I agree with you on the flicking motion. I cut hair on my ship, and I’ve only been cutting hair for 6 months. The flick can become a habit, then you have to un-learn to do it. The challenge for me is the different textures of hair people have. There are a few guys that their fades come out solid every time, yet other types of hair is much harder to blend. I’m not discouraged at all though, I love cutting hair, and I’m glad that I get returning customers that understand I’m still a newbie.

Been practicing fades on my kids. Last time I wrote every step down as I completed it by step #, tool, guard, purpose of step. It went so much better and I didn't get lost at all. It actually went a lot faster than I thought it would and by the end it was only like 8 steps. The fade turned out pretty good and showed me that proper lighting was causing a lot of problems, so next time I'll improve the lighting and follow the same process.

I find myself getting lost in the fade as far as going from one guard to another. Just as an example, if I know at the crest I want the fade to be a number 2 at the longest I will cut with a closed number 2 all the way up to the bottom of the crest. And if this cut will be faded down into a bald fade I will do a no guard closed at the neckline to create the initial fade line at the bottom. Then jump up to a closed 0 guard to establish the next line. After I have those 2 lines established I will go back to a no guard and open it to start fading the initial fade line i put in with the closed no guard. Then I just repeat those steps as I go up the head. As a new barber I am not use to eyeing the fade lines when the hair is somewhat close to the same length so I get lost when I bounce from one guard to the other and opening and closing...if that makes sense.

Does that clipper on the head no flick go for detachable clippers as well ?
@joseramirez-cc1mz5 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree, when using taper blades there has to be a slight flick in the wrist to create a fade effect, however when using a flat fade blade its more of a straight up and down motion.
@elcocorote845 жыл бұрын
KZbin Barber Academy I think experience barbers use more flicking because it gives you same result less guards..

Mostafa Saker guidelines
@pedochees5 жыл бұрын
Idk if this will help but I use the curves on the side of the hairline to determine where my guideline is going to be depending on what kind of fade they want. Ex. Low fade I’d make the as high as where the hair grows over the ear (unless it’s naturally higher than the common one then go a little lower and if it’s super low like growing right on the back corner of the ear and head then go up as high as a common hair line behind the ear would start), mid fades I use the corner of the side hairline like where the it starts to arch, and for high fades I start where the arch ends (going from bottom to top) ... idk hope it’s understandable lol

Sometimes with light hair i kinda loose where I’m at..they are people with really light hair that the open clipper looks almost exactly as clipper closed. Any suggestions?

Great video. When you’re at an angle while cutting and leaving the blade on the head, would you be doing that for the whole fade? Or would you only be doing that when you are setting your open taper/ taking out lines with guards?

I honestly just don’t know what guard to start off with ... if someone wants a taper and I’m doing the sides what guard do I use ??
@oliviareynolds73535 жыл бұрын
Depends on how long the hair is and how low/short you want the taper to be. Taper just means shorter. I always start longer since you can always take more off
@waynethebarber10953 жыл бұрын
Do only do fades? I never see you a longer cut...
@carlosmejia-matus45275 жыл бұрын
I'm becoming a barber and love every moment of it but I still gotta learn alot more and practice on my fades, my question is when you start any fade mid or low or high. How high do you go up so it won't look compressed? And do you think the more I practice I get better?
@oliviareynolds73535 жыл бұрын
More practice will always help. Ask your client what THEY mean by low mid or high because they might not have the same definition since they aren't the professional. Ask questions, always start a little lower than what the client wants because they don't know how much room you'll need to blend and that depends on their head shape and hair texture. If theyre blonde with fine hair and they want a mid fade and you start at the temple, by the time you fade the whole cut it's gonna look higher than what they probably wanted. Every cut you do will need to be customized to the individual client. Don't be afraid to ask the client what they like/don't like about their current style to help you decide how to give them the best cut for them
@carlosmejia-matus45275 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for those tips and I will do for my clients and ask the questions you know.
