This insane 1969 Porsche 911T with a 2.8 MFI engine is the very definition of "Classic Porsche 911 modified"...so why would I go even deeper and drop the motor right after buying it?
Watch this video and find out.
In this video we'll take you through the final few steps we're taking to make this already great '69 911 Hot Rod into a phenomenal classic Porsche 911 modified needing absolutely nothing.

Looks like you have lots of items to reveal - seats, wheels, etc. Can't wait. In terms of the seat, I have to admit that those reclining seats from Lemans were pretty sweet. To be fair I'm a faller guy so the idea of reclining that back seems to be the better choice. To be fair part 2 I am not a porsche purest. I prioritize comfort over being period correct.

I also have a 1969 911T and I put the RS Touring fixed back seats in it. I love them. I'm 6'4" tall though so I built my own mounts for them. They don't slide forward and back but I was able to drop them down a couple of inches and I built in the amount of recline I like. They are set up just for me and they are perfect. I really don't plan on letting anybody else drive the car anyway so it doesn't matter if they slide. The lower mounts make you feel like you're "planted" more in the car too. I used to drive stock cars so all my race cars had custom mounted seats. If I ever sell the car then someone else can re-drill the location holes in less than an hour. I also have an '86 911 with stock leather seats and the lower seating position in my '69 is much better. It makes you feel more like you're a part of the car not to mention they're safer too.

Nice review, sorry to hear about your gear bag, that stinks. Can’t wait to see which way you go on the seats and the “wheel reveal”. FWIW, I have the exact same seats that you currently have, in my ‘82. For me, they work great and I had them re-covered when I re-did my whole interior. I really like them, but I look forward to seeing which way you decide to go. Keep up the great content, I always look forward to a new video.

The car is coming along awesome and I can tell Eric knows his stuff. I do think the fixback seat looks the best. If you plan on putting on a lot of miles get the seat that fits you the best, and is the most comfortable. Only issue I have is with that shifter mechanism base and standard hardware. That shifter would look so much better with a billet custom powder coating base enclosure cover with titanium mounting hardware. Another option custom fabric shifter boot cover that will match your new seats.

Great car. Proper mods to dial it in. Like you, I prefer reclining seats, but I also occasionally use the rear jump seats too. So they are a bit more convenient. If the car had a cage, I might consider fixed seats.

With all those sweet internals why not go the extra mile and do a full EFI, coil on plug ignition, with a modern ECU (i.e. Link or Haltech)? Did it on my 60s Beetle and the tune-ability and throttle response is amazing

Scott, I am a huge fan of EFI and run it on my car and many customer cars. HOWEVER, a hotrod MFI car is not only period correct, but MFI makes noises and delivers performance that is hard to replicate. We will eventually ITB/EFI Will's 86, but this car has killer MFI done by Gus and its "just right"

Twin plug is a down-the-line thing. It tests perfectly and runs really well as is. The Crank Trigger ignition will allow us to to deliver a more precise spark with a longer duration and should prevent detonation and allow will to get years of tire shredding out of this mill.

I like hearing what you are doing on the car. Neat mods. You don't have to answer since it is personal but just curious if your 964 sold for more than you paid for the long hood. Some of the long hoods are just crazy priced. However your 964 was very well sorted with unique color scheme and interior.
@Rennthusiast
@Rennthusiast 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. No problem. I won’t reveal actual numbers out of respect for the 964 user and the 69T seller, but the 964 did sell for more than the 69T cost me. To your point, the 964 is arguably rarer and more original. Just a different animal. That said, I am hearing that long hoods like this one are coming up in value. I have over-insured this one and am just gonna drive the hell out of it. I am not worried about $$$ with this hot rod. I just want to experience it and hope to keep it long term.

I am all about the most comfortable seats as that is what keeps you driving the car longer distances and more often. I have had the old cars and it always came back to my back hurting if I put too many hours in the car. I now have a 993 with comfort driving as the goal. My physical therapist told me that besides getting out and walking some the biggest thing you can do is to adjust seat back position every 45-1hour when you are on a drive.

You have already done the hardest part taking out the motor and removing the intake system. I would put in twin plugs and while your at it you can check the compression to see if it really is 10.5.and check the cams and their timing so you can have a good base line. Good electronics can only go so far. There would much more bang for the buck if the money was spent on twin plugging. Those seats are more uncomfortable than most non recliners in my experience. Period appropriate may be out the window anyway with your wheel choices and the rest of the build so get the seats that you like....

One more thing I like about the fixed back seats is the additional feedback I get from the chassis. The only feedback a car can give you is through the steering wheel, the brake pedal and your butt / back. When you have a fixed back "racing style" seat, your driving experienced is enhanced because the feedback is more direct.

