I decided to commit to locs because after almost 5 years of having loose natural hair I could no longer tolerate the maintenance. I also love the look and I am not one to change my hair style each time the wind blows, so yeah...My locs are low maintenance and I love it. This has been one of the best decisions I've ever made for my hair. :)

I am getting locs because I want to challenge myself to become more patient. I realized I needed to go through something that would *politely* make me take care of myself in ways I have not done before. I've wanted locs for about 7 years but I kept putting it off until a week ago lol. So far it is the best decision I could have made for myself, by myself! Thank you for the video!

Great video! One of the reasons why I locked my hair was because I didn't want to keep separating/detangling my natural hair (which sounds ironic but y'know what I mean). I was tired of literally pulling my hair out from trying to detangle after 4 years of being natural. I think these are some good reasons for not locking your hair. I've never been a patient person but I was interested in the process, and the process really does teach you a few things.

Ikes Daughter Hello beautiful! Thank you for sharing and commenting. There are many different ways you can start depending on what your preference is. Firstly, do your research and decide what you type of locs you would like. There are many different types of locs: freeform, sisterlocs, braid locs, traditional locs, etc. Depending on the type of locs you want you can start with comb coils, twist, braids, or an Afro. I started with comb coils. I have a video on my loc process😊. Hopefully this was helpful. Praying for your complete healing in the name of Jesus. ❤ May you have a blessed loc journey 🤗.

This is an awesome video! The loc process is a journey. But I have learned a lot in only 2 months. I'm in the frizzy stage. I initially saw my hair as ugly because it's so frizzy but I am finding that it has locked better. I've stopped using lots of products on my hair and I am so happy with it. My perspective has changed about a lot of things. I really am appreciative of this journey! Great video!

i feel you all the way with commitment, i used to be and still is(its a process) that wants the afro, twa, long hair, and not really loving my locs the way that they are, even my hair texture, but i thank God for progress. I had my first set of locs for a 2-years and a half,and did so much to them. When i was younger, around 16 to 18, my hairstylist told me that i look better with short hair, and that has stuck with me all my life. Even with being a loose natural for years, and having my first set of locs, i wanted long or short locs, and i added extensions to my locs(still do), when its at the middle, weird stage(to me).But i have been freeforming for nine months and is finding a whole new confidence in myself, and i love my texture more than ever.

Facts all facts 💯 I got mine because I struggled with continuous breakage. It seemed that I lost more hair as a loose natural than I do during my loc journey. Women don't realize how much we base our value on what others think until we get locs. I literally had all 5 points you brought out. Being honest with yourself will show you how deep your bondage is when it comes to hating your rawness. I no longer feel those 5 things. I am free now. Its the most refreshing feeling ever. Thanks for this video! I’ve been a loose natural for 5 years now. I really love my hair texture, but I find myself putting crochet locs in pretty regularly, and I really like the way they look on me. I know my locs probably won’t look the same, but I like the idea of (eventually) being able to do my own hair and using minimal product, since I plan on traveling even more frequently than I do now. I hope I’m not being unrealistic.

Interesting points! I used to be one of those people who love to change up their hairstyle all the time- then over time, I got burned out from that as I was not getting anywhere with the health of my hair I also had people tell me I would look great with locs, and I thought "never in my life would i do that" and would not go for it. I also /hated/ my 4c hair texture for how difficult it was to deal with. but then a few months ago, I realized what my hair wanted to be locked all along, and as I learned more about healthy locs, I saw my hair texture as a blessing. I am now 2 months into my loc journey and my hair is finally healthy, growing and i have no regrets. So do what you do. You never know where you will end up down the line : )

Great video! I absolutely agree! I wanted locs for a long time, but was the type of person who loved switching my look. So, I gave myself a year to do research on locs, loc extensions, etc. So glad I educated myself on it all. I decided to get loc extensions only because I have to cover my ears at work (due to the type of piercings I have in my ears and my natural hair coiled would be too short). I LOVE them and don't regret at all! I do not recommend loc extensions for everyone due to some of the cons and for anyone that want instant results.

This is an excellent video! I am having trouble committing to my 2nd set of locs which is why I have been starting them over and over. I realized recently that DIY locs are not for me. I was trying to DIY them bc I was thinking I would have a better connection to them & I based my opinion on other people who did DIY locs. For my birthday ( a late gift) my husband said he would pay for me to go to a professional to have them started. I will be going to my old salon (DeeplyRooted AZ) on June 24 for interlocks. I used to go to that salon last year to have my locs retightened. I refuse to return to the african braid shop, they started my locs with shea butter and wax. I will have a video up soon just taking a little break.

I refuse to relax and I'm not interested in a bald fade. I've always wanted to loc but imagined doing it when I was older. Well, I'll have to move the plan up.

