3/2/2020 As I’m watching this right at the point where Brene’ is telling of a speaker (with authority in the arena) completely tear down a person without using a name. This happened to me twice in church. One was a pastor had called me into his office (with my 3 year old) to tell me how shitty I am because my heart with GOD is charismatic... Then on Sunday morning he gets up to the pulpit an speaks of a “certain woman” in the congregation blah, blah, blah.... The next was years later and another pastor writes a letter to every member, both near and far, to tear me apart....700 letters. I was at this church because I loved the people and GOD said to be there... I’ve since been basically around the world and visited (and ministered) in many churches and figured out if I’m not welcome, drop their stuff and keep going. I’ve been happy in a recovery ministry where I teach “Who you are in Christ” and am so wonderfully accepted. I’ve been listening to you for a few years and thank you for all you share. I like you bunches!!!

Brene' & Chase. I learned a lesson recently. People ask me advise often on how I reversed some chronic health issues. I use to try telling them what I did and what worked for me. But, immediately saw walls go up around them and felt like I was wasting my breath and being tuned out. Telling people what to do is problematic. If it doesn't work as they expected, they point the blame finger at me. What I found that has a great impact is asking a simple question, "On a scale from 1 to 10, what are YOU willing to do to reverse your health issue..?" This puts the responsibility back on them. If I don't hear an 8 or higher in their answer, I tell them, "I don't think I can help you at this point." If they say, "9 or 10", I say how much time do you need from me. I have too many people that will do what ever it takes. Not everyone completely heals, but a large percentage greatly improve. I don't have the time to listen to someone who only wants to bitch about feeling sick. If they are truly looking for a solution and are at a place of being receptive to healing information, I have all the time in the world. It's tough for someone to face this reality when I would love to save the world. But, as you know, saving the world is not my responsibility. It is the responsibility of everyone to remain receptive to information that may help.

This is where the person needs to engage in some work around Resistance. Many times people genuinely believe they want change, but are unaware of the things that are in the way. With therapy, they can be helped to uncover these areas of resistance and melt them away in order to clear the road for real change. Therefore I don’t abandon people who are “ unwilling“ to change but take a couple of steps back and help them discover what’s in the road.

Doing it for them only makes you an enabler. On a scale of 1-10, what are YOU willing to do to change this..? Real change comes when we learn to do and do to learn. I don't abandon people either, I simply don't push until they make a commitment to do the work.

Rob K I don’t believe I’m disagreeing with you, and didn’t mean to infer that you abandon people. I just mean that there can be reasons why someone is invested in the issue they say they’d like to change, that they aren’t even aware of. So there is an extra piece of work here to help them uncover what this resistance is, if they want to do that work.

What my mama told me since I was a child that if or when you wake up in the night, somebody needs your prayer. She said that, I can simply pray in the name of Jesus for my family, me or anything that comes to my mind. I followed her advice and it never failed me yet.

The bless your heart thing is a perfect example of what Brene talks about. Where she's from it has that negative meaning but where I'm from there seems to be no malicious intent (said to someone who's sweet or struggling with something, it's a very casual thing to say in passing), therefore a Texan might interpret that in a negative way even if the intention of the person who said it was good.

OMFG Chase, I just want to tell you how much I LOVE YOU for saying "Why has it been so damn long for ANYBODY to give us these tools?!" Brene impacted my life so severely that I'm living a life that's a drastic 180 from where I was. I ALWAYS think what you asked. To me this is the true gospel, the teachings of Brene Brown. I have been so healed by this woman's work, she has so much wisdom and guidance that frees me a little bit more everyday. 35:00 is so powerful for me having been abandoned by both my parents by the time I was eight and realizing at age 42 that I will never have the kind of relationships with either parent that I've always dreamed of. I now know that's okay and I know understand that who my parents are and were has nothing to do with me or who I am.

I want to say this because you made that opportunity by saying MC square equals and I want to say that I came across a video of a letter that Albert Einstein wrote his daughter and he explain the true meaning of that this is going to really hit home I believe, and that is love love is the greatest force on the planet actually is the greatest force within us and he knew that at the time that he wrote that equation people wouldn’t understand it or even except it had he explained it thoroughly so I wanted to put that out there for those people who wanna make that connection because it ties into vulnerability and also ties into self-love it’s really beautiful when things come full circle and you have a better understanding of how they truly are as opposed to how you’re told there’s supposed to be
