Love my Panda and even when it goes to 50k, and it will. I still couldn’t part w/ it. There just isn’t a chronograph on the market that is built this robust yet wears this comfortable, and it looks amazing!

I just got a brand new stickered 11/21 Black Daytona and I love it. I did do 2 trades, added some cash and purchased on the grey Market. I came to the realization that retail will never happen and I will never have a Daytona otherwise. First deal on the grey Market, I feel good about it. Was going to get the white dial but I didn’t like it enough for 5k more and the black wears beautifully. This is the type of Watch you want both the black and white versions!

I traded mine shortly after for the white and am much happier than I was with the black I would go with the white. Black is hard to read and doesn’t feel as Special.

Excellent review of a beautiful, elegant and sporty watch. The Daytona has been one of my all time favorites and I love its sleek lines. If I was ever offered a white panda at list, I would somehow find the $ to own it. But at the grey market insanity, no way ever. (I scratched my Daytona itch with a rose gold PD-1664. Highly recommended!)

Well this watch four months later is at 50K+ and probably moving to 100K. Sadly it’s the best chronograph in the game, and I can honestly say that even though I’ve had ‘higher’ horology pieces, whose movements may be better finished than the Daytona. I can’t say that the actual movements are as built to last or even actuate as nicely, or as slim as the Daytona. I mean an AP is gorgeous to look at, but up until recently they weren’t even built in house, had a modular system, and they’re fragile as hell in comparison to Rolex.

A Daytona, especially stainless is more of a status symbol. The harder it is to obtain, the more exclusive it becomes in our brains. There are other watches on the market that are far more useful. But, like that refrigerator on wheels the Mercedes G wagon, some people love the perceived status that comes with it. A G wagon is probably not the fastest nor the most utilitarian SUV on the market, but it sure gets people looking! Same goes for a Daytona, it’s hard to even read time on it. But most enthusiasts still want one.

For a price of Daytona on gray market starting from 28000$ you can buy a new high horology piece, a perpetual calendar to chose from, you can buy Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph. You can buy a new A. Lange & Sohne piece... List goes on. But at end the point is that buyers of such Rolex overpriced pieces are the people who have extreme excess amount of money, and most of them do not care about horology. From their point of view paying 1000$ or even 50000$ for any item does not make much difference, since on their accounts they have tens of millions. Nevertheless, when you put the price aside, Daytona is overall one of the best chronographs out there.

I don't agree at all, maybe some guy has 100k in his savings and splashes out 28K on a Daytona and justifies it as it will retain value and then starts saving again. People who drive 28 k cars don't have 10s of millions dollars..

@@Translation-in-Malaysia Sure, there are people with 100K savings who will buy Daytona on gray marker, but I believe these are minority of Daytona gray market buyers. Still I could be wrong, this is my impression. Also, to have a 100K savings already tells that person has a deacent income to afford Daytona. But finally. If you are a guy with 30K savings, and you already spent 15K on watches in some average AD, you are legible to get on the waiting list, and you can buy Daytona at retail price. If you need money, you can sell those 15K worth of watches for lets say 10K, and still you would pay 10K less for Daytona than its gray market worth :)

@@Zeeraha Mmmh not sure where you get the idea that spending $15k at the AD will give you the eligibility to eventually get a Daytona via the waiting list - a long shot out. How about spending $200k on random mainly non Rolex pieces before the AD considers you for a Daytona... Sometimes if a Daytona is what you want, then the gray market is what you need to pay, and if you don't think it is worth it then I am sure you will have plenty of choices on other brands.

The white dial 116520 wears larger, than the black, and the opposite applies to the 116500LN, black wears bigger than white. It’s not the best chrono, the screws are a pain. But the design looks great, and it wears well. If it had a glidelock, it would be make it a bit better. I’ve asked for this SS black dial and the WG meteorite at my AD. Time will tell if I get them.

Love both & have owned both, but sold both because they do not have a date. My Sub Date or my Datejust 41 replaced the Daytona great & the Daytona is not worth the mark up now. Great watch at retail. My Speedmaster moon phase replaced the Speedmaster. I know some do not care about a date, but I do.

I'm the opposite from you, I usually go for white dial, but with these I prefer a black dial. Still daytona has never interested me and the white panda ( beaten I guess since it has black eye surrounds ) is really not my jam.

The Yachmaster II and it’s Fly back/fly forward programmable countdown timer is THE KING of the complicated Rolex movements. It’s just so much more interesting and easy to read than the diminutive Daytona. I have owned them all and my YMII still sits at the top of my collection of Rolex models.

@@underachievingwatchcollect1878 I was not a chronograph fan either until I put Zenith El Primero 1969 38mm model on my wrist. It was so much of a perfect fit I had to buy it. At the end, I found out that chronograph function is indeed fun to operate, quite practical when you have one on the wrist instead in the pocket, and it is much more useful than one can think of at first thought.
