When I was a Fairy Godmother in Training at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in Disneyland, we used codes all the time to keep the magic and show going. Instead of “break time” we’d say “tea time”, and we said “thank you for the rose petals” to guests instead of thanking them for a tip. My favorite was “I’m looking for the White Rabbit, have you seen him?” which was code to other fairies that we were behind and needed to pick up the pace to stay on schedule.

Hey, Dallin! So the Cast Member codes are correct -- that being said "Treasured Guest" is essentially the _approved_ term for "I need a manager right now or I'm gonna lose my job today," but some of us like to simply say "I have a customer that needs assistance" because you would never call a beloved guest anything but a 'guest' until they've demoted themselves to 'customer.'

Code V is correct for vomit but also code H for let's say... worse human excretions and as a cast member you hear it much more often than you want.... my favorite codes to use are when we get to make up situations to cover up reality, like if for example there's an evacuation for some reason in Star Tours, we get to say Kylo Ren is throwing a fit.

Me, being 19 at the time, had no idea what to do and just called security. I had no idea up until now there was an actual code for it. I still remember it pretty vividly; the security guy came up to me and started interrogating me where the parents were. I was working one of the carts in the walkways between Innoventions at the time, and there was no one else from my area around me. I think I did end up calling my manager, but it was just me handling it with the guard for a few minutes. It was pretty scary. Then out walks the parents from taking one of their older kids to the character spot... Just comes strolling out like, "Oh. I can't just leave my kid here?" Crazy.

The speech at the New Orleans is also heard at the Main St. station. There is a wonderful article in the amateur radio magazine QST about it title "Decoding the Disneyland telegraph" (Oct 2000.) Short version: Technically not "Morse" code. It's actually the code used by the Union Pacific in 1955, which is a little different from Morse code. To answer your question, the loop is about three minutes long. The code is sent slow enough so that the old requirements for "general class" Ham operators can receive (about 13 words per minute.)
@cadetstar3 жыл бұрын
When I worked at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, our codes were pretty ordinary by comparison (mostly using the 10- codes used by other radio schemes). The ones I remember, though, were the 10-99x codes. They meant a different VIP (like the park GM or Mr. Busch) were publicly in the park (as opposed to doing "undercover" work). When I was on the cruise ship, we only had four codes really, not including the n seven short-one long for a general emergency. All these would be repeated 3 times, then the location, then again. Alpha was medical, Bravo was "catastrophe" (fire, oil spill, stuff an onshore fire dept would be in charge of), Charlie was "searching" (either for a child or something more dangerous), and Oscar was Man Overboard. Charlie was an interesting one with two stages: a Stage 1 Charlie was not announced. We had a call tree and the crew would assemble in relative secrecy so as not to alarm guests.

So when I was a CM at WDW from '98-02, we used standard signal and 10 codes mostly. I do remember one day a parking CM mixed up their signals and 10 codes and called a drowning in progress for the Donald lot. They meant to call for a motorist needs assistance. I can't speak for park east, but park west (Ad/Lib and Mountains [what the internal operations department that ran "Frontierland" was called at the time ]) we would often say "clear" to each other at loading platforms (mostly at Jungle) to let the other CM's know that a hot guy/girl was getting on the ride. It sounded like a safety call, but "Dispatch" was the safety call at Jungle. Sound effects and BGM (background music) could also be used as code. When POTC or as we used to call it "Rats" went 101 (which was sometimes several times a day back then) tower had a button that muted the audio for Barker Bird (may he RIP) to let the turnstile CM know to close the queue and contact tower. During an extended 101 we would all be out front doing crowd control, and the tower CM would un mute Barker to let us know to reopen. There are also a lot of hand signals CM's use with each other, mostly for safety reasons, because it is safer than an audio call, especially because some work locations could be quite loud, or you were quite distant from the person you were communicating with. Before cast deployment, when we used to have rotation, we had hand signals to indicate the type of "bump" you were getting, and if anyone was on lunch. The whistles and bells on the railroads are all the same you hear from any train in the US, as they are required by federal regulations. (Two longs a short and a long means road crossing...) FUN FACT when DL Paris was opening, they had some WDW CM's there getting the railroad ready, and they were using the US whistle signals and ticked off the locals, and the local governments almost didn't give Disney permits for fireworks because of it. (Or so I was told when I trained for the WDWRR). Most of the whistle signals the Liberty Bell uses are very similar, but there is also certain distress whistle signals we had because radio signal strength was not the greatest in the back stretch. At resorts (back in the day), all of the comments we placed on a reservation were subpoenable, so we used "GSN" to signify a "Guest Service Nightmare". In court, it could mean "Guest with Special Needs".

