I wish self diagnosis wasnt so stigmatized. Ive always compared it too just because a doctor hasnt said a legs broken doesnt mean it isnt broken and im aware of it. Same goes for mental states. Just cuz a doctor hasnt told me i have adhd doesnt mean im not positive i have it. Also theres a surplus of self research tools available. (Not to mention some people cant afford diagnosis)

I have ADHD and all my teachers thought I was stupid. When I scored in the top 90% for the state standardized tests my teacher had a look of shock when he told me my score. It’s really sad that there are so many students getting bad scores and suffering from low self esteem bc they don’t thrive in factory school settings & teachers don’t make the extra effort to help them. So Much untapped potential that these kids don’t even know they have. Our public schools are failing students.
@darrylkinslow5613
@darrylkinslow5613 3 жыл бұрын
You probably were stupid, since the "discoverer" of ADHD said he made it up in order to medicate kids who don't need medications. If you were scoring in the top 90%, it's not possible you have ADHD, people with ADHD supposedly don't have that kind of focus.

Here’s a big difference between ADHD and laziness: If you were lazy you’d be having fun. Often people with ADHD feel guilty for not starting tasks but just… can’t and feel like they actually are lazy. The things many say to ADHD people are the things they may say to themselves.

Oh my god this is exactly what I do every single day. I have a lot of stuff to do for university but I always leave them for a day/couple of days before the deadline and do everything at the last minute in a hurry. I haven't been diagnosed with ADHD or something though, I feel like if I start talking to my mother about this and suggest I may have it (judging by your explanation) she'll probably pretty much just wave it off as me making up stuff that I don't have, etc (when I went from saying that I have a fear of spiders to I have arachnophobia she was like "you're making yourself think stuff like this about you blah blah" and this was YEARS ago and yet it still stuck with me all this time even though my memory is very shit and I rarely remember stuff). I actually don't even know what kind of doctor does these tests and (possibly) diagnoses you.

This isn't ADHD. I do this same thing too when I'm not working out of laziness, and it's something I've been doing since I was 11. A full 10 years. You don't have ADHD, especially if you think that's the reason why.
@M1SSC0RPSE
@M1SSC0RPSE 3 жыл бұрын
@@caluhhhb we know this isn't enough for a solid diagnose, also we aren't doctors. Until a person is tested by a professional you can't know for sure whether he has it or not. I'm just saying that I really relate to what that person has said. Also it's not just avoiding doing work, I avoid most human interactions. I rarely go out (even before the pandemic), I try my best to avoid talking and meeting people, I prefer to be in my room, alone. I don't have high social needs unlike normal people, I could go days without meeting with anyone.

Growing up being called "The laziest, most selfish, inconsiderate kid I've ever met" - quotes by my mother on countless occasions when I was dumbfounded as to how to change has left me feeling so empty as an adult. I was even diagnosed with ADHD when I was about 12 and it was totally brushed off by my parents and swept under the rug. As an adult now I feel so broken, struggling with these symptoms everyday with those words from my mother burned into my subconscious.

For everyone who watches this and comes to the conclusion they DON'T have ADHD: You are not necessarily LAZY! I know the title implies it is either one or the other, but it's not! There are lots of things that can cause you to struggle. There is also, for example, executive function disorder. Or it is perfectly possible, that you don't have a (biological) disorder and are struggling for other reasons. Procrastination and lack of focus is an issue LOTS of people have problems with and it does NOT mean laziness! You are not alone. You are not lazy. But if you want to improve the first step is to try to understand yourself. I recommend the book "Procrastination" by Burka&Yuen

@dermaniac5205 3 жыл бұрын
@@sill.yb0nes Again you create this dichotomy between mental illness and laziness. It's not necessarily one or the other. Lots of social and personality issues can lead to procrastination. For example, if your parents have high expectations you might procrastinate because you are afraid to do your best and still disappoint. Then you prefer to do nothing, because at least then you can tell yourself you could have done it if you tried. Or you are a perfectionist who is always looking for the perfect way to do something, then you despair because you can't find a perfect solution, and then do nothing. There are even people (often women) who are afraid of being stigmatized if they achieve too much, so they slack off. These are just some of many examples that can lead to someone *appearing* lazy. Assuming that they are either sick or lazy just puts those people under more pressure, making the issue worse!

