@cwarmann2 жыл бұрын
The muscle memory point is spot on. We had a running gag in the Guitar Hero community that if you took a really long break (weeks or even months) you were suddenly a lot better when you returned. I assume a big part of that was unlearning mistakes you had previously made so many times that they were ingrained. Probably some additional hand fatigue factors in there as well. If you take *too* long of a break though, your skills absolutely atrophy and it's a grind to work back into shape.

100% agree with all these points. I think the problem with a lot folks tryna improve is that they're not approaching this with an athletic mind set, which I can understand as not everyone grows up with an athletic background. But once someone gets that ideology, the sky's the limit. Hell I myself improved tremendously once I started organizing specific workouts every time I go. Along side studying charts just for fun at first, but now I use them as visual training in a sense. My advise to anyone who loves this game (or really anything applicable), learn everything about it. Dissect it. Internalize it. Set yo goals, then crush them bitches 💪🏾💯

What makes me stuck on a certain skill level mostly because I can't keep my play routine at optimal pace (I only play on weekends). Watching charts on KZbin helps me maintain my muscle memory on the game until I can play again. Also I think try not to cheese harder charts may improve your skill level as well. Because you are essentially trying to do charts you can't with your current skillset. While it may gave you the score you want, you didnt get the skillset demanded by the chart. A month ago or two I cheesed Gargoyle Full S20 by bracketing the streams and I got B, while playing with the intended way I only got D. It gave me the score I want, but I still can't do a really long stream.

After putting in some serious effort in exercise and maintaining cardio over a span of 8 months, my weight dropped to 88 kgs (I know it's not much, I love food). Now I can go through most 15s and some 16s after familiarizing the mechanics and techniques of my ultimate nightmares: crossovers and brackets. I'm down to 86kg and I can do some 17s and even got A(broken) in Vaccum S19. My next goals at this time are Allegro Con Fuoco S17 and Wedding Crashers S18. Oh goodness. Wish me luck. I cannot stress enough how #5 hits the most for me. Just as an example. Yesterday i was playing alone when suddenly, the top 3, and i mean the LITERAL TOP 3 in my country came to the same arcade to play. I got a chance to play with them, and i got a chance to pick a song. Now, i am faced with a mental barrier of "should i play the song i know really well to keep up with them, or should i choose a different song but fear getting judged by them" And honestly, key word here is "fear". I fear that if i mess up, they'll judge me. We're talking a RT14 surrounded by RT19's (we're playing Maimai. RT is Rating on how skilled you are, the higher the better). Could you maybe chip in another advice on how not to get nervous or feel fear if this happens again? And, thanks for the video, really appreciate it 🙏

i think that there is also another reason which goes for a lot of bigginers they tend to panick on fast parts and do not try to see the pattern, most songs has a pattern and they just need to look at it closer, but most people see it as just mashing your keyboard resulting in spamming and make them have a thinking that they aren't good enough

Hey Seth, I'm Miles from Twitch, This video is a very useful tool for a lot of players that are just starting out, especially not playing one song over and over, most of the times i went to play ITG i give myself only one try at each song i picked and that was it, this along with other tricks and a good form helped a lot and got me from easy charts to 13 blocks charts on ITG in just over a year, unfortunately all of that came to an obrupt end the day i moved to a new city.. studying charts on KZbin or just put autoplay on OpenITG sounds like a good way to study charts and i'm definitely giving it a try! (once i find, or buy, a good machine, that is)

something else i think that is important that didn't get mentioned is that it is definitely ok to take breaks for a few days, it can even help sometimes too in my experience trying to push yourself past your limits while being in pain can stop you playing for years at a time, so taking breaks is key! sometimes having a break will allow you to come back stronger also

Another reason is not playing on stricter timings. Playing stricter timings will help you develop new muscle memory to hit more accurately because of the stricter timings. Not doing this will make your accuracy stay the same longer and thus not improve. I play Quaver and i use its adjustibale timing windows, mainly Impossible which reduces marv timing to 8 ms and perfects to 20. For comparison its standard timing (which is the one used for ranking) has 18 ms for marvs and 43 for perfects. Its a really good thing to know, really.

I also wanna add: "You're playing too much in one session" Burnout is definitely a thing and while it's important to practice regularly, it's also important to take breaks and know when one has had their fill for the day. ("Practice smart, not hard") Excessive playing in one session, even games that aren't high-calorie, can be mentally draining and lead to more mistakes the longer one keeps playing.

