My S70 arrived last week about 3 hours before a round of golf. I upgraded from the S62 and have no regrets, it is fantastic. The brighter display is great, allowing me to sell my Galaxy Watch, and making the S70 daily wear.

I ended up buying this about a month ago. I absolutely love it. I play golf about four to five times per week and I only charge this about once per week. In addition, it’s a lot of fun to be able to get home from the course and relive your best shots on the Garmin app, especially when you crush that monster drive down the speed slot so you can text it to all your friends to brag 😂 I ended up getting the CT10 starter pack to put on my putter and wedges since those clubs don’t always register a hit on the watch. So far, that combo has been working great. The sleep feature is pretty awesome as well. Only bad thing is, now my wife wants one. 😂

I have the Shot Scope X5 with tags. For the money it's a great system and the online stats once you upload are outstanding. Just pulled the trigger on the S70 however due to the reliability of Garmin and all the features. With club prompting I'm going to try it out as is and see how it works. Shot Scope is great but the watch does freeze up sometimes, glitch and have to reload the course (unfortunately after I've already tee'd off) as well as I've had a few issues with it's mapping on my home course. Sometimes it won't switch to pin collect or skip that and flip me ahead a hole before i could finish the one I'm on. Very impressed with all the research on the S70 and really can't wait to get it! Thanks for all the real life comments and this video. Seems like I should be happy for years to come with this new bad boy.

I just sent my S70 back. Yes, it's great on the course and for all the reasons you listed regarding lifestyle and overall exercise. But the number one reason it's not the best golf option is the Garmin Golf app. It's terrible. As an Arccos user for the last 3 years I've come to rely on strokes gained analytics to help me analyze and improve my golf game. The Garmin Golf app is basically just a digital scorecard. The way to fix this (if Garmin doesn't want to invest in the Golf app) they should open up the data collected by your watch to allow 3rd party apps to use the super accurate GPS information captured by the watch.

Yeah I really wish they’d expand the app. It’s such a bummer vs arccos. If arccos could get the live map on the watch like garmin and replaceable batteries on the sensors I think I’d switch to it on an Apple Watch pretty quick

the problem i had with arccos is the poor putting stats due to inaccurate pin locations. how good does the iwatch do with setting the pin precisely so the putting stats are actually reliable?

@@clw22580 I enter the pin location manually after the hole. Takes about 30 secs when I get to the next hole. I pace off the distance for the first putt. The automated approach was not useful as you said.

Completely agree as I just sent mine back as well. It still misses too many of the chips compared to Arccos. I have tried using CT10, but I get too many issues when taking out multiple clubs and having to worry about not turning them over by accident vs. focus on golf action ahead.

Worthing noting, if you get the Smart grips rather than sensors, the batteries are removable/changeable.

Great review. I just got my S70 about a week ago and agree with everything you said. The one area that you and others haven't mentioned is how the app experience is... I have previously used Arccos and Shot Scope and assumed post round would be able to see and make corrections and see shot by shot on each hole, not just to the score card. I made a wrong club selection on the watch during my round and didn't want to try to learn the editing features while playing. When I ended / saved the round it appears to have ended my chances of editing mistakes on course other than adjusting scoring, fairways, # of putts. I would love to see you cover how to / post round cleanup desktop view. Thanks 👍🏼 ⛳

It’s very easy to see every shot on each hole, and to correct the wrong club selection. You can e an change where the ball went.

Thanks for a great video - Is the S70 (or any other Garmin product) able to display the stroke index of the hole you are on? We mostly play matchplay, and is seems an obvious thing to have so you can see whether you stroke on a hole, and hence how aggressive/conservative to play vs your opponent. It is the one feature that i feel has been missing from my current and previous Garmin golf watches. Thanks

Two very different use cases. For me personally, I'd go with the watch all day long. The Garmn Z82 is cool. Very high tech. But you end up spending too much time in the device and it can detract from the experience on the course.

Late to the game here. The one thing I can't find is, can the slope, wind options be turned off for tournament play? Pretty sure it can, but this would be a big deal for some of the events I like to play in.

you can add what clubs you used during the round, you don't have to go back in afterwards. It's a setting.

I don’t know for sure. I believe the marq golfer gen 2 will get the updates. I’d be kinda surprised if the epix did, simply because having a few golf specific features to set it apart feels like the smarter move for them

Did you say you need to enter clubs after the round? S60 is after each shot. Also, I've used Arccos for 2 seasons, and while some analytics are cool, the caps stop working, they are annoying in my swing, and miss way too many shots.

Great question, and to be totally honest, probably not. I absolutely love Arccos. To the point where I've been putting my Apple Watch back on just to golf and use Arccos ha. The S70 is hands down the best dedicated golf watch out there. But I'm so engrained and enjoy the Arccos system so much, that on the course, it's my preference.

