Gergous car and loving that blue. These older Porsche’s just grow on me……..loving my 991.1, but to drive that north from Scottsdale, AZ into the mountains north would be a drive of a lifetime.

@@Rennthusiast Thank you for your reply, greatly appreciated. In all honesty, I am an avid petrol head, currently riding the bus. So, not in the market for a 911 any time soon. However, you never know, right? In the mean time, for the life of me I can't remember how I came across your work. What I really do know is I enjoy your calm, 'laidback' presentation style and your very informative and fun way of making videos about these special, Porsche sportscars. Sure hope this helps you out a bit. Looking foward to more and thank you again, much enjoyment and fun! Great scenery aswell :)

I have a 1970 911T Targa Hot Rod that Zuf in Monroe and Black Forest Racing helped me build over the years. I work overseas so I would let them take the car and make suggestions and add crazy stuff each trip. Now there isn't much left for me to consider. This car was bought new in our family and it only has 55k miles. I like my 996 too but this old 1970 Hot Rod will always be my favorite. I live in NC and haven't really met many long hood folks. Only a couple RGruppe Treffens in VA.. would be nice to find a group to meet occasionally. I am near Sanford, NC. In Saudi now...

I have the same as you a highly modified 69 911T. R look with a short stroke 2.7, and custom short ratio gearbox with wavetrac diff. Last time I weighed it it was at 1890 lbs with 245 horsepower. I also have a 98 993, that I have put the Bilstien PSS10 suspension, lowered to Euro RS ride height, and custom 18” BBS E88 wheels. The 69 is dangerous, with all the fiberglass, light weight, I’ve never really pushed it, as I’m afraid it would get away from me. I have a friend who is a much more experienced driver with high powered early cars. He has opened it wide up, while I was in the passenger seat. Scared the hell out of me.

The most popular Porsche in my country is Cayenne of all generations. We got no roads, and that's why possibility of meeting 911 or even Boxster comes to zero. But then again, every classic Porsche looks like masterpiece. Even if it's got liquid cooling. In my opinion, the most beautiful 911 is from first generation like this blue one on the video, then goes 930 and 964. Maybe one day I'd buy one of it just as weekend car. I'd use it only at summer, when its not raining.

Hotrod.... a typical American term, rarely used in the rest of the world. I think most of the listed mods are considered nothing more than a slight modification on this side of the ocean.

From your experience, at what point does someone in the P-Car community sell their newer water cooled Porsches for one of these beautiful air cooled models? I'm asking since i have a 2022 718 Cayman GTS 4.0L (which i love) & it'll be practically impossible to keep both.
@Rennthusiast
@Rennthusiast Жыл бұрын
I started with a 997.2 C4S, which I kept for maybe a year before moving into a 993. Once that happened I was all in on air cooled Porsches for the nostalgia and the driving experience. Air cooled has really held most of my attention for the past few years…but I did just pick up a 981 Cayman S, so I’m not only about the older cars. If possible, go drive an earlier 911 and see if it clicks for you.

How much more analogue would you describe your long hood over your prev 1986 3.2? Thanks.
@Rennthusiast
@Rennthusiast Жыл бұрын
Way more analog. Lighter weight, way louder - not just a loud exhaust and motor but also you can hear the gearbox, road noise and torsion bar flexing as you go over road imperfections, at least at low speed. The car really feels like a body, pedals, a gear shifter, motor and a steering wheel. Nothing else. Thing is a screamer. But remember, mine is hot rodded pretty hard. 2.8 MFI motor, meaner exhaust and really no sound deadening. I have never driven a stock long hood so I can’t speak to that with any real experience so I won’t speculate.

Counterpoint. Don't mess up your classic early 911! Unless you really race or track. There's so few unmolested ones left. Don't put on turbo flares and the whale tail. Don't do that V8 swap. Just don't. Enjoy the experience that the designer intended because that is the essence. Anything else is derivative. It may even be better but it's no longer original. The value of the car will reflect this. There is no substitute. When I was younger I wanted the slant nose turbo look and almost savaged my 1966 911. Now when I look at the classic curves everything is just so correct and I am really thankful for not messing with perfection. Someday it may have Tesla guts if they make me, but it's always going to be true to form. Much cheaper and faster cars can be had to beat on like the 370z,s2000, Rsx type s,m3,evo and wrx. Audi quattro too, the old ones. Leave the cool old Porsches for the museum and the day in the mountains.

Candidly I don’t know much about the 912, but from a body and shape perspective, it’s more of a “mid year” vs an early car.

The early cars hadn’t been hit with the impact bumper requirements. This is the key difference. I know 2 different guys with 912’s. They both love them. One of them literally drives his all over the country to different rallyes.

Don't discount the 912 either, especially the early short wheelbase models. The inherent superior weight distribution means the 912 stands on its own merits - a lot of collectors who can afford both prefer the 912.

How about a 912 with a 3.0 or a 3.2 dropped into it?
@verdict1163

@@Rennthusiast That would take away what makes the 912 special--its superior weight distribution and handling--so not for me. 912s are easy to drive at the limit, very different from an early 911.

Enjoyed your last video. Im building a Hot Rod 911 on my channel now. I get a lot of Porsche owners upset at me for messing up a classic Porsche . I’m a Professional hot rod Car builder by trade and just got the old school 911 of my teenage dreams. I just want to make it my own. As a new Porsche owner I’ve learned a lot watching your videos. Would love to pick your brain on some do’s and don’t . At the moment I’m needing tire size choices for 15” x7 and 8 with rear SC flares and a good how to do a euro stance . I’ll keep watching and please check out my channel. Thanks
