances on him just my opinion
@JSO184 күн бұрын
His numbers are comparable to Snell and Fried, both of whom are easily aces on most teams (Snell is probably not #1 on the dodgers, but it’s the dodgers). Calling a guy with a 3 ERA over the last two years a 3-4 starter is wild. I cannot think of one team in which he would be a 4, and the only team he would be a 3 on is the Dodgers. You can’t rely on the farm to keep producing pitchers. We have a chance to lock up an elite pitcher on a team friendly deal at a time when pitching contracts are getting crazy big.
@JacobHampton-h4e2 күн бұрын
He is 30. But he is still really young and has time. Wouldn’t cost a bunch.
