Lewis - I just want to comment that you did a really nice job interviewing Brene. You didn't cut her off or talk over her. Introverts like time to think about what they want to say before they speak, and you gave her that time instead of rushing her or finishing her sentence with what you thought she might be trying to say.

You couldn't be more right. Even though it's said you should forgive, regardless of whether someone apologizes - thinking about my own father... an apology or accountability for his shortcomings would have changed the entire course of our relationship. We had a moment 4 years or so before he died where he was actually vulnerable, apologized - it felt like a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders and thought - finally, things could be different! Unfortunately old habits die hard and he returned to the comfort of his old ways until he died.

I think this is a good quote but I could see where someone could use this as a way to not grow as a person. The type of people who are crass and say, I just like to keep it real, as a way of explaining why they haven't matured or grown as a person or any not so attractive qualities they have. Like they are saying, this is who I am love it or leave it even when who they are is someone who has stayed the same since high school. I know someone like this and I don't want to be around her. Maybe she hasn't betrayed herself but she hasn't grown or matured in any way. She is true to herself but in a bad way not a good way.

Whenever I start getting negative thoughts, I mentally respond with, “I am worthy, I am enough, and I am loveable.” I do this especially when I am anxious or when I have to do something that takes courage. Sometimes I still get butterflies in my stomach, but it helps me get through my difficult task, and then I often feel empowered or relieved.

I have long maintained that one cannot be brave UNLESS one is afraid first. I recall an interview Barbara Walters did with General Schwarzkopf ("Stormin' Norman" )years ago after Desert Storm. When he spoke of the concern of heading out away from his wife and daughters, he wept openly. Later Walters mentioned how tears and vulnerability seemed the antithesis of his image as a hard core military leader. He candidly and directly responded that it was the men who couldn't weep who worried him the most in battle and life. Profound!!

I think we will always be figuring it all out. Life is filled with ups and downs with all the uncertainty life brings, it also brings such beauty, in all we do, when we look closely. Sometimes, when feeling lost, in need of true connection, I do feel I need a roadmap too, to be certain but this isn't really possible. There is no real blueprint. So, we are all on the same page really and we belong to ourselves. We all all developing, evolving, changing. Who we are today will change in a year, two years. Such food for thought. This interview resonates so much. Thank you Brene. Never try to fit in, always be you. It is the most wonderful gift! Love your interviews and you interview so sensitively Lewis. Not for anyone else but me. I just loved dance so much and I definitely miss it. I know who I am. I don't drink or do drugs so I'm very different then most. Brenè, your wisdom, honesty and absolute realness got me through some big challenges…mostly about belonging to myself and freeing myself from the need of validation from others. I have really done the work, girl it was tough, but wow at almost 57, I’m standing strong, even in those vulnerable moments. I reflect way more than I armour up, and it’s life changing. Thank you beautiful soul sister 🙏🏼

Wow! Love Renee's definition of belonging, and how important it is to belong to ourself. And Lewis's view on being the youngest and being able to stand alone. Being true to ourself is really powerful.

Hi Lewis,Iam lenia,Iam v hungry learner whose life or story isn't like most.some of my learning was via these useful podcast where the public can easily sensor or see a message of love care compassion & being genuine which your podcast includes all of them.A huge amount of my learning was tasting & living a new learning so I was on thousands of journeys in my life as I travelled a lot,I have sadly accumulated more sadness & sorrows than joys in my heart which unfortunately isn't my choosing as am v gregarious caring passionate human being by nature but the life deceipts have broken something deep in my heart something Iam not able to acess (the unconscious side of me so I can't see it therefore iam not able to repair..).thats why I do listen to useful podcasts.your podcasts Lewis represents u.what I regard most in the school of greatness is your openness to everything & anything & ur hunger for learning which I always used to have before..bless the school of greatness!

What I love most about her is the fact that she speaks WITHOUT flailing her hands and arms everywhere like most all speakers (sooooo annoying:-/) Instead? She keeps her body STILL! while speaking, which makes the listener really FOCUS on what she is saying. Great speaker, great author.

I love that "the opposite of fitting in is belonging" we always want to fit in, but do we ever really truly want to belong to anything ?!!? I want to belong and I want to know my belonging, I never really ever was the "fit in" type and this video helped me understand where that has come from inside me for so many many years! Tyvm!!

Basically, you find out who you really are by trying different things. Most importantly is to be mentally strong enough to overcome obstacles along the way which is where most people fail, so I recommend talking to a psychic which is something that has helped me a lot over the years .

Knew who I was then lost the people and life that gave that forum, hung with other people instead and though it was fun on the surface for a good few years, have been lost ever since. The teachers were bang on. Its a very important message, presumably too late for many of us watching it.

Being alone and feeling lonely are two different things. Everyone is alone, we are one of a kind. Feeling lonely and needing to fit to remove the feeling lonely is how we could lose our true self. We could remain who we are and try on many things to see if we choose to make it a part of who we are and never lose who we are in the process.

I've really focused my intentions over the last couple of years to unabashedly speak my truth! I temper this with thinking first and keeping it as kind as possible. But I'm a real straight shooter, who has discovered some 'truths' along my path. People often don't love I have to say, but they do know it's honest and from the heart ❤ How can that be denied?