This is if a child is standing (or adult), something is on the track, or if we smell or hear something that is abnormal. You learn what is a normal sound and a not normal sound real quick. We also have Code-V which you said already was vomit. We have Code-H for human waste either being pee or poop and yes kids don't always make it to the bathroom and one guest had their ostomy bag break on the ride. We also have a code for blood but I cannot remember it might be Code B tho. We also have treasured guests but we sometimes called them peaches bc none of us liked peaches at my ride. Signal 25 is fire and yes it is scary when that happens. Signal 70 is lost adult (because no child is ever lost bc they can get scared). We have 102s which is a bathroom break. We also have Alphas or alpha units which is the police, ambulance, or fire department from Reedy Creek. Had a kid split their face open while sitting on the fencing in the cue and just was gushing everywhere so we called an Alpha. This is why we tell you to get off the fencing!!!! Then we had a code B or blood whatever to clean the blood in the cue (custodial cleans). God bless Disney custodial honestly! A cue is just the line for the rides. And we all know what being friends with a character means.... Im probs missing some but each ride also has their own key words too. Lots of lingo
@spinningpeanut3 жыл бұрын
i was always a kid who sat on those fences. I lean on them now but when I was smaller I would sit on them not really for fun but for comfort, been walking all day and those parents don't want to ever take a break! Gotta do everything or money was wasted kind of deals. glad I never slipped! looking back now how easy it would be to smash your face on those bars just oof. I worked at IKEA for a bit and kids will climb on EVERYTHING.
@HeyItsMeeTee3 жыл бұрын
@@spinningpeanut Oh yes I totally climbed all over them too and didnt have a second thought about it but now since seeing that kid all covered in blood I just can't anymore! I'll just lean or bend down if i need to
@donaldsizemoreii70293 жыл бұрын
I don't know what being friends with a character means (honest). Does it depend on the character?
@HeyItsMeeTee3 жыл бұрын
@@donaldsizemoreii7029 being friends with a character means that you play that character but since a character like Mickey or Snow White are real people in their own fairytales, then someone cannot also be them because that wouldn't make sense so we say that you are friends with Mickey or friends with Snow White because you cannot be them because they already are real and alive in their own sense. I hope that makes sense. Also no one wants to hear that "Johnny from Ohio" is dressed as Mickey and plays Mickey because Mickey is real. Keeping the magic alive.

I am a former cast member. Code 101 means that an attraction is down, code 102 is when it’s back up. Whenever would say that we are going to the green room, it’s the restroom!
@agisuru3 жыл бұрын
I want to clarify this one. "Green room" is a theatre term that refers to, essentially, a backstage room for actors and theatre staff to hang out in. While, yes, it can mean bathroom, it is technically more of a general-purpose term, though I can't speak to how it's actually used by CMs at Disney.

so when discussing doing something special for a guest we literally just say make some magic or something but at Disneyland, when a ride is broken down, it’s a 101, and I believe fire is 707?? lastly for guests who are ✨problematic✨ a specific location I will not disclose refers to them as being “enchanting” lol shhh

Hello, you asked about the Morse code at the New Orleans Square Station. I would like to recommend the book "Disneyland in Depth" by Mike Fox. It has an article, Decoding the Disneyland Telegraph, It goes into great detail about Walt's opening day speech as done in Morse code. I just finished reading it last night and it is chockful of Disney history. I enjoy your videos immensely.

I concur with your finds. I also tried to crack the code behind the Mickey head in the thumbnail. I'm missing a few pieces but I think I'm really close. "Offhand Disney put a continuous thumbnail and it was sorda hard to crack." Its not quite right but its the best I could get since a lot of the code is behind MIckey's mesmerizing head.