This is an excellent video. Though I ran across too late. It took me a year and some to finally decide that locs are for me. Its funny because it started out as a suggestion from my significant other. I also was the one who never knew what I wanted to do with my hair. Two weeks ago on June 17th my micro braidlocs were born and I am so happy and excited. I am also looking forward to how my hair matures. I just got so fed up with trying to figure what to do with my hair that I just said forget it I am ready for locs. I have watched enough videos that I knew exactly how to install them....plan to put videos up of my journey soon

Really considering getting locks. I've been dying to have them for sometime now but I've also been putting it off. I've been online researching on the pros and cons of having locks, how to manage locks, start locks, thicken locks, style locks and grow them out faster. I'm still interested in locking my hair and I was hoping to do it this summer (June/July), but I'm starting to re-evaluate my reasons for getting locks. I just want to make sure that when I do get them, I'm getting them for the right reasons - or at least the reasons that feel right to me. I originally wanted locks because I'm just tired of always going to the salon and styling my hair and I've experimented quite a bit with my hair and it's beginning to get boring - as well as damaging. I never find myself committing to one hairstyle - not because I necessarily want to switch it up often but because I hate having long hair (i.e extensions like braids) but I thought that was the only way to grow it out. Plus, I also hate the fact that most of these styles (as well as the fact that I do change these styles often) leave my hair brittle - I'm currently trying to save my edges and it's a painfully slow process! I actually love my natural hair; it's a mixed up texture, somewhere between 4b/c. It's relatively soft when it's oiled and really REALLY thick! But right now it's pretty short and still hard to manage (at least for me, it is. I'm not the type of person who likes spending too much time on hair and makeup - I don't use any makeup). I just want a hair style that is always in style and easy to maintain.

I've been thinking about loc'ing my hair mostly for convenience and cost efficiency...at the same time at this point in my life I'm facing a real battle with having confidence in my natural hair. I've only worn it out a number of 3 or 4 times since the year and 5 or more months I've been natural. So I think right now isn't the time for me to get loc's cause I'd want them to "look perfect" immediately

For one your son is adorable😀 And two, I have been thinking about getting micro locs or inter locs for years because my hair seam to be breaking off at the ends and tangled up even after cutting my ends. And finally I really love the small locs and hope that would make my hair stronger.

College student here with mostly 4c super thick hair. Takes me FOREVER to do loose natural hair. Moved to southern california after high school. It's warmer so flat ironing doesn't stay as long at all. It actually stays better than what it did in Illinois, but yeah. Gone within a day. Was over it after 2 years of doing that. Hair puffs up so soon afterwards because I work out so much too so I would have to do it once a week to keep it nice. (3 days a week im at the gym) So then I went natural for 1 1/2 years because: 1. Didnt see point of drying and blow drying if itll puff up again anyways with weather and active lifestyle. 2. Wanted to be more confident with my hair. Was kinda more insecure bc it puffed up more. I'm OVER IT! Even the flat twisiting styles look super rough and unkept after 1 week (even though i part it well and take my time) and im NOT doing a 5 hour process every week of washing, deep conditioning, detangling, and flat twist styling (Flat twist styles lool super cute, so dont get me wrong. I like it better than my flat ironed hair. HOWEVER, I cant stretch it to 2 weeks anymore without washing. I've reached my threshold). I'd rather do a 1 hour process per week with locs, if it even takes that much. Plus, im NOT sacrificing working out to keep my hair longer when it looks loose. It's time to let my hair just loc up. Loose hair is so much maitenance. And it's not working for me. Starting locs this January in 2020. I'm ready and its time for a hairstyle that fits my lifestyle!!

I did my locs yesterday cuz I was becoming a victim to fake hair. I don't have anything against fake hair, the thing is at a certain point in my life I felt ugly without it and I am just 17.

I think I might be good. I only had an afro, twist out and wash n go. I was never a major styler. I'm trying a new thing for this stage of life so here I go. I'm one month in and can't wait for them to mature. I either already have budding or unraveling but it's obvious that it is locing.
@Leana706 жыл бұрын
Been joking about getting them for a long time, but was afraid to commit and afraid to go through the "crazy hair look" but my hair is currently wash and go shrunken afro and I do not do much in the way of wigs, braids, weave, blow dry or anything. So it's pretty much crazy looking anyway. hahah. Years ago, I used to wear two strand twists,with and without extensions. My fave look. I want to go back to that look but do not want to be bothered with extensions and the two strand twists just only last a week before unraveling. . And out of nowhere, the thought today came to me: "i should lock it." I wonder if I am at that point now? I absolutely love my kinky head.
@illmindsfilms20968 жыл бұрын
i have curly hair and its been 13 months and I am in the budding stage. I def would choose locking over lenght. my locks are about 8 inches after a year, but there not locked all they way... I hate it, but the less I think about them the more they became locked and less stress on my hair. so I believe I have like 2-3 more months and ill be in stage 4 mature.

I enjoyed your video and decided to comment and tell you my story. I have been natural for a little over 4 years. I went natural because I was tired of relaxing my hair. I was spending way too much money and my hair never grew. I had to cut off my hair the last time I got a relaxer because it was badly damaged. So anyway... 3 years ago I started a new job, I work outside and wear a hard hat most of the day. My go to hairstlyes are wash and go's and twist outs but I never do it now because of the hard hat thing lol. Most times I wear my hair in a ponytail. I always see styles I like for dreadlocks that I think would look good on me. I always thought about it and put it off hoping I'll get a new position inside but most likely I will be outside at least until the end of the year or longer and now I like it's time. Dread me up please. I love my length and the ponytails are killing me. Thanks again for the video. I will be subscribing to your channel. Hope this wasn't toooooo long.. TTFN...
