We had our girl Poppy for 6 years. Sadly we lost her 2 1/2 years ago and miss her so very much. She was the most magnificent girl ever and everything you spoke about is true. They’re an adorable breed who needs space. They’re laid back, sleep lots but don’t like to be left alone for long, our girl didn’t. If you want a drooly, big, hair shedding, eats lots and an adorable fur baby who doesn’t need a great deal of exercise and will love you for always, then this is the dog for you. Remember, big dog, potentially big vet bills so get a good lifetime policy. One day we’ll have another saint, that day will be when my heart no longer hurts for our girl x

My 10 year old Saint Bernard, Cheetah (my daughter picked the name 😂), is a horrible watch dog. Locked myself out and had to go headfirst through a basement window and knock drywall out of the way. I managed to get in and looked for her, she slept through the whole thing haha once she felt me walk by she jumped up with fur on the one side of her face still smushed from laying on her side. But I’ve had a GSD, a golden retriever , and our Saint Bernard is the most gentle, lazy, docile dog you’ll ever meet. She’s never got mad, got beat up by our cat and a neighbors chihuahua, and yet she slept and guarded the kittens more than the mother cat. She has not an ounce of aggression. But SUPER sensitive. Smarter than most dogs but not in a “tricks” type way.Definitely not treat motivated. She wants touch/praise, if she thinks you’re mad then she sulks and is shattered. Will do anything you ask, mostly they won’t fight it like other dogs. Like when she gets a bath she looks like a big depressed bear.

My happy Saint Bernard is three, and about 180 pounds. His daddy is 220 pounds... and Bear was actually the smallest of the litter. He is very sweet, absolutely loves children, and his daily walkies. You are correct, one need not scold a Saint, they are crushed when they sense your disappointment.

I had 2 Saints--Jazper and FiggyPuddin. They are absolute angels!! My mom had a massive stroke and my Saint was so kind, gentle and loving with my mother, it was incredible. They both trained easily, although they were both spoiled to death (as I believe all animals should be). I did read that a Saints spirit can be broken very easily if you yell at them or punish them, so please don't do that--there's no need!! A loving "no" is all it takes for them to behave, followed by lots of hugs and kisses. Best breed ever and I miss them both with all of my heart ❤️❤️❤️

I think then you should give him a lot calcium so that his bones should be strong enough to carry so much weight
