I'm a Sydney guy and have been visiting Colombia, with my Colombian partner, for about 20 years now. Mostly in the Eje Cafetero. We're going to spend a couple of months there in July/August there this year to test out how it feels to live there. Our plan is to relocate next year to Quindio where we bought an apartment. Anyway, thanks for your videos which are full of useful observations from the point of view of another Australian.

I’m spending two months in Duitama this summer. Last year I visited Medellin, Guatapė and Bogota. I prefer the smaller towns.

Strange that you Australians want to go there to live...the climate in your country is great plus many other things. Letz talk turkey about why you really want to go there.

Haha yeah, it's pretty good at certain times of the year here, but a lot of the Andean region in Colombia is like autumn or spring year round, which is amazing.

It's very flattering, but, please, don't. Come, visit, enjoy -we're always glad and honored to welcome you-, but don't stay. We don't need gentrification here in Colombia. Besides, some gringos¹ have behaved as if we locals were their servants -they even tell us off for not speaking English or not having their cultural manners-, and that might eventually make us turn a bit hostile. ___________ ¹Not a pejorative word at all.

Trust me, entitled expats in Colombia annoy me probably just as much as they annoy you. As a foreigner, it means that I feel like I have to "prove myself" at times to show that I'm respectful. Regarding gentrification, I'm not knowledgeable enough about the situation in Colombia to give any deep insight (I know there've been issues in Medellin), but I think part of the solution is to encourage expats to live in areas that are unlikely to experience significant growth in international community, and to just generally be discreet. Believe me though, I really do sympathize with the issue. Here in Sydney, we also experience strong gentrification, often due to wealthy investors from China, along with speculative investment among our own wealthy populous.

A problem about living in Colombia would be : eating. The food flat-out sucks, 90% of the meals were bad. I went last year, was astounded how awful the food was, went back just last week and said, Oh yeah. Garbage. How could I forget? I have been to 20 countries, Colombia is the only place with such a track record.

Es muy respetable que no te guste la comida tradicional de acá, porque no eres colombiano. Pero aqui considero que puedes encontrar gran variedad de comida, almorzar pizza si quieres, carnes Angus, comida picante, aqui se encuentra de todo. En todas las ciudades es igual, en los centros comerciales hay plazoletas de comida con mucha variedad y en todo el país la comida es diferente y variada. En la region caribe, hay una influencia arabe muy marcada en la comida y encuentras comida arabe en todas partes. Me parece muy irrespetuoso que te expreses asi de la comida de un pais que no es el tuyo, sobre todo de una persona tan global que ha estado en tantos paises.

A mi me encanta la comida colombiana. Llevo cinco años viviendo aquí. Con cada año que pasa me amaño más y más. Además, como usted dice, abundan otras opciones.

Nuestra hermosa capital... tiene un pedacito de Colombia en todos sus rincones. Soy Caribeña de familia paisa y viví allá muchos años, amo Bogotá, es una ciudad donde encaja toda nuestra diversidad. Por ejemplo, he pasado tiempo en el eje cafetero, inluyendo Armenia, los tres parques (El Parque del Café, La Recuca y Panaca). También he pasado tiempo en Salento, Filandia y otras partes muy pintorescas. También Cartagena, playa de Barú, Islas del Rosario etc. Bucaramanga y entorno, El Parque Gallineral, San Gil etc. También Medellín, El Poblado, Laureles, Envigado y Guatapé. P.D.