I feel that. When I was younger I always had good grades (something as low as a C was an alien thought until I got to high school and stopped trying as much), and even when my grades dropped I always heard the "smart kid but doesn't apply himself" spiel, from teachers to my parents. Got diagnosed with severe ADHD a year or so ago now, to the surprise of everyone but myself.

I went to a doctor and they told me I'm just stressed. Went to another doctor then they told me I wasn't getting enough sleep. Then I went to a doctor who is outside of my area and I suddenly got diagnosed with ADHD, OCD and autism and got a detailed explanation as to why things are happening the way they are. These type of videos help you see the problem, but not all doctors will help you target it.

Imagine arguing with yourself in the shower, but instead of being consistent and concise on one topic. You're jumping from one issue to another like you're about to address every world problem on a list in 2 minutes just because one problem after another was even remotely relevant to the next. That is what it is like having ADHD. Its not hard getting us focused on something, the hard part is keeping us focused. Think of it as being free spirited by nature and hard to keep bound by rules, plans, etc. We do like having things that keep us busy, but we don't like being necessarily organized with it, even if it helps us. The best way I can describe this type of mentality is by calling it a "freelancer" mindset.

Hey, we are here and we care. At least I do and I'm sure there are others. I am sorry that you are treated like that. No matter if you have ad(h)d or not (undiagnosed or not), nobody should be treated like that. Rarely anybody is actually lazy (because it's against human nature). And if something doesn't work or go the way you hoped than that always has a reason. We don't always know why we just can't seem to do something, but nobody should be shamed for it. It is not your fault. It's not your fault you can't focus. It's not your fault you can't start. It's not your fault you forget things. And it is definitly not your fault that other think they know you better than you do and try to force that on you. I am sorry for your situation. But my advice is to stay close to yourself and close to those who support you for doing so. Good luck and we care!

I feel like not much people really understand me. How they can do everything automatic without proper thinking of it. I have hard times to be "normal" like other people. I was officially diagnosed with ADHD last year, and I’ll never forget my doctor’s exact words when he reviewed my test results. 😂 Doc: “Wow, those are really high scores..” Me: “Woo! High score! Oh wait, that’s a bad thing..” In all seriousness though, I genuinely suffer from all 5 of these, and for years it frustrated me because I couldn’t understand why I was struggling so bad… Once I got diagnosed those issues suddenly became crystal clear. I highly recommend people to be tested for ADHD if they struggle with these sorts of things like I do; there’s no harm in checking, even if the result is that you don’t, and it’ll be one thing to check off the list of possible reasons! And excellent video! Thank you for educating others on the topic and actually giving an invaluable resource to help people who struggle with ADHD understand a bit more of what’s really going on inside their brains! 😄

*As someone who is diagnosed with ADHD, its not entirely a bad thing to have.* *ADHD is heavily overpowered when it comes to survival instincts like detection-and-react based or noticing small details of your surroundings without paying attention like a fuckin' one eye-all seeing. If u can Multi-task, then you'd probably like to rush things through, and keep urself active instead of focusing on one thing. Cause its probably not your thing. Not a good habit, but its pretty damn impressive to pull it off. But not everyone can do that, they'll focus on one thing then completely ignores the rest.*