Its the 5,000lb quick jack. I like the ability to move it around easily and store it if necessary. My garage holds four cars comfortably and a permanently mounted lift or even a storage lift would kill that capacity. Way more flexible this way. Its *almost* tall enough to pull an engine, but you have to remove the rear panel on a longhood or the rear bumper on a later car. No big deal though

So in the previous video you said the 69 911T is better than the 964.... I dig your 69 a lot but a better way of saying it is that you like your 69 better than your 964 and theres nothing wrong with that I dig your beautiful blue 69 better than that particular 964 you had too but it doesnt mean its better than a 964... all generations of Porsche are special and beautiful for the time and history they reprsent ... you also said you sold the 964 because it is too nice to drive , hmmm I would have drove the he'll out it. But then your talking about doing all tgos restoring and changes to your new to you 69 doing all this stuff to an already very cool 69 . In the end it sounds like your trying to make your 69 too nice to drive . He'll man I would just enjoy the car for what it is atleast for a while. And I would really take the time to really get to know her and appreciate her . I'd be ripping in the canyons. As far as the wheels go , I like them there alright. Gosh I hope your not putting on Fuch's . Not that I don't like Fuchs it's just EVERYONE ALWAYS PUTS Fuchs on EVERY SINGLE Porsche. He'll just enjoy the car. Making the center tach blue to match the car is good. i like that. The only thing that makes sense really is just Twin plugging the motor and maybe a couple more precautions. But again if it were me that 69 would be on the road not in the garage shredding some back roads. Get to know her first . But since your so determined to change soo much about the car and keep her indoors then you should totally do a LS 1 motor Swap and slap on twin turbos and a 2 stage nitrous system then you could sayvyour a true out law with a true hot rod because they are never satisfied with what they have. And you gotta put a system in it , a wall of 15" subs and neon lights . Then bag it . Then after doing all that sale the car to Swinger so he Chop it up and re sale it for ten million dollars ... oh wait I forgot Swinger only chops up 964's which are rare to begin with then changes them soo much that they loose there personality and end up being something that says Porsche but with out the soul of a Porsche . Atleast with Ruff they don't destroy already rare and low availability Porsches. Honesly man other than just taking some mechanical safety precautions I really dig your blue 69 . I would just drive her enjoy her get to know her then decide on some personal touches

@@LeftCoastErik I am not sure I understand what you mean. I think I do understand the car. I am 911 fan and I own one. I can understand hotrodding - in most cases. But I am also a bit of a purist, I guess. I can understand backdating but not really the opposite. A G does not become a 964 or especially a 993 by changing bumpers. It really comes to the use profile of the car. It is a classic and the future owner will most likely treat it as a classic. I dont think you can make it an R or an ST. Most likely the future owner wants to take it to beautiful roads with a companion. That is why I think it should have reclining seats. You simply do not put the travel packages of two people to the frunk - especially in a Luftgekühlt. He was actually asking whether he should put reclining or fixed back seats and i gave my answer. What is the obligation to tell it so that you dont get the impression that I do not understand this car? I dont think your sentence makes much sense, sorry. He asked an opinion and I told mine. I dont understand what is your role inbetween there? If you are the Erik in the video, he is your client and the car is his, not yours. It is his decision and if you dont like my view, it is really your problem. If you are the the Erik, I think you have lack of respect to your client. And of course, what ever he chooses, it is his decision and in that way it is the correct decision, regardless of my or your opinion.

@@Apexjuha thank you for taking the time to respond in such depth. I was being cheeky but clearly that didn’t come across. This car is a hotrod. It’s been a hotrod for decades. It already has aftermarket seats, steering wheel, wheels and suspension. The brakes and aluminum suspension is from an SC. It has RS carpet, thus no rear seats. It has a later 2.7 punched to 2.8 and fitted with modified MFI. When you say “ you can do that to an S not to a T” you miss the ethos of this car completely. This car will be used as it was built. For thousand-mile mountain runs over several weekends a year. If Will wants to take his wife away for the weekend in an air-cooled car, this isn’t likely the one. Tactile feel, handling and outright power and performance were all design goals of this car, and they have been for long before it landed in my garage. I have a tremendous amount of respect for all of my clients. Will isn’t doing anything he doesn’t want to do, that’s laughable. We have worked together on several other projects and he choose me, like my other clients all over the world, to help guide the designing and modifying the car of their dreams. Every client is different. Every car too. This car has history and already has a well-developed soul. We are optimizing it and letting it loose and it’s going to be an epic, timeless example of a sports purpose 911.