Number 5 hits me very hard man!!! But I think it is both a good and bad thing depending on how you look at it. . It's bad when you just keep doing it to show off to the crowds with the songs you're comfortable with without any new difficulties and song charts. The same steps you've done hundreds of time with no difficulties. Most of the time, it is a waste of tokens if you're in the arcade. But man, we just like attention sometimes, don't we? Haha I think it's okay if you're just relaxing and don't have anything particular in mind. Show off all you want! . It's good when you have a mindset like "what if I can show off a much harder song to them?" and decide to challenge yourself to the crowds with completely new songs with new difficulties you've never tried before. Don't worry about failing, the crowds mostly don't even mind about that. Heck some of them just want to watch you for the fun of it. This is a good opportunity to take new challenges and go with higher difficulties, because I believe it is more satisfying to show off to the crowds with a performance you've never done before instead of doing a performance you've already mastered. Just say you're tired and exhausted if you fail to perform lol the crowd would surely understand you with all the crazy steps done!!!! Nice video man, very good tips!!!! Rhythm gamer forever!!!!

One reason I progressed at a high rate with pop’n music was because of the fact that the cs versions had training mode. This allowed me to work on tricky parts to songs that I couldn’t pass. Just watching KZbin videos isn’t going to allow you to actually work on building your ability. When I’m playing pump, I’m supposed to figure it out instantly whenever I see not patterns I I can’t properly do yet. That’s like telling someone who can’t drive to drive on the freeway and to make mistakes. There has to be a better way! Edit: last time I checked these games are about the music. I hate pop music and I will not touch these songs. I just smash arrows to music I like. I’m not going to play bad songs just to be some kind of completionist.

Something that seems to be really important to me personally, is to take days off from the game. Sometimes life just gets in the way or I start feeling burnt out so I take some days off. But even on the weeks where I'm enjoying whatever game it is, and I'm doing well...I'll force myself to take a couple of days off from the game. For whatever reason, most of the time when I come back to the game after a break, I see improvements.

I'm ok at watching charts, it's just getting my feet to catch up with my brain 😢 I deciphered a lot of how to play heavy/expert through controller. That came with it's obvious downside of me giving up the pad and basically dumping dancing games for years because they got "boring." I'm making a promise to myself to at least pass all my old DDR games with my replacement pad, even practicing in training mode...and if I'm still desperate, I'll look up a chart on KZbin. Anything to keep me away from that damned controller lol

2+3 are big killers and you need #3 to overcome #2 in a lot of cases. Gonna use my SDVX session from the other day as an example: I was going for a clear on On Take Sun MXM. After the 3rd time track crashing it, I went to the notechart site sdvx.in to look at where I was starting to let lasers go off track and why and also to learn the rhythm of the alternating chord holds for M49-55, and I stopped trying to use right hand for buttons and left hand for knobs on M89-93 since it does not allow enough time to reach over to the other knob in time. Just from looking at a static upload of the chart, I stopped making bad decisions with my approach and hit long notes with intention instead of mindlessly slapping them and losing what should've been free gauge gain.

Thank you for making this video. Now I'm getting my consciousness back to improve myself and follow your instruction. ------------------- (I just want to share my experience XD) My problems are all except #3. 1. I'm stuck at K-pop songs since I know almost all of them, so I can catch the rhythm well. And 'this' links to #5 as well. 2. It's not that I play the same chart over and over, but I kept playing same 'group' of favorite charts to the point that I made more mistake every time. 4. I did have goals, but somehow I didn't care about it and just mess around. I planned to start over when the XX first launched in my country and get specific amount of S, SS, or SSS in the specific level, then climbing up level by level. But here I am, playing around. 5. I know most people likes K-pop, so I played a lot of K-pop to attract people.(I can play lv18 at max) Sometimes it's not K-pop, but songs that I'm confident to show others.

What helped me was first watching a vid of someone do one of the hardest levels in the game and then analyze it. Then u play it. It may take much frustration and time but after i mastered that level after some days i noticed a huge increase of my rhythm. Really wort a try.

This video could be re titled as "HappyF33tz knows you better than you know yourself" and I'd be fine with it.

a personal one for me and maybe it might be usefull for others is, especially with ddr (or high body movement rhythm games ) is to get in shape. It might be obvious but its hard for a just over 250 pound (5"7) individual to try and to standard/difficult songs on ddr whilst carrying that much weight around. I do ddr for mfun mostly but for people who want to get into it competitively, make sure you have a high enough stamina, most of the time your out of shape and that leads to lack there of. just thought i'd share this. i know it wouldnt fit in your video as your's were universal and all.
oh yes.... playing the same songs over so many people like doing this and branching songs sometimes I'm nervous

For me, I used the crowd as my drive. Yeah, I kinda started cuz I loved the attention. Doing spins on Pump always impressed the crowd. Then I met the other rhythm gamers who were way better than me. I drove myself, not only getting people’s attention, but trying to SSS or AAA. Now it’s both for me, I wanna see myself improve with better scores and attention from random people walking by. It’s like performances, you want to get the loudest cheers and the biggest audience. Of course, S19s are hard for me, but seeing that crowd of 10 people makes me smile, and seeing that A on that chart makes me smile more.

