I'll give you the straight dope, unvarnished, no sugar coating to help the pill go down. It's not about "being ready" for the man. We DO NOT want marriage. We might fall in love. Sure, we're human. We might even live with someone. But, we aren't going to marry. We've done the risk/reward analysis. We've paid CLOSE attention to what has happened to the marriages and men around us when the divorce inevitably happens, and we've elected out. It's that simple. Love has nothing to do with it. It's business, not personal. If you really loved him you'd want to be with him no matter what, without the condition of marriage. But, the marriage is more important to you than the man. For us, the man is more important than the marriage, and we will let that woman walk. Statistically, it was gonna end in divorce anyway. We're just saving ourselves a mountain of bullshit. I've let two women go. One gave the ultimatum after 5 years of living together. The other after three. I was honest from the start about marriage. I loved them both. But, when they gave me the ultimatum there was no debate even for a minute. It was just, okay...this is over, now. My immediate response was, "I love you. I want nothing but for you to be happy. If THAT'S what you need to be happy, then I want that for you, too. But, you need to find it somewhere else." Losing them hurt for a time, of course. But, that's nothing compared to divorce. Men can do break-ups standing on our heads. A few weeks, MAYBE a month or so of "meh" and we're good. Piece of cake. Not taking the ultimatum doesn't mean he didn't love you. It just means he's a realist living in a practical world who made the best business decision for himself. You can absolutely put a price on love. It's marriage and divorce. Two things definitely NOT worth the price for men.

If the two of you have nothing in common, then I really doubt that is going to change any time soon. I mean, if it was, you would have seem something happen in the past 5 years you were together. It sounds like you already know that you and him aren't really going anywhere. I don't know what value waiting an additional year will have except to put on the inevitable and allow you to stay in your comfort zone. It's fine if you want to wait a year, but that's one less year you have to find a guy who is the right fit for you.

1. He doesn't have any future goals/desires. He says he thinks he'll be dead by "then". He's been saying he thinks he'll die by 30 since I met him at 24, and he's 31 now... 2. He doesn't have any interest in what my goals are for the future. 3. He avoids me or is "more upset than me" when I'm upset. I literally lost a job I had for 9 years because he let me sleep in and turned off my alarm, so I was an hour late...and he said it was my fault. 4. Gets jobs easily, but then quits for no reason because he "doesn't feel like going in anymore" and then makes up some excuse about how they mistreated him. He also has the habit of going back to old employers after he quits recent jobs. They take him back because he does work hard, but he quits when he feels he's worked "enough". 5. All of his ex girlfriends cheated on him.............so I'm accused of it almost dailyduring the bad times and monthly during the good times. I often I feel it's an excuse to leave so he can tell people I did something wrong by him when they ask why we separated. I know your audience is mostly serial daters or women who attract commitment-phobes, but speaking from someone who has been married multiple times, there are men who marry and still exemplify all of the traits you mentioned. So yes it's possible to get married and they not be interested in your future, nor building a life together, they can strategically avoid being around during a crisis, they can place your financial stability in jeopardy, all while enjoying the benefits a marriage without commitment. So it's more about the quality of the relationship not just going to the altar.

There are not many incentives for men to marry. They can lose everything: They can lose their children, they can lose their house, they can lose their reputation, and they can lose their freedom for something as simple as a woman's complaint, exaggeration or false accusation. Most men 30 an older know better than to sign a contract with someone who benefits from breaking it.

You can only control yourself no one else. Tell him that this isn’t working out for you and if he wants another girl the door is open but not necessarily open for him to come back in.