@@brendenbertrand5646 If that's the case this is absolutely the perfect watch for you, and I wouldn't think twice about it. The only thing to note is that you can get call notifications on it, and accept or decline the call from your watch, but you can't actually use your watch to take the call. That has to be done with your phone.

The health features and customizability are way better on the S70. If you plan to wear it off the course and for other fitness tracking/sleep tracking needs - the S70 is def a step above. On the golf course? While there are certainly upgrades, it isn't quite as noticeable as with other aspects of the watch.

The S70 is leaps and bound above the S62, which I just sold. Biggest S70 upgrade for me was the brighter screen and ability to make it a daily wear watch. There are a ton of advances on the course that make it an all around impressive tool.

was trying to decide between the Apple Ultra / s70 / and the Epix Gen 2.....I think you have leaned me now towards the s70....i ticks all the boxes...would go ultra if their battery life was a week or more...but i golf ALOT so looks like the s70 is for me....great video...cheers from Canada

All 3 excellent choices, just really depends on what your primary purpose is. General functionality, most features, golf secondary? Apple Watch. Golf most important? S70. Golf secondary, and fitness/health primary? Epix Gen 2. I'll be getting my hands on an Epix soon and plan to do a comparison.

After using this watch for the past year I have come across something things that are a bit annoying. I would be curious to hear if others have a workaround or are not impacted by these issues - Firstly, for all golfers are you ideally supposed to be wearing this watch on your target side hand, also known as your golf hand. For those of us who wear gloves, no matter the glove (so far) the main red golf button inevitably get pushed down either kicking you out of the golf mode, putting you into your settings mode (middle button), or asking if you want to power down the watch (middle button long hold). On a typical round of golf I get each one of these issues a half dozen or more times. It is really annoying and is directly caused by the buttons being on the right side of the watch and interacting with the band on your glove. I am very surprised this does not happen to more people, but it happens to me regularly. In my opinion this could have been solved by simply putting the buttons on the left side of the watch face. However, we are stuck with what engineering and R+D has decided. So you have only a couple of options. Wear it on your trail wrist which misses a lot of shot tracking. Put it in lock mode which each time you then use it the watch will need to come out of the lock mode, which is annoying. Or get the programmers at Garmin figure out a way to update the software to avoid some or all of these button depression issues during play. One other, stop cupping your wrist at impact, ok ok... we are amateur golfers, it's going to happen. So, you can see there are some issues here and I don't believe how this got by R+D. I do love this watch and rely on it regularly. If I was to add a bit more there are some other issues that are related to playing and tracking golf shots. You can start to mis-track your shots which will start to screw up your internal caddie recommendation/distances. So for instance if you hit a bad shot and log the club you used it starts to track that lesser yardage. I wish there was a further prompt that might give you a thumbs up or down. Like that shot you hit with your 7 iron did that feel good or bad and then it would start to track your personal feels per shot per club. This again could a be a software adjustment. It needs work, but I will continue to deal with it's flaws, because there still is a lot of goods that come along with it.

haha only you can make that decision! Personally, 51mm seems way too big for me for a golf watch - but that's my preference. If your more focused on health/fitness then get the epix. If you want the absolute best golf info and stats available, then go with the S70.

This is a great smart watch with tons of features but I hate to say this but it’s kinda falling short on the golf end. This watch has been consistently off on its yardages by at least 5 yards when put up against the yardage I get from my laser rangefinder. Even the plays like distance is off by at least that same amount. Maybe there is a software update that will fix this but I just can’t trust it for yardages. It’s great for the shot tracking and smart watch features so at least there’s that.

That is my dilemma as well. I have had Arccos for 3-4 years and I love the stats, but it can be overkill. I have an Apple Watch 7 and if I am gonna use Arccos on Apple Watch I will need to buy the ultra anyway due to battery life. To me the game changer on the S70 is the green contour info.

No, it isn’t a good decision to switch from a powerful, general-purpose smartwatch to a very restrictive product from a niche company. Garmin should port all their software to the Apple Watch ecosystem & get out of the watch hardware business.

Yeah....definitely don't agree with this. Garmin makes some excellent products and for certain people it's a much better fit than the Apple Watch. I still LOVE the Apple Watch, but after using Garmin for a month the fitness/golf features are much more robust.

I am very serious about getting this and replacing my current Galaxy Watch 3. The one thing I am trying to figure out is if ARCCOS would just be a better solution? The problem is - they don't have an android watch app. I love everything this watch seems to offer but I cannot seem to find one review or one thing that clarifies this item for me: Are the CT10's necessary with the S70? If not, how good is the shot tracking compared to ARCCOS? If so, how good is the CT10 compared to ARCCOS? The idea of being able to pull a club out of my bag, take a shot have it auto register (for the most part) is what i love the sound of - along with all the different data I can get. I also love the idea of what the watch has to offer for golf tech, and fitness tech - so I am just looking for this clarity. Any information? @Breaking Eighty

Only if you want the club selection to be automatic. Without the CT10's the watch will ask you what club you used after hitting. You do have to turn this option on.