My goals for rhythm games are simple: Just try to have fun. Unfortunately, I rarely land my goal thanks to the genre demanding a precision and speed that I lack plus my fear of being seen as a failure causing me to mess up more often than not.

Either you mess everything up when one person is watching you or you just get 100% accuracy

My tip of advise, would be to keep playing until you get hand cramps. Take a long break (sometimes up to 6 hours) and you will come back like you are on god mode lol. I went from playing Endymion normal mode to illusion of conflict Hard on Quaver. In just a day! :O

I hate when people because when they do I start to mess up even what it is a chart that I am good at but sometimes when like a friend or family member watches I do not mind

This maybe a stupid reason but, prepare for your big sesions! Bring you water and if you are in your home and playing ddr or piu bring a fan to keep you cool! Also stay hydrated and avoid play whit contact lens, your vision will be tired in a matter of minutes

Ya tks for your advice, I will think of playing other track than just grinding on Noel in muse dash with one hand right now, it's now hopeless to me, i will think of practicing other pattern before getting a revenge xD

Damn. I started to pick up some of these habits recently. Number 5. I don't care to impress the audience since the past year and half. I even play charts that I may stop moving because I can't understand charts in front of audience and they will normally walk away. I normally play lvl 15 - 18 as warm up songs and they are impressed by that. 🙃

Good on you in regards to #5, too many players in rhythm games are afraid to show error in front of people. It's okay to make mistakes, we all make them and you grow by learning from those mistakes!

Ok, I'm no rhythm game expert, but I spent three days playing beat saber on expert plus mode with real sticks to beat some demons, and what I found out was, I became extremely smooth in doing whatever movements I was doing, because I did it over and over again, but I had to use shadow memory to get that smoothness and speed.

what
@emmanuellopez34714 жыл бұрын
@@despacito311 In fighting there's this thing known as shadow boxing. Where you imagine your opponent doing a move and then you react to it. There are better and worse ways to react to a certain situation. When there was an incredibly fast progression of notes, I found there were several different ways of hitting them, even thought the notes were the same. I could hold the sticks close to my chest. I could move my arms instead of my wrists, I could use my hips and move my entire body to hit those notes. There was a great possibility of things. When muscle fatigue combined with repetition, and a little bit of meditation and reflection, allowed me to hit some incredibly hard note progressions. The muscle fatigue made me slow and tired and forced me to find the most efficient way of moving. The repetition allowed me to refine those movements over and over, and gave me knowledge and foresight to know what comes next. The rest and meditation allowed me to easier put two and two together, and synchronize my body for the next trial. I was fighting some demons, actually.

I'm flattered... Usually my crowds gather on their own though, as shown in my video. I wasn't trying to impress them. I hate crowds and people in general when I am playing DDR lol. I have a lot of counter-measures for most of these. For example, I like to go over stepmania and just play several of the charts in DDR and just try to memorize them. Usually I record myself and upload them as well, which helps me see the sections I messed up (usually patterns and speed), and just go over them. That's something I recommend for players who are struggling. These are fair points though, so nice job.
@happyf333tz5 жыл бұрын
Your video was not used to call you out as a player, just to show a crowd since that was the topic. There is a huge difference between playing and naturally having a crowd behind you vs you knowing there is a crowd and you start to focus on entertaining the crowd, rather than focusing on your goals in your session. Memorizing charts is a skill that is great to have, but is completely different when talking about playing charts that you are making mistakes on and building bad muscle memory on. Memorizing charts can only be done if you are very comfortable with the chart and it is a very different skill set.

@@happyf333tz That's true. I didn't take into consideration of the other games too actually, not just DDR! I've only been playing DDR for the most part, but I'm thinking of getting into PIU now that the Ace machine isn't exactly doing well in my location...

1. I have the memory and attention span of a flea 2. I practice so much and fail so much I end up hating the song when I first loved it 3. I have little control and patience causing me to act like Markiplier when he played getting over it 4. I cannot handle one person looking at me or I will instantly fail
