I know your talk today deals with protecting kids from adults. But the same steps and precautions can protect an adult leader from being accused of being inappropriate. Just the accusation can ruin a leaders reputation and their life.

Back in the day, our group of churches had a policy of screening and running background checks on childrens ministry volunteers, but in practice they were desperate for warm bodies to teach the kid programs. Suggestion for a future video: security in small group/house church situations. I think a lot could go wrong having strangers into your home worship event. Jewelry or money goes missing, kid could fall into the swimming pool and drown, etc,.. Love your channel.

Other targets of predators: 1) The elderly, 2) Physically/Mentally challenged people, 3) Teens (female/male) in abusive relationships (e.g. family/school, etc...), & 4) Divorced/Widowed people (male/female). Let's protect our members & Thanks for Your ministry, Mr. Puckett!

I want to add to this. Background checks don't always work. They are good. They should be done. But they often don't turn up any flags. Some of these "signs" - aren't visible. You may not see anything inappropriate. The victims don't change their behaviours. The pervert doesn't show any signs of predatory behaviours. They can be a respected family member, or church member (or both). And it can still happen. How do I know? It happened to some of my family (regular family, extended family, church family). And then when it does "come out" that these things happened... leadership didn't want to listen. And then it goes to court, where lots of money can turn this into a circus. And all that hurts family, hurts the church and causes trust issues. Do what you can, implement policies NOW before it happens. And above all... listen. When someone says something happened, don't ignore it, or feel that they are "just seeking attention".

They prey on vulnerable women as well, such as single moms and women without a strong leader in the family. I went through this, and this person was very manipulative and creepy.

Great information. This concerns me because I'm on the Security Ministry and a Youth Ministry worker. So taking care of the young youths can be very challenging because they disperse between services to go out with their friends or eat out. At the same time I have Security and youth ministry dutes at once. So it's a bit tough at times. Thanks for sharing this.

Additionally look out for people who: - violate/test boundaries, even if it looks harmless at the moment, it's a preparation for worse - behave sexualized in any way, topics they talk about, jokes, behavior, especially around children and what was said in 4:20 and following - They're eager to pay for something (especially food) or do a lot of things extra. 5:28 They're searching for shy/vulnerable children and bad/single/abusive parents, because they know that they can prey on these children the easiest. And yes they are also giving attention and praise to the parents, especially to narcissistic parents, so they'll look the other way when they see them violation boundaries of their child. The parents may even help him to violate boundaries of the children. 9:54 Sometimes they accidentally tell on themselves. If they complain about the reaction of parents, parents ghosting them or otherwise sternly breaking off contact, it's a red flag. - They use pedophile talking points, often cloaked in "science". And for the more active approach you can look for suitable targets yourself and see how others behave around them if they get targeted by someone.

A very sensitive subject to address. Be very careful about making accusations about somebody or "mentioning" something to anyone. It can be harmful and outright sinful gossiping. Our Bible teaches us how to exactly handle situations when you think you've seen your brother or sister doing something wrong. First, talk with them personally, one on one letting them know what you think you saw and explain why that is not appropriate. If it continues; Second, go with a few others and approach the person. Then church discipline. A lot of unnecessary drama can and will be avoided if we just know and obey God's Word, the teachings of the Bible.
