I work for the Forest Service up at Mt St Helens. Our employee housing has metal roofing. In winter, snow is CONSTANTLY falling off the roof and we have to dig out again. Aside from being a nuisance, it’s damaged the decks quite badly, we have to cover the sliding doors so the snow doesn’t pile up and break the glass… and sometimes the battens come off with the slabs. I’ve been trying to think of ways to fix all that… didn’t realize there was a whole industry around it. Definitely gonna be showing my coworkers and bosses this and see if we can get something set up.

Snow slides/avalanches really can be a nuisance up there in snow country. It definitely sounds like our snow retention systems would be a great solution to your problem. We have several different snow retention systems for standing seam as well as exposed fastened roofs and the Snow Calculator on our website, www.S-5.com, will help to engineer the system to your roof conditions and loads. If you have any questions our need assistance with picking out or designing the proper system for your roof please reach out to us at support@s-5.com

is there a good heat tape for metal roofing? not sure I want all that weight hold up on top of my roof either.
@TheMetalRoofingAcademy3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! Heat tape is often used in conjunction with our snow retention systems. The snow retention will safely hold the snow in place while the heat tape melts it away. S-5! dose not produce or endorse any specific type or brand of heat tape but the experts over at Radiant Solutions below can provide you with anything you need. I need something before the South Dakota snow buildup above my front door slides off and kills someone. Our blizzard last week left 3 fit of snow in valley, dormer and transition to second story all the way up to peek. It warmed up and it all cam down with such force it cracked my 3 1/2 inch concrete porch. I am however concerned that usually in December the temps stay frozen until March or even April. The concern is if it keeps it up there to well then my roof may collapse. Please help me.

For standing seam, how do you decide between bars and rows of staggered single deflectors?

Yes snow avalanches are very CREEPY and account for deaths, injury, and property damage every year. That is why properly engineered snow retention systems are so important. For information on how to properly engineer and install our systems on metal roofs, please visit our site at www.s-5.com or reach out to us at support@s-5.com