I feel like I lack an overall “identity” about my interests and the things I like to do and stuff…because it’s always changing. I don’t even know what I like to do. I might be really passionate about something for a couple days, then i have zero interest in it. My feelings about everything are always changing. That’s why I have trouble answering questions about myself or talking about myself, because I’m always doing “micro projects” that I get really into for a short amount of time before I abandon it or forget I was even doing it. Whenever I get asked questions about myself I always have this “woah” moment where I realize I don’t know who the hell i am. I mean I’m in good health, I take care of myself, I have a good job, etc…but I have a lot of trouble talking about myself because I don’t really have any good answers to anything because I’m always all over the place.

oh my god i feel this. I have social anxiety as well so sometimes when a conversation continues for too long on too complex of a subject, or without me being super engaged, or if someone is arguing with me and i feel too overwhelmed, my brain will just forget everything that just happened: what we were talking about, what my defense/argument was, what words are, everything. the worst part is if it's during an argument, I have to start then asking or begging the person to tell me what they mean by the very simple thing they just said, or what we were talking about, and it just makes them angrier because they think i'm trying to play stupid to back out of the argument and they yell at me more when i don't know whats happening and am scared and confused because my brain just decided to check out momentarily. good times 😐

@@cyndrift I relate to this too much. I, too, have social anxiety and sometimes my brain just freezes. The worst thing for me was at school when we were reading a text from a book and the teacher asked a question about it. I was paying attention and sometimes had an answer in my head (but I never raised my hand), but as soon as the teacher randomly called me up and wanted me to answer the question, I completely forgot what I'd just read. So I was looking at the text again, trying to find the answer but then I either struggled to comprehend it and understood just the words and not the sentences or I forgot what the question was. I think the hardest thing about ADHD for me is low confidence. Not that ADHD itself has given me low confidence but feeling different and having to mask my ADHD from an early age has made me really uncomfortable with some of ADHD personality traits. I didn't get diagnosed with my ADHD until I was 17 but I always felt different and struggled with certain things which lead me to feeling weird and defective. Ever since I got diagnosed and medicated I have started to accept myself and my ADHD, I still struggle sometimes but it's a work in progress :)

I'm in a very similar boat, though it's a struggle bringing it up in my case because I've never had any noteworthy external issues pop up. Aside from one mental disaster I dealt with which is easily attributable to my anxiety, I've never showcased any warning flags that I struggle with any mental disorders at all. However, I tend to entirely relate to anyone speaking on how ADHD feels to them, so I definitely suspect having it at this point. I've been so trained to believe bringing it up is just searching for excuses, though, and it's a further struggle that I don't have anything to point to externally that says "I'm having issues with my mental state." I look well-organized, focused and in control pretty regularly, whether with academics or work, but I know I'm not really; I just have enough brute force to keep it going.

Try talking to your school counselor if not a teacher who will listen to you? Our nextdoor neighbor was a school teacher and has dealt with children with ADHD and had to explain that to their parents; they only became convinced when they prescribed the medication that would help, and the difference was phenomenal.

@ranmakuro

It is not easy to get diagnosed, because where I live here are very rare professionals having a plan how to detect ADHD in adults properly, so you often get misdiagnosed for depression or borderline disorder and such. But you never get treated right and that's an issue. I found out ADHD is the gordish knot of all my problems, diagnosis and disabilities. It's the root. You actually can say if you might have ADHD or not and most adults I met are upset about their suspicion. I mean we all are educated to not want to have a kind of sickness. We all do feel ashamed when we might have it. We all are told to not be an attention seeker or tell lies. So we don't. We claim a diagnosis only when there is no other option and we fight it until each doubt has died. Go for it. Have a look on ADHD treatments and find out what's working for you to get along better. There is no failure nor betrayal nor guilt in it. The first step is seeking help. Not in case of an illness, but disability and disfunction.

All this kinda makes sense as to why I am the way I am, I was diagnosed with ADHD so Im not misdiagnosing myself, the distraction from distractions, the hyper focus on something thats less important, leaving things to be done later. I also struggle with organizing and schedules to the point that even doing the alarm suggestion does not work for the Alarms have started to annoy me more then against refocusing me.
